힘 피드백 기반의 세포조작을 위한 세포막 침습력 측정 (Cellular Force Sensing for Force Feedback-Based Biological Cell Injection)

  • In biological cell manipulation, manual thrust or penetration of an injection pipette into an embryo cell is currently performed by a skilled operator, relying on visual feedback information only. Accurately measuring cellular forces is a requirement for minimally invasive cell injections. Moreover, the cellular force sensing is essential in investigating the biophysical properties for cell injury and membrane modeling studies. This paper presents cellular force measurements for the force feedback-based biomanipulation. Cellular force measurement system using piezoelectric polymer sensor is implemented to measure the penetration force of a zebrafish egg cell. First, measurement system setup and calibration are described. Second, the force feedback-based biomanipulation is experimentally carried out. Experimental results show that it successfully supplies real-time cellular force feedback to the operator at tens of uN and thus plays a main role in improving the reliability of biological cell injection tasks.

Ammonia and Hydrogen Sulfide Removal from Swine House Exhaust Air Using a Dip Injection Wet Scrubber

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the odor reduction efficacy of the dip injection wet scrubber (DIWS) using tap water as washing fluid. The $NH_3$ and $H_2S$ removal efficiency of 7 day batch operated DIWS was evaluated twice over a total of 14 days of experiment. The $NH_3$ removal efficiency ranged from 26 to 37%. The $H_2S$ removal efficiency was between 22 and 30%. The pH of the washing fluid maintained below 8 and the $NH_4{^+}$ concentration tended to keep constant around 350 ppm after 5 days of washing-fluid replacement. Therefore, the 5-day washing fluid replacement interval is more preferable than the 7-day interval. The $NH_4{^+}$ concentration and the electrical conductivity (EC) showed a high correlation. The EC measurement can be used as an alternative to conventional $NH_4{^+}$ concentration measurement method for real time monitoring of washing fluid condition.

DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF DISTRIBUTED HARDWARE-IN-THE-LOOP SIMULATOR FOR AUTOMOTIVE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEMS

  • A distributed hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) platform is developed for designing an automotive engine control system. The HILS equipment consists of a widely used PC and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) I/O boards instead of a powerful computing system and custom-made I/O boards. The distributed structure of the HILS system supplements the lack of computing power. These features make the HILS equipment more cost-effective and flexible. The HILS uses an automatic code generation extension, REAL-TIME WORKSHOP$^{ (RTW$^{) of MATLAB$^{ tool-chain and RT-LAB$^{, which enables distributed simulation as well as the detection and generation of digital event between simulation time steps. The mean value engine model, which is used in control design phase, is imported into this HILS. The engine model is supplemented with some I/O subsystems and I/O boards to interface actual input and output signals in real-time. The I/O subsystems are designed to imitate real sensor signals with high fidelity as well as to convert the raw data of the I/O boards to the appropriate forms for proper interfaces. A lot of attention is paid to the generation of a precise crank/ earn signal which has the problem of quantization in a conventional fixed time step simulation. The detection of injection! command signal which occurs between simulation time steps are also successfully compensated. In order to prove the feasibility of the proposed environment, a simple PI controller for an air-to-fuel ratio (AFR) control is used. The proposed HILS environment and I/O systems are shown to be an efficient tool to develop various control functions and to validate the software and hardware of the engine control system.

맥동식 침전지에서 맛·냄새 유발물질 제거 특성 (Removal Property of Taste and Odor Causing Material in Pulsator Clarifier)

  • The removal efficiencies of 2-methylisoborneol (MIB) and geosmin were investigated to reveal removal characteristics of typical organic compounds causing disagreeable taste and odor at the conventional water treatment plant installed with pulsator clarifier patented by the French company $Degr{\acute{e}}mont$. The injection rate of Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC) into water was changed step wisely as we conducted jar tests in the laboratory and water treatment in the actual plant. 2-MIB concentration decreased linearly while geosmin did exponentially along with the injection rate of PAC at our jar tests. The removal efficiency of geosmin by PAC injection was considerably higher than that of 2-MIB. In the real pulsator clarifier, 2-MIB concentration started decreasing as the injection rate reached up to 10 mg/L of PAC. On the other hand, the concentration of geosmin in water decreased proportional to the injection rate of PAC. In the sand filtration, removal efficiencies of 2-MIB and geosmin on July were much higher than those on March. It was carefully suggested beforehand and found afterwards that general microorganisms notably existed in the sand filter with no chlorine in filter influent and backwash water and the sand filter biologically activated removed much more odor compounds. It was considered as the reason why the removal efficiency of 2-MIB and geosmin was increased. The microbial activity maybe increased in summer with water temperature rising and low filtration rate possibly increased contact time between odor compounds and general microorganisms.

Ginsenoside Rg1 Attenuates Neuroinflammation Following Systemic Lipopolysaccharide Treatment in Mice

  • Objectives : Neuroinflammation is characterized by microglial activation and the expression of major inflammatory mediators. The present study investigated the inhibitory effect of ginsenoside Rg1 ($GRg_1$), a principle active ingredient in Panax ginseng, on pro-inflammatory cytokines and microglial activation induced by systemic lipopolysaccharide (LPS) treatment in the mouse brain tissue. Methods : Varying doses of $GRg_1$ was orally administered (10, 20, and 30 mg/kg) 1 h before the LPS injection (3 mg/kg, intraperitoneally). The mRNA expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the brain tissue was measured using the quantitative real-time PCR method at 4 h after the LPS injection, Microglial activation was evaluated using western blotting and immunohistochemistry against ionized calcium binding adaptor molecule 1 (Iba1) in the brain tissue. Cyclooxigenase-2 (COX-2) expressions also observed using western blotting and immunohistochemistry at 4 h after the LPS injection, In addition, double-immunofluorescent labeling of tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$ (TNF-${\alpha}$) and COX-2 with microglia and neurons was processed in the brain tissue. Results : $GRg_1$ (30 mg/kg) significantly attenuated the upregulation of TNF-${\alpha}$, interleukin (IL)-$1{\beta}$ and IL-6 mRNA in the brain tissue at 4 h after LPS injection. Morphological activation and Iba1 protein expression of microglia induced by systemic LPS injection were reduced by the $GRg_1$ (30 mg/kg) treatment. Upregulation of COX-2 protein expression in the brain tissue was also attenuated by the $GRg_1$ (30 mg/kg) treatment. Conclusion : The results suggest that $GRg_1$ is effective in the early stage of neuroinflammation which causes neurodegenerative diseases.

  • 본 논문은 전동기의 저속 영역 운전의 센서리스 기법으로 적합한 고조파 주입 센서리스 제어기법에서 사인파, 삼각파 및 사각파를 주입하여 인가 전압 파형에 따른 센서리스 성능을 비교한다. 본 연구는 영구자석 전동기의 센서리스 기법에 관한 것이다. 1kHz 주파수를 갖는 여러 모양의 파형을 주입하여, 각 파형에 대한 추정된 각도의 오차량을 비교 분석한다. 실험은 HILS(hardware in the loop simulation) 시스템을 이용하였으며, Hardware는 제어보드이며 실시간 시뮬레이터에는 Simulik로 구현된 인버터와 전동기의 모델이 위치한다. 제어 알고리즘은 FPGA 제어보드로 구현하였으며, 이는 10kHz 주파수의 PWM 인터럽트 서비스 루틴, 고조파 주입 및 위치 검출 센서리스 알고리즘 등을 포함한다. HILS 실험을 통해 사인파, 삼각파 및 사각파 고조파 주입시 센서리스 제어 성능을 비교한다.

  • The present study has been conducted to simulate dynamics of a gas engine-driven heat pump (GHP) for design of control algorithm. The dynamics modeling of a GHP was based on conservation laws of mass and energy. For automatic control of refrigerant pressures, actuators such as engine speed, outdoor fans, coolant three-way valves and liquid injection valves were PI or P controlled. The simulation results were found to be realistic enough to apply for control algorithm design. The model can be applied to build a virtual real-time GHP system so that it interfaces with a real controller in purpose of prototyping control algorithm.

  • In this paper, a fuel minimizing closed loop explicit inertial guidance algorithm for the orbit injection of a rocket is developed. In this formulation, the fuel burning rate and magnitude of thrust are assumed constant, and the motion of a rocket is assumed to be subject to the average inverse-square gravity, but with negligible atmospheric effects. The optimum thrust angle for obtaining the given velocity vector in the shortest time with minimizing fuel consumption is first determined, and then the additive thrust angle for targeting the final position vectors is determined by using Pontryagin's Maximum Principle. To establish the real time processing, many algorithms of the onboard guidance software are simplified. Simulations for the explicit guidance algorithm, for the 2nd-stage flight of the N-1 rocket, are carried out. The results show that the guidance algorithm works well in the presence of the maximum .+-.10 % initial velocity and altitude error. The effects of the guidance cycle time is also examined.

  • In this Paper, a fuel minimizing closed loop explicit inertial guidance algorithm for orbit injection of a rocket is developed. The motion of rocket is assumed to be subject to the average inverse-square gravity, but negligible effects from atmosphere.   • 본 논문은 정맥주사 시 발생할 수 있는 불안정 요소들을 보완하기 위해 간호사들에게 환자의 정맥주사 관련 정보를 실시간으로 제공할 수 있는 정맥주사 관리 시스템을 개발하는 것에 관한 논문이다. 정맥주사 관리시스템은 App기반의 사용자 S/W와 Web 기반의 관리자 S/W로 구성되어 있다. 사용자 S/W는 사용자가 스마트 폰, 태블릿 PC, 간호용 PDA 등의 스마트 장치를 통해 정맥주사가 필요한 환자에 대한 환자의 정보확인과 환자에게 부여된 정보 코드를 인식하여 환자를 구분하는 기능, 정맥주사 처치 이후 처치 내용과 처치 물품울 입력하고 이를 업로드 및 공유하는 기능을 제공하도록 구현했다. 관리자 S/W는 사용자 App을 통해 업로드된 정맥주사 처치 결과, 정맥주사 처치 물품에 대한 기록을 확인할 수 있고 사용자 관리 기능, 긴급공지 등록 및 관리 기능, 데이터 업로드 기능을 수행할 수 있다. 구현된 시스템은 아직 실제 병원에서 사용하고 있는 EMR 시스템에 테스트를 진행하지 않은 상태이다. 이에 추가 연구를 통해 S/W를 최적화하고 병원과의 협력을 통해 실제 환경 적용 테스트를 진행할 예정이다.
