This study suggests a modeling of grid-connected wind turbine generation systems and performs simulation according to increase/decrease of real wind speed. Matlab & Simulink implemented modeling of grid-connected wind turbine generation system. Terminal voltage, grid voltage, and active/reactive power shall be observed following the performance of simulation.
With the smart grid coming near, wide-area supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) becomes more and more important. However, traditional SCADA systems are not suitable for the openness and distribution requirements of smart grid. Distributed SCADA services should be openly composable and secure. Event-driven methodology makes service collaborations more real-time and flexible because of the space, time and control decoupling of event producer and consumer, which gives us an appropriate foundation. Our SCADA services are constructed and integrated based on distributed events in this paper. Unfortunately, an event-driven SCADA service does not know who consumes its events, and consumers do not know who produces the events either. In this environment, a SCADA service cannot directly control access because of anonymous and multicast interactions. In this paper, a distributed security framework is proposed to protect not only service operations but also data contents in smart grid environments. Finally, a security implementation scheme is given for SCADA services.
PV system's islanding occurs when the uitilty grid is removed but local sources continue to operate and provide power to local loads. Islanding is one of the serious problems in an electric power system connected with dispersed power sources. Also, this can present safety hazards and the possibility of damage to other electric equipments. If the real and reactive power of RLC load and PV system are closely matched, islanding detection by passive methods becomes difficult. This paper shows the simulation and comparision for the previous active methods and novel islanding detection method using frequency drift is proposed for grid-connected PV system.
In these days, large structures are constructed and bonded with ground grid Because the distances between mesh and auxiliary electrodes are not enough in downtown areas, it is very difficult to measure the ground resistance of large scale grounding electrode systems. Actually the auxiliary electrodes for test are installed in grounding grid. This paper present the experimental results of ground resistance and impedance according to the location of auxiliary electrode. As a result, we get much lower resistances and impedances than real values the auxiliary electrodes are placed in the ground grid. In case that the auxiliary electrodes are located in the ground grid the resistances are very low and reactance only is inductive component.
With increasing interests in renewables, more consumers are installing an energy storage system (ESS) in their backyards, and thus, the ESS will play a critical role in the emerging smart grid. Due to mechanical properties, however its operational dynamics must be well understood before connecting the ESS to the smart grid (and eventually to an IT system). To this end, we investigate charging and discharging processes in detail. This paper, then, proposes methods for four type tests (state of charge test, conversion efficiency test, response time test, and ramp rate test) that can assess the dynamics of the ESS. The proposed methods can capture accurate delay values of mechanical processes in the ESS, and it is expected for those values to help design real-time communication systems in the smart grid involving the ESS.
In smart grid system which uses photovoltaic system, fuel cells and so on, a program implemented with C language is used for control and measurement. When using programs implemented with C language GUI is difficult to watch control and monitor the smart grid system. But LabVIEW is a graphical programming language and it is easy to design GUI screen and to manage many variables such as real-time output of electric power including solar cell, wind power system and fuel cell. This paper suggests LabVIEW and C-language TCP/IP communication for smart grid monitoring system i mplemented with C-language.
The introduction of renewable energy sources into the AC grid can change and weaken the strength of the grid, which will in turn affect the stability and robustness of the doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) wind farm. When integrated with weak grids, the DFIG wind turbine with vector power control often suffers from poor performance and robustness, while the DFIG wind turbine with synchronized control provides better stability. This paper investigates the critical short circuit ratios of DFIG wind turbine with vector power control and synchronized control, to analyze the stability boundary of the DFIG wind turbine. Frequency domain methods based on sensitivity and complementary sensitivity of transfer matrix are used to investigate the stability boundary conditions. The critical capacity of DFIG wind farm with conventional vector power control at a certain point of common coupling (PCC) is obtained and is further increased by employing synchronized control properly. The stability boundary is validated by electromagnetic transient simulation of an offshore wind farm connected to a real regional grid.
In this paper, we introduce a smart city-cyber-security-grid-matrix methodology, as a result of research on overall cyber security of smart cities. The identified cyber security risks that threaten smart cities and smart-city-cyber-security-threat list are presented. The smart-city-cyber-security-requirements necessary to secure the smart city cyber security with the developed smart city-cyber-security-grid-matrix are given in this paper. We show how the developed smart city-cyber-security-grid-matrix methodology can be applied to real world. For it, we interlocked the developed smart city-cyber-security-grid-matrix methodology with the cyber-security-framework of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and developed a framework-based smart city-cyber-security-grid-matrix. Using it, it is easy and comfortable to check the level of cyber security of the target smart ciy at a glace, and the construction and operation of the smart city security system is systematized.
Korea and Japan have done a lot of research on composite girders with corrugated steel webs and built many bridges with corrugated steel webs due to the significant advantages of this type of bridges. Considering the demanding on the calculation method of such types of bridges and lack of relevant reinforcement design method, this paper proposes the spatial grid analysis theory and tensile stress region method. First, the accuracy and applicability of spatial grid model in analyzing composite girders with corrugated steel webs was validated by the comparison with models using shell and solid elements. Then, in a real engineering practice, the reinforcement designs from tensile stress region method based on spatial grid model, design empirical method and specification method are compared. The results show that the tensile stress region reinforcement design method can realize the inplane and out-of-plane reinforcement design in the top and bottom slabs in bridges with corrugated steel webs. The economy and precision of reinforcement design using the tensile stress region method is emphasized. Therefore, the tensile stress region reinforcement design method based on the spatial grid model can provide a new direction for the refined design of composite box girder with corrugated steel webs.
