Tribological behaviors of nitrogen incorporated amorphous diamond-like carbon films were experimentally measured under a vacuum ($3 \times 10^{-5}$ Torr) using a ball (AISI 52100 steel)-on-disk wear-rig. Nitrogen incorporated DLC films were deposited by r.f. plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition method. Mixtures of benzene and ammonia or nitrogen gases were used as the reaction gases for the r.f. PACVD, and Si (100) wafer was used as the substrate. In the tribo-test, effects of DLC film thickness and normal load in friction were measured and discussed. Results showed that friction of nitrogen incorporated DLC films from a mixture gas of benzene and ammonia was lower than that of 100% benzene, specially in the measurement of minimum coefficient of friction. Differences in frictional characteristics of nitrogen incorporated DLC films were explained with the changes in chemical structures of the films. Result also showed that friction of DLC films increased with the sliding contact cycle, which remarkably accompanied with roll-shaped wear debris. Mechanisms and roles of the polymer-like wear debris were presented and discussed.

This research investigates the stability analysis for the rotating and the stationary grooved journal bearing. The dynamic coefficients of the journal bearing are calculated by using FEM and the perturbation method. When journal bearing is in whirling motion, the dynamic coefficients have time-varying components as a sine wave due to the reaction force of oil film toward the center of journal even in the steady state. The solutions for the equations of motion can be assumed as the Fourier series expansion. The equations of motion can be rewritten as the linear algebraic equations with respect to the Fourier coefficients. Then, stability of the grooved journal bearing can be calculated by Hill's infinite determinant. The periodic function of dynamic coefficients is derived using Fourier Fast Transform(FFT).The stability of journal bearing is determined as rotating speed increases and the stability of rotating grooved journal bearing is compared and discussed with the stability of stationary grooved journal bearing.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the photosensitizer photogem with light-emitting diode (LED) on vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE). Two VRE strains isolated from the feces of patients. that was identificated Enterococcus faecium (vanA) and Enterococcus gallinarum (vanC1) using traditional biochemical tests and confirmed VRE genotyping from using polymerase chain reaction. In addition, three strains were used Enterococcus. faecalis CDC-286 (vanA), E. faecalis CDC-583 (vanB) and E. gallinarum CDC-42 (vanC1). To examine the antimicrobial effect of photogem mediated photodynamic therapy (PDT) against, CFU quantification and Disk diffusion antimicrobial susceptibility test were evaluated. The effects of Photodynamic therapy was not associated with genotype. Photogem mediated PDT perfectly inhibited the colony formation of E. faecalis CDC-286. The number of viable bacteria decreased greatly after PDT application with photogem $50{\mu}g/mL$ and energy density of $15J/cm^2$. The diameter of inhibition zone was increased to after PDT more than before PDT. The case of vancomycin disc on E. faecalis CDC-583 and E. galinanum-Patient were changed from resistant to intermediate resistant, from intermediate resistant to susceptable. These results demonstrate that lethal photosensitization of VRE can be achieved using photogem plus 630 nm LED irradiation.
Recently, fluid dynamic bearings (EDBs) have important applications in miniature rotating machines such as those found in the computer information storage industry, due to their outstanding low acoustic noise and NRRO (Non-Repeatable Run Out) characteristics. This research investigates the dynamic behavior of fluid dynamic bearings composed of hydrodynamic herringbone groove journal and spiral groove thrust bearing. The five degrees of freedom of FDB are considered to describe the real motion of a general rotor bearing system. The Reynolds equation and five nonlinear equations of motion for the dynamic behavior are solved simultaneously, The incompressible Reynolds equation is solved by using the finite element method (FEM) in order to calculate the pressure distribution in a fluid film and the five equations of motion by using the Runge-Kutta method. The reaction forces and moments are obtained by integrating the pressure along the fluid film. Numerical results are validated by comparing with the previously published experimental and numerical results. As a result the dynamic behavior of FDB spindle such as orbit, floating height, and angular orbit is investigated by considering the conical motion under the static and dynamic load conditions.
Actinobacillus (A.) pleuropneumoniae is the causative agent of pleuropneumonia which is one of the most important respiratory diseases in pigs worldwide. A total of 32 A. pleuropneumoniae isolates from diseased pigs during 2008 to 2010 were serotyped by polymerase chain reaction method. The susceptibility of the isolates to 13 antimicrobial agents were determined by disk diffusion test. In all the 32 isolates examined in this study, serotype 5 (16 isolates: 50%), 1 (7 isolates: 21.9%), 2 (5 isolates: 15.6%) and 12 (1 isolate: 3.1%) were found. Of all tested antimicrobial agents, resistance to oxytetracycline was found in 96.9% of isolates, followed by resistance to amikacin (81.2%), neomycin (68.7%), kanamycin (53.1%), penicillin (50.0%), gentamicin (43.7%), florfenicol (25.0%), ampicillin (18.7%), colistin (9.4%), trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, ceftiofur (8.3%), amoxicillin/clavulanic acid (3.1%) and enrofloxacin (0%). Oxytetracycline or florfenicol-resistant isolates were examined for the presence of resistance gene. Among the 31 oxytetracycline-resistant isolates, tetB, tetH and tetO genes were detected in 22 (71%), 8 (26%) and 1 (3%) isolates, respectively. The floR genes were detected in 8 (100%) of the 8 florfenicol-resistant A. pleuropneumoniae isolates.
We present the modeling results of deuterium fractionation of water ice, $H_2$, and the primary deuterium isotopologues of $H3^+$ in the physical conditions associated with the star and planet formation process. We calculated the deuterium chemistry for a range of gas temperatures (Tgas~10-30 K) and ortho/para ratio (opr ) of $H_2$ based on state-to-state reaction rates and explore the resulting fractionation including the formation of a water ice mantle coating grain surfaces. We find that the deuterium fractionation exhibits the expected temperature dependence of large enrichments at low gas temperature, but only for opr-H2<0.01. More significantly the inclusion of water ice formation leads to large D/H ratios in water ice (${\geq}10^{-2}$ at 10 K) but also alters the overall deuterium chemistry. For T<20 K the implantation of deuterium into ices lowers the overall abundance of HD which reduces the efficiency of deuterium fractionation at high density. Under these conditions HD will not be the primary deuterium reservoir in the cold dense interstellar medium and $H3^+$ will be the main charge carrier in the dense centers of pre-stellar cores and the protoplanetary disk midplane.

Steam reforming of methane using Xe-arc solar simulator was studied for the application of concentrated solar energy into chemical reaction. The reactor, a volumetric absorber, consisted of a porous ceramic foam disk coated with commercial reforming catalyst. Operating temperature was in the range of $450\;-\;550^{\circ}C$ and the excess steam ratio to methane was from 3.0 to 5.0. At the steady-state condition, the conversion of methane Increased with temperature in the range of 15 % - 30 % and the experimentally determined conversion was found to be close to theoretical equilibrium conversion. It was also found that the CO selectivity slightly decreased with excess steam ratio. Finally, the conversion of methane decreased significantly with space velocity of reactants.

This paper proposes an attitude and direction control of a single wheel balanced robot. A unicycle robot is controlled by two independent control laws: the mobile inverted pendulum control method for pitch axis and the reaction wheel pendulum control method for roll axis. It is assumed that both roll dynamics and pitch dynamics are decoupled. Therefore the roll and pitch dynamics are obtained independently considering the interaction as disturbances to each other. Each control law is implemented by a controller separately. The unicycle robot has two DC motors to drive the disk for roll and to drive the wheel for pitch. Since there is no force to change the yaw direction, the present paper proposes a method for changing the yaw direction. The angle data are obtained by a fusion of a gyro sensor and an accelerometer. Experimental results show the performance of the controller and verify the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm.
The production of extended-spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamases ($ESBL_S$) of the TEM or SHV type by bacterial pathogens is a major threat to the use of the clinically important expanded-spectrum cephalosporins. The characterization of the SHV ESBLs producing Klebsiella pneumoniae strains present in clinical isolates is time-consuming processes. We describe here in the development of a novel system, which consists of a real time PCR. We found 11 K. pneumoniae strains to be presumptive strains ESBLs producers by clinical and laboratory standards institute (CLSI) guidelines. The double disk synergy test showed 8 ESBL positive and conventional PCR showed 10 SHV ESBL positive, which were K. pneumoniae strains isolates. By real time PCR analysis, SHV gene in 11 of 11 strains were identified. When sequencing analysis was compared with real time PCR, both analysis were presented 99% similarity. In this study, we used a rapid, sensitive, and specific real-time PCR (RT-PCR) method for detection of the assay SHV ESBL producing K. pneumoniae strains in clinical isolates.

In this study, the effect of mechanical polishing of carbon steel on the tribological properties of manganese phosphate coating on carbon steel has investigated. The microstructure, surface morphology and chemical composition were analyzed by SEM, EDS, and XRD. The surface roughness test was carried out in order to calculate Rvk value by 3D laser microscopy. Also, the tribology property of manganese phosphate coating was tested by ball-on disk. In the results of EDS analysis, coating layer consists of elements such in Mn, P, Fe, and O. XRD showed that (Mn,Fe)5H2(PO4)4·4H2O in manganese phosphate coating layer was formed by the chemical reaction between manganese phosphate and elements in carbon steel. As the mechanical polishing degree increased, the friction coefficient was reduced. The rougher the mechanical polishing degree, the better corrosion resistance was obtained.
