  • High temperature superconducting(HTS) power cable is expected to be used for power transmission lines supplying electric power for densely populated cities in the near future. Since HTS power cable is capable of the high current density delivery with low power loss, the cable size can be compact comparing with the conventional cable whose capacity is same. In this paper, the authors propose the real time simulation method which puts a teal HTS wire into the simulated 22.9 kV utility grid system using Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS). For the simulation analysis, test sample of HTS wire was actually manufactured. And the transient phenomenon of the HTS wire was analyzed in the simulated utility power grid. This simulation method is the world first trial in order to obtain much better data for installation of HTS power device into utility network.

  • KEPRI successfully developed and installed RTDS(Real-Time Digital Simulator) during March 2001. The simulator will be used to study interactive simulation of electromagnetic & electromechanical and validation of protective & control systems. In this paper. the authors will present an overview of real-time digital simulator and its characteristic features. Special emphasis will be placed to the installation test results. This paper also addresses some key issues on the accuracy, reliability flexibility and its practical uses for real-time power simulation.

  • The steady state performance test for the digital protective relay using general relay test equipment has been main test methods. Because of the development of advanced power system testing equipments, dynamic performance test has been carried out additionally using a digital simulator such as RTDS(Real Time Digital Simulator). For the case of newly adopted digital protective relay with IEC 61850 and network, performance testing items need supplementing. This report displays testing items change according to newly protective relay.

  • Recently, the Korea Enhanced Power system Simulator (KEPS) was upgraded with new processor cards and various peripheral devices. The purpose of the upgrade is for the large-scale AC/DC simulation studies for different purposes such as FACTS, PMU applications, and SPS. The need for such study is now growing in KEPCO network. Frequently, traditional ways of performing the necessary study had been found to be less adequate for guiding the key decisions in the company. Therefore, the growing needs, as well as the revealed inadequacy of the traditional system studies, had been attributing to the momentum for the upgrade project. This paper explains the details of the upgrade project. As an example of presenting the effectiveness of the upgraded RTDS system in KEPRI-KEPCO, a large-scale AC/DC real time simulation case which includes the entire Korean network and a planned MMC-HVDC system is introduced.

  • This paper proposes a novel simulation method of grid connected 3MW wind power generation system using RTDS(Real Time Digital Simulator). RTDS can perform the simulation as well as the experiment in real time. Also for the purpose of accurate simulation, real wind velocity is measured by anemometer. So measured wind velocity is applied to the simulation. And 3MW wind power generation system circuit is made by RSCAD.

  • A PV system inverter test module using RTDS was developed and performance test of a commercial PV inverter was carried out. The developed module consists of one RTDS hardware rack, RTDS software models representing PV array and simple distribution system, and two power amplifiers that was specifically designed for generating power corresponding to signals from RTDS. Performance test results verified effectiveness and reliability of the test module. It is expected that the developed test module may help PV inverter manufacturers improve ana test their systems in the developing stage.

  • This paper presents a study of DFIG wind power generation system for real-time simulation. For real-time simulation, the real-time digital simulator (RTDS) and its user friendly interface simulation software (RSCAD) are used. 2.2MW grid-connected variable speed DFIG wind power generation system is modeled and analyzed in this study. Stator-flux oriented vector control scheme is applied to stator, rotor side converter control, and back-to-back PWM converters are implemented for the decoupled control. The real-wind speed signal extracted by an anemometer is used for realistic and accurate simulation analysis. Block diagrams for DFIG and control scheme of stator, rotor-side are introduced. Real-time simulation cases are carried out and analyzed for the validity of this work.

  • 2010년부터 민간기업인 LS산전과 한국전력공사의 공동 개발을 통하여 60MW급 ${\pm}80kV$ HVDC (High Voltage DC transmission System)전류형 HVDC시스템 알고리즘 국산화 개발을 진행하여 2012년 3월 개발을 완료하였다. 개발된 알고리즘의 성능, 안정성 및 신뢰성을 확보하기 위하여 LS산전에서 개발한 Hardware 플랫폼에 제어 알고리즘을 탑재하고 RTDS(Real Time Digital Simulator)를 통한 연계시험을 진행하여 이를 검증하였다. 본 논문에서는 개발된 HVDC 제어 알고리즘의 기능과 RTDS연계 시험결과를 소개하고자 한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 실시간 시뮬레이터인 RTDS(Real Time Digital Simulator)에서 실제 보호 계전기와 동시에 사용되거나 실제 보호 계전기 없이 보호 시스템의 응동을 고려한 전력개통 모의가 가능하도록 보호 계전요소들을 모델링하고 활용하는 방안에 대하여 소개하고자 한다.

  • Recently, the smart grid has become a hot issue and interest in related power sources have increased accordingly. The implementation of a smart grid can enable many generation resources to be linked to the power system, including small-scale reactors for the purpose of co-generation. Research on small-scale reactors is being carried out all over the world. Similarly, Korea is also conducting research on multi-purpose regional energy systems using nuclear energy. This paper proposes a real-time data acquisition and analysis system for small-scale reactors, and is known as the REX-10 (Regional Energy rX 10 MVA). This analysis requires real-time simulations for the power system since it needs data communication with a remote REX-10. A RTDS (Real Time Digital Simulator) has been used for the simulation, and a SCADA/HMI system interfaced with the RTDS is proposed for the purpose of monitoring and control of the regional energy system.
