  • Partition coefficients for zinc vary on a broad range depending on properties of the foundry sands (TOC, clay content, total iron content) and solution pH. Among these properties, solution pH was found to be the most important factor. Empirical equations were developed from batch tests to predict partition coefscients and rate constants as a function of foundry sand properties and solution pH. Rate constants obtained from batch (kinetic) tests and batch sorption tests were found to be comparable when the solution pHs were comparable.

  • The inferences of data obtained from periodic inspection and type I censoring for the three step stress accelerated life test are studied in this paper. The failure rate function that a log-quadratic relation of stress and the tampered failure rate model are considered under the exponential distribution. The optimal stress change times which minimize the asymptotic variance of maximum likelihood estimators of parameters is determined and the maximum likelihood estimators of the model parameters are estimated. A numerical example will be given to illustrate the proposed inferential procedures.

  • In this paper, a scheme for recognition of handwritten digits using a multilayer neural network trained with the back-propagation algorithm using generalized delta rule is proposed. The neural network is trained with hand written digit data of different writers and different styles. One of the purpose of the work with neural networks is the minimization of the mean square error(MSE) between actual output and desired one. The back-propagation algorithm is an efficient and very classical method. The back-propagation algorithm for training the weights in a multilayer net uses the steepest descent minimization procedure and the sigmoid threshold function. As an error rate is reduced, recognition rate is improved. Therefore we propose a method that is reduced an error rate.

  • In DS-CDMA cellular systems, using the same frequency channel at the adjacent cells simultaneously makes soft handoff possible. In soft handoff, mobiles use multiple radio resources for the space diversity of signal in the overlapped region. The previous traffic models of hard handoff are not applicable to the system with soft handoff due to switching radio channels in that region. The handoff rate can be calculated by the mobility of mobiles, which is a function of the size and shape of a cell, and the speed and density of the mobiles. In this paper, we propose an analytical traffic model to study the soft handoff rate. We assume that the system uses a two-way handoff scheme for practical purposes, which connects only two cells to a mobile during soft handoff. We performed a computer simulation to confirm the accuracy of the proposed soft handoff model. The simulation results show good agreement with the analytical model.

  • A new method to evaluate erosion of biodegradable polymer, polyanhydrides, was developed. The polymer devices were prepared with the melt-casting method and weight loss was accurately measured after agitating the devices in buffers (pH 1-9), and removing the device at selected time intervals and freeze-drying the device. The erosion rate was estimated from the plot of the weight loss(%) of device as a function of time. The freeze-drying technique used in this study is particularly useful for estimating the erosion rate of biodegradable polymer.

  • This paper presents the modeling of Single Electron Transistor (SET) based on Physical model of a device and its equivalent circuit. The physical model is derived from Schrodinger equation. The wave function of the electrode is calculated using Hartree-Fock method and the quantum dot calculation is obtained from WKB approximation. The resulting wave functions are used to compute tunneling rates. From the tunneling rate the current is calculated. The equivalent circuit model discuss about the effect of capacitance on tunneling probability and free energy change. The parameters of equivalent circuit are extracted and optimized using genetic algorithm. The effect of tunneling probability, temperature variation effect on tunneling rate, coulomb blockade effect and current voltage characteristics are discussed.

  • This study suggests integrated neural network models for Interest rate forecasting using change-point detection, classifiers, and classification functions based on structural change. The proposed model is composed of three phases with tee-staged learning. The first phase is to detect successive and appropriate structural changes in interest rare dataset. The second phase is to forecast change-point group with classifiers (discriminant analysis, logistic regression, and backpropagation neural networks) and their. combined classification functions. The fecal phase is to forecast the interest rate with backpropagation neural networks. We propose some classification functions to overcome the problems of two-staged learning that cannot measure the performance of the first learning. Subsequently, we compare the structured models with a neural network model alone and, in addition, determine which of classifiers and classification functions can perform better. This article then examines the predictability of the proposed classification functions for interest rate forecasting using structural change.

  • The experimental studies for the etch properties of the oxide grown on silicon substrate, which is in diluted hydrogen fluoride (HF) solution, are presented. Using different ion implantation dosages, dopants and energies, silicon substrate was implanted. The wet etching in diluted HF solution is used as a mean of wafer cleaning at various steps of VLSI processing. It is shown that the wet etch rate of oxide grown on various implanted silicon substrates is a strong function of ion implantation dopants, dosages and energies. This phenomenon has never been reported before. This paper shows that the difference of wet etch rate of oxide by ion implantation conditions is attributed to the kinds and volumes of dopants which was diffused out into $SiO_2$ from implanted silicon during thermal oxidation.

  • This paper is about the implementation of the OFDM-based border guard/reconnaissance communication terminal systems. We have implemented Real-time Dynamic DL/UL symbol rate control function using the DL-MAP message, and proposed error detection method caused by malfunctioning and timing optimization method. The proposed scheme detects the variable rate symbol decoding timing without increasing additional physical layer logic, and also provides a wide variety of DL/UL data transfer rate. Furthermore, the proposed scheme applies to the current border guard/reconnaissance equipment and confirms a operation performance through field tests and demonstration at home and abroad.

  • This study describes a software engine that can evaluate human sensibility using a heart rate variable(HRV) of hypochodriac or old people, and suggest biofeedback to enhance their emotion. To develop the software engine, using PPG signal heart rate and HRV are calculated. Using the FFT spectra of HRV, human sensibility is estimated. And a biofeedback software is designed with motion image player, breathing control and other function modules.
