Distribution of Irregular Wave Height in Finite Water Depth (유한수심에서의 불규칙파의 파고 분포)

  • This study is concerned with an analytic derivation of the probability density function applicable for wave heights in finite water depth using two different methods. As the first method of the study, a probability density function is developed by applying a series of polynomials which is orthogonal with respect to Rayleigh probability density function. The newly derived probability density function is compared with the histogram constructed from wave data obtained in finite water depth which indicate strong non-Gaussian characteristics. Although the probability density represents the histogram very well. it has negative density at large values. Although the magnitude of the negative density is small. it negates the use of the distribution function fer estimating extreme values. As the second method of the study, a probability density function of wave height is developed by applying the maximum entropy method. The probability density function thusly derived agrees very well with the wave height distribution in shallow water, and appears to be useful in estimating extreme values and statistical properties of wave heights in finite water depth. However, a functional relationship between the probability distribution and the non-Gaussian characteristics of the data cannot be obtained by applying the maximum entropy method.

A Study on the Reliability of S/W during the Developing Stage (소프트웨어 개발단계의 신뢰도에 관한 연구)

  • Many software reliability growth models(SRGM) have been proposed since the software reliability issue was raised in 1972. The technology to estimate and grow the reliability of developing S/W to target value during testing phase were developed using them. Most of these propositions assumed the S/W debugging testing efforts be constant or even did not consider them. A few papers were presented as the software reliability evaluation considering the testing effort was important afterwards. The testing effort forms which have been presented by this kind of papers were exponential, Rayleigh, Weibull, or Logistic functions, and one of these 4 types was used as a testing effort function depending on the S/W developing circumstances. I propose the methology to evaluate the SRGM using least square estimater and maximum likelihood estimater for those 4 functions, and then examine parameters applying actual data adopted from real field test of developing S/W.

  • Signal Fading due to multipath propagation severely impairs the performance of high-speed mobile communication systems. Effective diversity scheme for fading channel is STTD (Space Time Transmitter Diversity) method. This scheme is very simple and using 2 transmit antennas and 1 receive antenna provides a diversity order of two[1],[2]. In this paper, we derive the new probability density function of the envelope of the received signal over correlated Rayleigh fading channel. Using the new pdf of the envelope we analyze the performance of noncoherent M-ary FSK, DPSK and ASKSTTD (Space Time Transmitter Diversity) a system on correlated Rayleigh fading channel.

  • The effect of the sub-optimal beam-forming and the fading channel correlation on the closed loop transmit antenna diversity(CTD) system is investigated in frequency flat Rayleigh fading channels. The fast channel fading prevents the perfect channel estimation at a mobile station, hence the imperfect weight is applied to the antenna branch of transmitter. The weight causes sub-optimalbeam-forming and aggravates the performance of CTD system. The fading correlation or a wireless channel also is one of the factors decreasing the diversity gain. A bit error rate expression for the CTD system is analytically derived as a function of the channel estimation error, the channel correlation coefficient the feedback delay, and fading index. It is shown that the channel estimation error gives more severe effect to the system performance than the channel correlation.

  • A numerical study on natural convection induced by free surface heat flux and cold left and hot right walls in glass melting furnaces has been performed. A function of heat flux derived from the combustion environments of actual glass melting furnace is applied to thermal boundary condition at free surface. Fundamentally there exist two flow cells in cavity (left counterclockwise one and right clockwise one). The effects of heat flux and Rayleigh number are investigated through two-dimensional steady-state assumption. The convection strength of two flow cell located in left region continuously increases. In the mean time the strength of flow cell in right region increases and then decreases. Critical Rayleigh number in which two flow cells take place above and below show linear dependence on the free surface heat flux. To maintain the traditional flow pattern (left and right flow cells) in glass melting furnace, Rayleigh number is recommended to be below 10$^{5}$ .

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the vibro-acoustic characteristics of a stiffened rectangular plate at high frequencies. The stiffeners attached along the plate surface were assumed to have rotational and translational stiffness and inertia. The harmonic response of the stiffened plate were predicted and compared using the Rayleigh-Ritz method with two different trial functions - polynomial and beam functions. The variation of the spatially averaged mean square velocity and the modal characteristics with the number of stiffeners were obtained. The use of the beam function ensured fast convergence which was essential for analyzing the high frequency vibration responses. Using the calculated modal characteristics and the Rayleigh-integral, the radiated sound power was predicted, and the effects of stiffeners were investigated. The proposed model can be applied to study optimal layout of stiffeners for minimal noise generation of the stiffened structures.

  • We examine the performance of a Raman amplifier as a function of fiber structure with respect to amplifier gain and double Rayleigh crosstalk penalty. Variations on fiber core radius or index affect both the Raman gain efficiency and Rayleigh backscattering. Contrary to the common concept, the penalty from the doubly amplified Rayleigh scattering could exceed the benefits of higher gain efficiency of small effective area fibers. Appropriate fiber designing parameters are required to increase Raman amplifier efficiency without system penalties. lties.

Comparative Analysis on the Performance of NHPP Software Reliability Model with Exponential Distribution Characteristics (지수분포 특성을 갖는 NHPP 소프트웨어 신뢰성 모형의 성능 비교 분석)

  • In this study, the performance of the NHPP software reliability model with exponential distribution (Exponential Basic, Inverse Exponential, Lindley, Rayleigh) characteristics was comparatively analyzed, and based on this, the optimal reliability model was also presented. To analyze the software failure phenomenon, the failure time data collected during system operation was used, and the parameter estimation was solved by applying the maximum likelihood estimation method (MLE). Through various comparative analysis (mean square error analysis, true value predictive power analysis of average value function, strength function evaluation, and reliability evaluation applied with mission time), it was found that the Lindley model was an efficient model with the best performance. Through this study, the reliability performance of the distribution with the characteristic of the exponential form, which has no existing research case, was newly identified, and through this, basic design data that software developers could use in the initial stage can be presented.

  • This article studies the monotonicity, log-convexity of the modified Lommel functions by using its power series and infinite product representation. Some properties for the ratio of the modified Lommel functions with the Lommel function, sinh and cosh are also discussed. As a consequence, $Tur{\acute{a}}n$ type and reverse $Tur{\acute{a}}n$ type inequalities are given. A Rayleigh type function for the Lommel functions are derived and as an application, we obtain the Redheffer-type inequality.

  • The vibration characteristic of thin laminated orthotropic cylindrical shell is investigated based on the Donnell theory. The Rayleigh-Ritz variational procedure is employed. For the variety of shell end conditions, the beam characteristic function is used for the axial mode function. The result of the present analysis is in good agreement with some available analytical results and NASTRAN and BOSOR4 calculations. In the present study, the relation between natural frequencies and orthotropic parameter k is investigated. Introducing the frequency parameter, this study shows that the frequency parameter increases as the orthotropic parameter k approaches to one.
