  • The recent seismic events that occurred in South Korea have increased the interest in the re-evaluation of the seismic capacity of nuclear power plant (NPP) equipment, which is often conservatively estimated. To date, various approaches-including the Bayesian method proposed by the United States (US) Electric Power Research Institute -have been developed to quantify the seismic capacity of NPP equipment. Among these, the Bayesian approach has advantages in accounting for both prior knowledge and new information to update the probabilistic distribution of seismic capacity. However, data availability and region-specific issues exist in applying this Bayesian approach to Korean NPP equipment. Therefore, this paper proposes to construct an earthquake experience database by combining available earthquake records at Korean NPP sites and the general location of equipment within NPPs. Also, for the better representation of the seismic demand of Korean earthquake datasets, which have distinct seismic characteristics from those of the US at a high-frequency range, a broadband frequency range optimization is suggested. The proposed data construction and seismic demand optimization method for seismic capacity re-evaluation are demonstrated and tested on a 480 V motor control center of a South Korea NPP.

  • Software are being studied to register and manage assets. And Methods for evaluating software systems have been based on subjective evaluation criteria. We propose an evaluation model for evaluating complex assets obtained from the complexity measurement of the preceding asset management system. We used scales to measure and provide logical complexity to measure the complexity of our architectural assets. And we used a method to evaluate whether it expresses attribute value of architecture asset. We have also built an evaluation model criterion for evaluating the usability of the asset data based on the ISO/IEC 25010 quality model characteristics of the SQuaRE Series. When the designers design the asset as a composite asset, the optional evaluation of the negative property that weights are assigned according to the characteristics of each asset is applied to secure the flexibility of the evaluation model.

  • Voice Recognition has recently been improved with AI(Artificial Intelligence) and has greatly improved the false recognition rate and provides an effective and efficient Human Machine Interface (HMI). This trend has also been applied in the defense industry, particularly in the aviation, F-35. However, for the quality evaluation of Voice Recognition, the defense industry, especially the aircraft, requires measurable quantitative models. In this paper, the quantitative evaluation model is proposed for applying Voice Recognition to aircraft. For the proposal, the evaluation items are identified from the Voice Recognition technology and ISO/IEC 25000(SQuaRE) quality attributes. Using these two perspectives, the quantitative evaluation model is proposed under aircraft operation condition and confirms the evaluation results.

  • Aims of the EXCEPT project and tasks and characteristics of the EXCEPT system are presented based on an analysis of urban planning EIAs. The methodology of evaluation in EIAs, which had to be developed in order to program the system, is based on a model of evaluation processes. Evaluation principles, evaluation rates, an environmental model and a model of the projects being planned are presented. The evaluation concern re-unifies the different components of evaluation again.

  • The adverse events which do not appear in the approval process tend to occur more frequently at the early stage of the use. Therefore new drugs, drugs with different active substances or routes of administration, or drugs with explicitly different efficacy added are particularly chosen for re-examination, and go through a study, which is conducted on 600 to 3,000 subjects over 4 to 6 years. Since the re-examination system was implemented in January 1995, 880 drug products have been designated as the subject of re-examination and among them 194 drugs have been completed their re-examination as of until March 2005. Post Marketing Surveillance to insure drug safety should be correlated with re-examination of new drug, re-evaluation of drug, and adverse event monitoring system. And the first labeling change should reflect all information collected for a defined period of time after the marketing authorization is granted. Furthermore centralized management through spontaneous reporting system of adverse event for whole period of time would be the most desirable type of system.

  • Background: Effluent Concentration Limits (ECLs) were re-evaluated via direct calculation using dose coefficients based on radiation protection quantity introduced in Korea and the intrinsic breathing rates of Korean residents. Materials and Methods: The re-evaluated ECLs were compared with the domestic standards given in the Notice of the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC), as well as with ECLs specified in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). Results and Discussion: The relative ratios of the re-evaluated ECLs to the currently applied domestic standards differed depending on the radionuclide type, but it was clearly shown that, for tritium ($^3H$) and radiocarbon ($^{14}C$), which significantly affect radiological dose to the public during the normal operation of nuclear power plants, the re-evaluated ECLs were higher than the domestic standards. This implies that Korean standards are relatively conservative. Conclusion: The re-evaluated results for each age group showed that $^{131}I$ (radioiodine), one of the significant radionuclides, had the lowest values, but nonetheless, the domestic standards for radioiodine were lower than the ECLs given in the CFR and the re-evaluated ECLs via a method given in the CFR.

  • The purpose of this paper was to design evaluation process on technological information analysis done by re-tired scientists and engineers. Existing studies on evaluation system and methodology were analyzed and their implications are as follows. To provide useful feedback to the retired scientists, indicators of evaluation should be simplified and method of evaluation confined to the quantitative one. And the results of evaluation need to be utilized in direction to encourage the old scientists and engineers.

  • Although the functional ingredient has been evaluated by the Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) based on scientific evidence, the levels of scientific evidence and consistency of the results might vary according to emerging data. Therefore, periodic re-evaluation may be needed for some functional ingredients. In this study, we re-evaluated scientific evidence for the antioxidant activity of coenzyme Q10 as a functional ingredient in health functional food. Literature searches were conducted using the Medline and Cochrane, KISS, and IBIDS databases for the years 1955-2010 with the search term of coenzyme Q10 in combination with antioxidant. The search was limited to human studies published in Korean, English, and Japanese. Using the KFDA's evidence based evaluation system for scientific evaluation of health claims, 33 human studies were identified and reviewed in order to evaluate the strength of the evidence supporting a relation between coenzyme Q10 and antioxidant activity. Among 33 studies, significant effects for antioxidant activities were reported in 22 studies and their daily intake amount was 60 to 300 mg. Based on this systematic review, we concluded that there was possible evidence to support a relation between coenzyme Q10 intake and antioxidant activities. However, because inconsistent results have recently been reported, future studies should be monitored.

  • Prosthetic decision-making is complex because of various factors, and involves a combination of the individual dentist's interpretation of the objective clinical data and his or her interaction with the patient. Increasing therapeutic options and emerging outcome data demand the constant re-evaluation of our decision-making process. In this case, fixed prosthetic restorations were selected as a treatment method to reconstruct the occlusal plane of a patient with disharmonious occlusal plane. And the occlusal plane was re-established by establishing a treatment plan through diagnostic wax-up. Provisional restorations obtained by continuous re-evaluation for a sufficient period of time was replicated to definitive restorations using CAD/CAM technology. The results were satisfactory when they were observed through clinical follow-up for 3 months after the end of treatment.
