  • While the water-filling algorithm is an efficient power allocation method that maximizes the ergodic capacity of adaptive MIMO systems, its excessive residual power causes spectrum loss in real systems employing discrete modulation indices. In this paper we propose new power allocation algorithms that improve the spectral efficiency of MIMO systems by efficiently reallocating the residual power of the water-filling algorithm. We apply the proposed algorithms to the adaptive turbo-coded MIMO system to verify their performance through computer simulation in various environments. Simulation results show that the spectral efficiency of the proposed algorithms is better than that of the water-filling algorithm by about 8.9% at SNR of 20dB in Rayleigh fading environments.

  • In this paper, the performance about the CDMA inital synchronization under the Rician fading channel, which is actively studied as a CAI for IMT2000(FPLMTS) is analyzed. Through the performance analysis with the double dwell serial search code acquisition, the minimum mean initial synchronization acquisition time vs signal detection threshold value and first dwell duration time respectively with parameters of false alarm probability, detection probability and test PN chips is presented and the results show the mean initial synchronization acquisition time is increased with lower slope than Rayleigh fading as the threshold value of the initial synchronization acquisition decision is increased.

  • Pilot symbol assisted modulation (PSAM) can be used for the channel estimation in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission systems. However, imperfect channel estimates in PSAM systems degrade the bit error rate (BER) performance. I derive the BER of PSAM OFDM systems over time dispersive fading channels. The BER performance of OFDM systems with SFBC antenna diversity are analyzed, where data is transmitted over time and frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel. The performance of this PSAM SFBC OFDM systems, gauged by the average bit error rate, is analyzed considering the channel estimation error.

  • In this paper, we evaluate and analyze representative estimation methods for the sparse channel. In order to evaluate error performance of matching pursuit(MP) and minimum mean square error(MMSE) algorithm, lower bound of MMSE is determined by Cramer-Rao bound and compared with upper bound of MP. Based on analysis of those bounds, mean square error of MP which is effective in the estimation of sparse channel can be larger than that of MMSE according to the number of estimated tap and signal-to-noise ratio. Simulation results show that the performances of both algorithm are reversed on the sparse channel with Rayleigh fading according to signal-to-noise ratio.

  • This paper aims to maximize the energy harvesting rate and channel capacity in RF-energy harvesting networks (RF-EHNs) under the constraints of maximum transmit power and minimum quality of service (QoS) in terms of rate capacity for each user. We study a multi-user RF-EHN with frequency division multiple access (FDMA) in a Rayleigh channel. An access point (AP) simultaneously transmitting wireless information and power in the RF-EHN serves a subset of active users which have a power-splitting antenna. To gauge the network performance, we define energy efficiency (EE) and propose an optimization solution for maximizing EE with Lagrangian dual decomposition theory. In simulation results, we confirm that the EE is effectively maximized by the proposed solution with satisfying the given constraints.

  • DQM(differential quadrature method) is applied to computation of eigenvalues of the equations of motion governing the free in-plane vibration fur circular curved beams including both rotatory inertia and shear deformation. Fundamental frequencies are calculated for the members with clamped-clamped end conditions and various opening angles. The results are compared with numerical solutions by other methods for cases in which they are available. The differential quadrature method gives good accuracy even when only a limited number of grid points is used.

  • This paper describes analysis results of vibration characteristics and modal test for a small-scale quad-rotor drone. The rotor arm has a slender body with a propeller and motor at its tip. Rotor system generates excitation for an unbalanced mass. Therefore, the drone platform is involved in the possibility of resonance. For advance identification of the possibility of resonance, confirmation of eigen-mode being closest to the propeller operation range is necessary. Material properties of CFRP tubes used for the rotor arm were acquired by finding the natural frequency based on Rayleigh method. A simplified quad-rotor FE model consisting of rotor arm assembly with tip mass was built to perform numerical analysis, and a free-free boundary condition was applied to provide flight status. Modal tests for the actual platform with impact hammer instrument were performed to verify analysis results. Separation margin from hazardous eigen-mode was checked on the propeller operation range.

  • A study has been conducted experimentally on natural convection heat transfer characteristics of a vertical flat plate with horizontal rectangular fins in air. The effects of fin heights and Rayleigh numbers are mainly investigated. The experimental results are as follows; 1. The mean fin, plate and total Nusselt numbers decrease as dimensionless fin heights H/S increase at $0.50{\leq}H/S{\leq}2.00$. 2. The mean fin surface Nusselt number in case of H/S = 0.50 and $Ra_c=4.33{\times}10^3$ shows its maximum at $X_1$, surface where there is no interference with other fins. 3. Owing to the interference of fins the mean plate Nusselt numbers at H/S=0.50 and 2.00 for $Ra_S=6.57{\times}10^3$ are 35% and 80% respectively less than the mean fin Nusselt numbers. 4. The mean fin, plate and total Nusselt numbers of horizontal rectangular fins show higher values at short fins, but lower values at long fins than those of upward vertical fins.

  • This study aims to investigate the influence of the droplet volume on the evaporation characteristics of the sessile droplet. In particular, the effect of the free convection in the vapor domain on the evaporation rate was analyzed through the numerical simulation. The commercial code of the ANSYS Fluent (V.2020 R2) was used to simulate the heat transfer in the liquid-vapor domain. Moreover, we used the diffusion model to estimate the evaporation rate for the different droplet volume under the room temperature. It was found that the evaporation rate significantly increases with the droplet volume because of the larger surface area for the mass transfer. Also, the effect of free convection on the evaporation rate becomes significant with an increment of droplet volume owing to the increase in the droplet radius corresponding to the characteristic length of the free convection.

  • In this paper, we proposed reliability and capacity enhancement methods for IEEE 802.15.3 HDR-WPAN (High Data Rate-Wireless Personal Area Network) system which is currently getting an interest in home network technology adopting a MIMO technique. We also analyzed performance or the proposed system through a computer simulation. The HDR-WPAN system using V-BLAST algorithm, transmitting the different signal vector to each other's sub-channel, can get the transmission speed of more than 110Mbps using two Tx/Px antenna without bandwidth expansion in TCM-64QAM mode. Also the proposed system has reliability of 104 at $E_b/N_0=35dB$ under the Rayleigh fading channel in case of two Tx/Rx antenna with MMSE algorithm. The HDR-WPAN system adopting V-BLAST method has its drawback which is very complicated to determine the decision-ordering at the receiver. But, the proposed system enhances the transmission capacity and reliability without extra bandwidth expansion by sending data streams to multiple antennas.
