A Compensator for Lateral Current Reduction Applied to Autonomously Controlled UPSs Connected in Parallel

  • This paper presents a compensator for reduction of the reactive lateral current in multiple autonomously controlled uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) connected in parallel. This compensator acts directly on the control equation for voltage amplitude and it provides an improved current distribution especially in the case of parallel connection of UPSs with different output power ratings. Observations show that the original control equation for output voltage amplitude is efficient for voltage regulation but it causes great variation of voltage levels. A compensator with the same structure is added to counterbalance the variation caused by the original control equation. Simulations show promising results with the employment of the proposed compensator. Our simulations are confirmed by experimental results using three UPSs with different output ratings and voltage limiters ($1\%$) connected in parallel under various conditions.

전향보상 전압의 위상 변화를 통한 단독운전 검출 방법의 계통 정상 상태의 성능 평가 (Performance Evaluation of Islanding Detection Method by Phase Shifted Feed-Forward Voltage in Steady-State Grid Condition)

  • This study proposes a new islanding detection method that uses the phase shift of feed-forward voltage and evaluates the performance of an existing method and the proposed method when the grid frequency changes within the allowable range under steady-state conditions. The investigated existing method, which is slip mode frequency shift (SMS), uses current phase shift to detect islanding. The SMS method supplies reactive current to the grid under this condition, but the proposed method does not generate additional reactive power because it does not depend on the current control loop. The performance in steady-state grid condition is evaluated through simulations and experiments.

  • 계통연계형 분산전원 시스템의 제어 기술 중에 전기적 안전성을 확보하기 위해 계통의 이상을 검출하여 분산전원을 분리 시켜야 하며 PCS의 이러한 기능을 단독운전 방지라고 불린다. 수동적인 기법으로는 단독운전시에 전력생산량과 부하 요구량이 일치할 경우 연계점의 전압 및 주파수 특성이 변하지 않으므로 검출하지 못하게 되는 상황이 발생하나, 능동 방식 중 현재 널리 사용되고 있는 AFD와 RPV 방식에서는 인버터 전류제어를 통해 미소한 왜곡을 주입하여 전력평형상태에서도 단독운전시에 연계점 전압의 주파수를 변동시켜 단독운전검출이 가능하다. 이 두 방식은 기준신호에 주입하는 왜곡형태가 서로 다르지만 이로 인해서 무효 전력성분이 발생한다는 측면에서는 두 방식이 같다고 볼 수 있으며, 무효전력 성분의 비율을 같도록 설계하면 같은 양의 주파수 변동이 생긴다. IEEE 929-2000 조건하에서 해석 및 실험을 통하여 제안된 해석방식 및 설계법의 타당성 그리고 두 방식의 연관성 등을 검증하였으며, 계통연계시 신뢰도 측면에서 어느 방식이 더 우수한지를 밝혀 향후 단독운전방지를 위한 적합한 방식을 제시하도록 하였다.

정수장 마이크로 소수력 발전기 적용에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Application of Micro Hydro Power Generator at the Water Treatment Plant)

  • Inflow or outflow from the water treatment plant and the sewage water has potential energy. If this potential energy can be converted into electrical energy by water turbine generator, it can help to save energy because of the high capacity utilization. So recently, micro hydro power plant is reviewed in the water treatment facility. If generation capacity is low, induction generator is primarily used. If output capacity is low, generated power is supplied to the inside load. Induction generator can cause voltage drop by the inrush current at a start-up and requires reactive power for magnetization. In this study, we analyzed the flow of power and voltage variation against inrush current that occurs when the induction generator starts under the terms that loads of linear and non-linear of the water purification plant are used. Analysis results are that the voltage drop is within an allowable range and the power factor is slightly reduced by the need of reactive power.

  • 풍력발전기가 계통에 연계되어 유효전력이 출력되면 PCC의 전압이 변동하며, 이러한 전압변동은 풍력발전기 출력에 비례한다. 전압변동의 발생요인은 전원에서 PCC지점까지의 선로 등가 임피던스의 크기와 풍력발전기 출력 전류의 곱의 형태로 표현 된다. 이러한 전압변동은 무효전력의 공급으로 억제할 수 있으며 필요로 하는 무효전력량은 풍력발전기 출력량에 비례한다. 이를 검증하는 방안으로 삽시도의 계통을 바탕으로 PSCAD/EMTDC 시뮬레이션과 실측데이터를 활용하였다.

  • This paper proposes the coordinated control of SVC and UTLC at the distribution substation to get larger operating margin of SVC for the voltage stability control by reactive power compensation. In the conventional method, ULTC doesn't respond to the variation of source voltage, so SVC has the entire responsibility for it. It could cause the lack of operating margin of SVC in some condition. It, however, is important to secure an operating margin for the dynamic stability control in emergancy. This paper proposes the coordinated control method that SVC controls the supply voltage and ULTC respond to the SVC compensation valve based on the relation between SVC compensation and ULTC tap position. The numerical simulation verifies that the proposed system could increase the operating margin of SVC compared with the conventional system.

Simulink에서 계통연계 풍력발전시스템의 전압변동 시뮬레이션 (Simulation for Voltage Variations of a Grid-connected Wind Turbine Generation System by Simulink)

  • This paper presents a modeling and simulation of a grid-connected wind turbine generation system with respect to wind variations, starting of large induction motor and three-phase fault in the system, and investigates voltage variations of the system for disturbances. It describes the modeling of the wind turbine system including the drive train model, induction generator model, and grid-interface model on MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results show the variation of the generator torque, the generator rotor speed, the pitch angle, terminal voltage, system voltage, fault current, and real/reactive power output, etc. Case studies demonstrate that the pitch angle control is carried out to achieve maximum power extraction for wind speed variations, starting of a large induction motor causes a voltage sag due to a large starting current, and a fault on the system influences on the output of the wind turbine generator.

  • Utilization of renewable energy is becoming increaingly important from the viewpoints of environmental protection and conservation of fossil fuel. However, the generating power of renewable energy is always fluctuating due to the environmental status. This paper presents a scheme for supervisory control of wind generation system with the energy storage and STATCOM to reduce the power variation. In this paper, we especially concentrate on constant power output control of wind generation system. In order to achieve this purpose, the coordinated control strategy between different types of energy storage system and reactive power compensation device. The proposed control scheme has been validated by PSCAD/EMTDC simulation. As a result, the proposed scheme can handle the power output of wind generation system with a constant value.

  • Wind power plant is based on the wind energy so the active power is frequently changed and connected to grid according with wind condition. These characteristics are bed effect to distribution line. On this reserch, we want to analyze the quality of electric power synchro/asynchronous generation system in Dae Kwan Ryung wind farm. The contents of analysis are active/reactive power variation and total demand distortion and transiency and sag/swell phenomena. we hope this research can contribute to the power quality improvement.

  • 본 논문에서는 전력품질개선기능을 갖는 계통연계형 태양광 발전시스템을 제안한다. 제안된 시스템은 전류제어형 전압원인버터 하나만을 사용하여 단위역률, 고조파저감 그리고 무효전력보상을 동시에 수행한다. 제안된 시스템의 동작모드는 2개의 모드로 구분할 수 있다. 야간모드에서는 PQC를 통해 부하에서 발생하는 무효전력을 보상한다. 주간모드에서는 고조파 저감 및 역률개선을 위한 PQC를 수행하면서 동시에 태양광의 최대전력을 발전하는 MPPT를 수행한다. 본 연구에서 제안한 시스템의 유용성을 확인하기 위해 시뮬레이션과 실험을 수행하였다.
