In this paper the upwind flux difference splitting Navier-Stokes method has been applied to study quasi one-dimensional nozzle flow and axisymmetric sphere-cone($5^{\circ}$) flow for the perfect gas, the equilibrium and the nonequilibrium chemically reacting hypersonic flow. The effective gamma(${ \tilde{\gamma}}$), enthalpy to internal energy ratio was used to couple chemistry with the fluid mechanics for equilibrium chemically reacting air. The influences of the various altitude(30km, 50km) at Mach number(15.0, 20.0) were investigated. The equilibrium shock position was located farthest downstream when compared with those of perfect gas in a quasi one-dimensional nozzle. The equilibrium shock thickness over the blunt body region was much thinner than that of perfect gas shock.
Large eddy simulation{LES) methodology used to model a bluff-body stabilized non-reacting flow. The LES solver was implemented on parallel computer consisting 16 processors. To verify the capability of LES code, the results was compared with that of Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) using $k-{\epsilon}$ model as well as experimental data. The results showed that the LES and RANS qualitatively well predicted the experimental results, such as mean axial, radial velocities and turbulent kinetic energy. However, in the quantitative analysis, the LES showed a better prediction performance than RANS. Specially, the LES well described characteristics of the recirculation zones, such as air stagnation point and jet stagnation point. Finally, the unsteady phenomena on the Bluff-body, such as the transition of recirculation region and vorticity, was examined with LES methodology.
Diazotized chitin (CHITN) was synthesized reacting with NaN3 and HCl to alkaline hydrolyzed chitin for the support of immobilized enzyme. Immobilized $\beta$-glucosidase on diazotized chitin(CHITN-Gase) was produced reacting with glutaraldehyds as bifunctional reagent. CHITN-Gase activities were determined reacting with p-nitrophenol-$\beta$-D-glucopyranoside in plug flow reactor as a reference. Optimum temperature, optimum pH, reaction constant and deactivation rate were determined with variation of flow rate and H/D. The particle size of immobilized enzyme in the best was, 35 mesh (CHITN35-Gase). The optimum conditions of immobilized enzyme were $70^{\circ}C$ in temperature and 5.0 in pH. Diameter and flow rate of plug flow reactor in the best was 8.5mm in diameter and 0.8ml/min in flow rate. Reaction constant was mainly influenced by electrostatic force. The best glucose hydrolizing activities of CHITN3 5-Gase was 3.34$\times$10-5 M/1. while that of native-$\beta$-glucosidase was 2.44$\times$10-5 M/1.

This work shows the result of numerical simulation on a reacting flow by varying atomization properties which can be obtained from a injector for a small and low power aircraft gas turbine engine. Because the atomization properties mainly affect on the performance of the engine, a lot of efficiency tests are needed when a new injector is developed. Nowadays researches has been actively performed using computational analysis. Using commercial package CFD-ACE+, basic studies on the reacting flow field have been conducted. Those results show that the reaction rate is increased when higher pressure and wider angle spray condition are used. More smaller parcels can also enhance the fuel-air reaction.

A comprehensive numerical analysis has been carried out for both non-reacting and reacting flows in a scramjet engine combustor with and without a cavity. The theoretical formulation treats the complete conservation equations of chemically reacting flows with finite-rate chemistry of hydrogen-air. Turbulence closure is achieved by means of a k-$\omega$ two-equation model. The governing equations are discretized using a MUSCL-type TVD scheme, and temporally integrated by a second-order accurate implicit scheme. Transverse injection of hydrogen is considered over a broad range of injection pressure. The corresponding equivalence ratio of the overall fuel/air mixture ranges from 0.167 to 0.50. The work features detailed resolution of the flow and flame dynamics in the combustor, which was not typically available in most of the previous studies. In particular, the oscillatory flow characteristics are captured at a scale sufficient to identify the .underlying physical mechanisms. Much of the flow unsteadiness is related not only to the cavity, but also to the intrinsic unsteadiness in the flow-field. The interactions between the unsteady flow and flame evolution may cause a large excursion of flow oscillation. The roles of the cavity, injection pressure, and heat release in determining the flow dynamics are examined systematically.

We present an innovative method of multi physics application involving energetic materials. Energetic materials are related to reacting flows in extreme environments such as fires and explosions. They typically involve high pressure, high temperature, strong shock waves and high strain rate deformation of metals. We use an Eulerian methodology to address these problems. Our approach is naturally free from large deformation of materials that make it suitable for high strain rate multi-material interacting problems. Furthermore we eliminate the possible interface smearing by using the level sets. We heave devised a new level set based tracking framework that can elegantly handle large gradients typically found in reacting gases and metals. We show several work-in-progress application of our integrated framework.
In this study, we investigate the non-reacting and reacting performance of single nozzle for post H class gas turbine by using commercial CFD tool, CONVERGE, based on adaptive mesh refinement. By varying swirl number and mixing length of base nozzle design. Through the numerical analysis, basic phenomena can be well described with respect to fuel concentration for non-reacting flow, temperature distribution, velocity vector and combustion outlet temperature distribution for reacting flow. However, there are rooms for improvements in model accuracy by comparing test results. Comparison between numerical analysis are planning for further study.
The linear instability of reacting shear flow is analyzed with special emphasis on the effects of the heat release and variable transport properties. Both analytic profiles and laminar solutions of the boundary-layer equations are used as base flows. The growth rates of the instabilities are sensitive to the laminar profiles, differing by more than a factor of 2 according to which profile is used. Thus, it is important to base the analysis on accurate laminar profiles. Accounting for variable transport properties also changes the mean profiles considerably, and so including them in the computation of the laminar profiles is equally important. At larger heat release, two modes that are stronger in the outer part of the shear layer have the highest growth rates; they also have shorter wavelengths than the center mode.
Considering the importance of the detailed resolution of the reacting flow field inside a gasifier, the objective of this study lies on to investigate the effect of important variables to influence on the reacting flow and thereby to clarify the physical feature occurring inside the gasifier using a comprehensive gasifier computer program. Thus, in this study the gasification process of a 1.0 ton/day gasifier are numerically modeled using the Fluent code. And parametric investigation has been made in terms of swirl intensity and aspect ratio of the gasifier. Doing this, special attention is given on the detailed change of the reacting flow field inside a gasifier especially with the change of this kind of design and operation parameters. Based on this study, a number of useful conclusions can be drawn in the view of flow pattern inside gasifier together with the consequence of the gasification process caused by the change of the flow pattern. Especially, swirl effect gives rise to a feature of a central delayed recirculation zone, which is different from the typical strong central recirculation appeared near the inlet nozzle. The delayed feature of central recirculation appearance could be explained by the increased axial momentum due to the substantial amount of the presence of the coal slurry occupying over the entire gasifier in gasification process. Further, the changes of flow pattern are explained in detail with the gasifier aspect ratio. In general, the results obtained are physically acceptable in parametric study.

The computations of chemically reacting laminar and turbulent flows are performed using the preconditioned Navier-Stokes solver coupled with turbulent transport and multi-species equations. A low-Reynolds number $k-\varepsilon$ turbulence model proposed by Chien is used. The presence of the turbulent kinetic energy tenn in the momentum equation can materially affect the overall stability of the fluids-turbulence system. Because of this coupling effect, a fully coupled formulation is desirable and this approach is taken in the present study. Choi and Merkle's preconditioning technique is used to overcome the convergence difficulties occurred at low speed flows. The numerical scheme used for the present study is based on the implicit upwind ADI algorithm and is validated through the comparisons of computational and experimental results for laminar methane-air diffusion flame and $ H_2/O_2$ reacting turbulent shear flow. Preconditioning formulation shows better convergence characteristics than that of non-preconditioned system by approximately five times as much.
