  • Test Model15, which is used widely for the MPEG-2 bit rate control, has several problems such as non-unform picture quality, scene change and buffer underflow. Therefore, various algorithms have been developed to solve these problems. In this paper, we study various algorithms for the MPEG-2 bit rate control and compare their performances using software simulations. We also propose a new bit rate control strategy based on coded types of macroblocks within a picture.

  • If we can supply accurate minute flow rate to the households, we can solve many problems that are occurring in consequences of uncontrolled flow rate for the households. Therefore, this paper presents an innovative solution to the source of the problems by illustrating how we can control the flow rate to the household. This paper proves such problems even can be solved in a case when there is a room turned off the heating.

A New Approach to Solve the Rate Control Problem in Wired-cum-Wireless Networks

  • In this paper, we propose a new optimization approach to the rate control problem in a wired-cum-wireless network. A primal-dual interior-point(PDIP) algorithm is used to find the solution of the rate optimization problem. We show a comparison between the dual-based(DB) algorithm and PDIP algorithm for solving the rate control problem in the wired-cum-wireless network. The PDIP algorithm performs much better than the DB algorithm. The PDIP can be considered as an attractive method to solve the rate control problem in network. We also present a numerical example and simulation to illustrate our conclusions.

Improvement of trajectory tracking control performance by using ILC

  • This paper presents an iterative learning control (ILC) approach for tracking problems with specified data points that are desired points at certain time instants. To design ILC systems for such problems, unlike traditional ILC approaches, an algorithm which updates not only the control signal but also the reference trajectory at each trial will be developed. The relationship between the reference trajectory and ILC control in tracking problems where there are specified data points through which the system should pass is investigated as the rate of convergence. In traditional ILC, the desired data is stored in a tracking profile file. Due to the huge size of the data file containing the target points, it is important to reduce the computational cost. Finally, simulation results of the presented technique are mentioned and compared to other related works to confirm the effectiveness of proposed scheme.

  • The control modes used in teleoperation are position control mode, and rate control mode. This paper presents the problems of the conventional control modes, through simulation, proposes an intelligent mixed control mode that converts the operation mode between the position mode and the rate mode intelligently by judging the operator's intention using the real-time measurement data. The effectiveness of the proposed intelligent mixed control mode is demonstrated and compared to other typical control modes through simulation and actual experiment.

Adaptive Control of Strong Mutation Rate and Probability for Queen-bee Genetic Algorithms

  • This paper introduces an adaptive control method of strong mutation rate and probability for queen-bee genetic algorithms. Although the queen-bee genetic algorithms have shown good performances, it had a critical problem that the strong mutation rate and probability should be selected by a trial and error method empirically. In order to solve this problem, we employed the measure of convergence and used it as a control parameter of those. Experimental results with four function optimization problems showed that our method was similar to or sometimes superior to the best result of empirical selections. This indicates that our method is very useful to practical optimization problems because it does not need time consuming trials.

  • In this work, the problem of regulating and tracking available bit rate (ABR) traffic in ATM network. The issue of providing control signals to throttled sources at distant location from bottlenecked node is of particular interest. Network modeling and design of controller is outlined. To obtain optimal control, receding horizon control (RHC) theory is applied. Simulation results are presented in views of regulation and tracking problems with or without constraints.

  • The rate control is very important to solve the difficulties arising from bit-rate on transmission through channel and to improve video quality. It is very important to point out that the amount of output bit obtained the encoding process using rate controller brings many problems on the transmission of channels and furthermore output bitstream decoded affects directly on the visual quality of displayed subject. In this paper, the effective rate control algorithm by rate-distortion modeling using MPEG-4 encoder is proposed. The proposed rate control has applied different weighting by VOP prediction type and even in the same VOP prediction type, the predicted reference allocates more bit. Through these bit allocation the minimization of distortion can be achieved preventing propagation of quantization error The amount of saved bitstream obtained by the proposed algorithm in this thesis is allocated to I-VOP using region of interest(ROI) selective enhancement on the next GOV encoding process and this process brought the improvement of visual quality.

Fuzzy Neural Network Active Disturbance Rejection Control for Two-Wheeled Self-Balanced Robot

  • Considering the problems of poor control effect, weak disturbance rejection ability and adaptive ability of two-wheeled self-balanced robot (TWSBR) systems on undulating roads, this paper proposes a fuzzy neural network active disturbance rejection controller (FNNADRC), that is based on fuzzy neural network (FNN) for online correction of active disturbance rejection controller (ADRC)'s nonlinear control rate. Firstly, the dynamic model of the TWSBR is established and decoupled, the extended state observer (ESO) is used to compensate dynamically and linearize the upright and displacement subsystems. Then, the nonlinear PD control rate and FNN are designed, and the FNN is used to modify the control parameters of the nonlinear PD control rate in real time. Finally, the proposed control strategy is simulated and compared with the traditional ADRC and fuzzy active disturbance rejection controller (FADRC). The simulation results show that the control effect of the proposed control strategy is slightly better than ADRC and FADRC.

  • This paper analyzes the $h{\times}p$ version of the finite element method for optimal control problems constrained by elliptic partial differential equations with random inputs. The main result is that the $h{\times}p$ error bound for the control problems subject to stochastic partial differential equations leads to an exponential rate of convergence with respect to p as for the corresponding direct problems. Numerical examples are used to confirm the theoretical results.
