Solvent effect on the excited state of stilbene dendrimers bearing phenylacetylene groups

  • We studied the characteristics of emissive state of the first (p-G1) and second (p-G2) generation of phenylacetylene dendrimers bearing stilbene as a core by using time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy in cyclohexane (c-Hex) and N, N-dimethylformide (DMF), which are nonpolar and polar solvents, respectively. Time-dependent red-shift of emission spectra p-G2 both in c-Hex and DMF was observed in comparison with p-G1. Besides, the time constant of red-shift of spectra was found to be larger in DMF than in c-Hex. This indicates that the emissive state of p-G2 has a polar character in DMF as a result of charge delocalization from core to peripheral dendrons followed by stabilization of emissive state.

  • Nowadays, the rapid increase of the available amount of internet and system performance has revealed urgent need a method of decryption about digital encryption for stabilization of multimedia data transmission. In this paper, we propose a method of decryption of each frame about video data. Also for advanced decryption, we propose color image decryption method through 4-bit binary of $GF(2^m)$ inverse about an each frame.

  • At central synapses, activity-dependent synaptic plasticity has a crucial role in information processing, storage, learning, and memory under both physiological and pathological conditions. One widely accepted model of learning mechanism and information processing in the brain is Hebbian Plasticity: long-term potentiation (LTP) and long-term depression (LTD). LTP and LTD are respectively activity-dependent enhancement and reduction in the efficacy of the synapses, which are rapid and synapse-specific processes. A number of recent studies have a strong focal point on the critical importance of another distinct form of synaptic plasticity, non-Hebbian plasticity. Non-Hebbian plasticity dynamically adjusts synaptic strength to maintain stability. This process may be very slow and occur cell-widely. By putting them all together, this mini review defines an important conceptual difference between Hebbian and non-Hebbian plasticity.

  • 345kV youngheung tansmission line which has been constructed in the western sea is the first and the largest marine project in the world crossing the youngheung island and the sihwa bay. It helps the stabilization of power supply greatly to cope with the rapid growth of the electric power consumption in the metropolitan areas and Gyeonggi province. Haying constructed the project successfully with the purely domestic-developed technologies, KEPCO is able to not only accumulate more advanced technologies of the marine project but also establish a bridgehead toward overseas market. It is very meaningful that we completed project successfully in spite of many difficulties including the uncertainty of the first project in the sea and strong objections from the environment groups and local residents. In this paper I will briefly introduce the project, newly developed technologies and materials.

  • The complexity of the papermaking system accelerates interactions between a large number of variables involved. The process operation, therefore, is subject to frequent perturbations by disturbance. Dynamic modelling is a useful tool for characterizing the transient behavior and selecting the best control strategies to reject disturbances. In this study we developed a dynamic simulation model of a fine paper production process, which consists of stock preparation, wire sections, white water circulations, and broke system. It focused on dynamic simulation in its role for developing control strategies and studying control loop dynamics related to filler loading for ash control. The results emphasized the importance of filler-loading position and length of control loop for rapid ash control and process stabilization.

  • In this paper, there is intended to introduce the new tunnel face shape, that is concave shaped face, and discusses its effects on the tunnel stabilization. Therefore, a comparative analysis in which the stability of a concave face was compared to that of a conventional plane face on the basis of displacement patterns in the tunnel face was conducted using a model test. In order to check and confirm displacement patterns on the concave face according to the radius of curvature as well as those around the face according to lateral pressure coefficient(k), two experimental concave models, produced at a scale of 1:2 and 1:5(tunnel radius), of the forefront of the curved area extended from plane face was built and tested.

  • Ultra thin $Ta_2O_5$ gate dielectrics were prepared by RTMOCVD (rapid thermal metal organic chemical vapor deposition) using Ta source $TaC_{12}H_{30}O_5N$ and $O_2$ gaseous mixtures. As a result, $Ta_2O_5$ thin films showed significantly low leakage current compared to $SiO_2$ of identical thickness, which was due to the stabilization of the interfacial layer by NO ($SiO_xN_y$) passivation layer. The conduction of leakage current in $Ta_2O_5$ thin films was described by the hopping mechanism of Poole-Frenkel (PF) type.

  • In this study, we observe the application of shape memory alloy(SMA) into smart structures for repeatable actuation, because SMA changes its material properties and characteristics progressively under cyclic loading conditions and finally reaches stable path(state) after a certain number of stress/temperature loading-unloading cycles, so called 'training'. In this paper, SMA wires that have been in a stable state through the training are used. Stress-strain curve of the SMA wire at different temperature levels are measured. In addition, we observe other important effects such as the rate effect according to strain rates for rapid actuation response. The current work presents the experimental test using SMA wire after training completion by mechanical cycling. Through these tests, we measure the characteristics of SMA. With the estimated SMA properties and effects, we compare the experimental results with the simulation results based on the SMA constitutive equations.

Aeration Control of Thermophilic Aerobic Digestion Using Fluorescence Monitoring

  • The thermophilic aerobic digestion (TAD) process is recognized as an effective method for rapid waste activated sludge (WAS) degradation and the deactivation of pathogenic microorganisms. Yet, high energy costs due to heating and aeration have limited the commercialization of economical TAD processes. Previous research on autothermal thermophilic aerobic digestion (ATAD) has already reduced the heating cost. However, only a few studies have focused on reducing the aeration cost. Therefore, this study applied a two-step aeration control strategy to a fill-and-draw mode semicontinuous TAD process. The NADH-dependent fluorescence was monitored throughout the TAD experiment, and the aeration rate shifted according to the fluorescence intensity. As a result, the simple two-step aeration control operation achieved a 20.3% reduction in the total aeration, while maintaining an effective and stable operation. It is also expected that more savings can be achieved with a further reduction of the lower aeration rate or multisegmentation of the aeration rate.

  • KEPCO is now driving forward the raising of transmission-line-voltage from 345kV to 765kV for the stabilization of network and as the counter measure of the rapid-increasing of domestic electric power demands. 800kV GIS is one of the most important apparatuses in the 765kV substation and we are developing the Model $SF_6$ GCB for the GIS now. We'll explain the present condition of development of 800kV $SF_6$ GCB until now.
