  • In this study, $Pb_{0.88}(La_{\alpha}Nd_{1-\alpha})_{0.08}(Mn_{1/3}Sb_{2/3})_{0.02}Ti_{0.98}O_3$ system ceramics with La molar ratio $\alpha$ variation were manufactured for 24 MHz class resonator application. Electromechanical coupling factor, mechanical quality factor and dynamic range of $3^{rd}$ overtone thickness vibration mode were measured as the variations of La and Nd molar ratio. Mechanical quality factor and dynamic range at $\alpha$ = 0.6 composition ceramics showed the highest value of 2691 and 52.37 dB, respectively. The temperature coefficient of resonant frequency measured from $-20^{\circ} to 80^{\circ}$ showed an excellent value of $5ppm/^{\circ}C$ at $\alpha$=1 composition ceramics.

  • In order to find an effect of structural changes due to variation of addition ratio of anhydride hardener and postcuring herat-treatments upon electrical properties of epoxy composites, the dielectric properties over a frequency range from 30[Hz] to l[MHz] were investigated in the temperature range of 20-180[.deg. C]. From the dielectric properties, the a peaks related with glass-transition phenomena of epoxy network appeared near 130[.deg. C], the conduction loss in high temperature region above 150[.deg. C] due to thermal dissociation of hardener started off with the low frequency side and the .betha. peak concerned with contribution of movable unreacted terminal epoxy groups and curing agents in the glass states concurred with the high-frequency side below 20[.deg. C]. And an effect of an hydride hardener upon structural changes and of postcuring heat treatments upon structural stability in epoxy composites would be explained through the estimation of the distribution of relaxation times and the activation energy for a .alpha. peak according to the WLF equations.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the applicability of true model theory in a powered lugged wheel-soil system and to examine the possibility of using principles of similitude in investigating the dimensions of soil parameters pertinent to a powered lugged wheel-soil system concerning the sinkage prediction. The following conclusions were derived from the study; 1) The sinkage of prototype wheels proved to be predicted by those of the model wheels for the range of the dynamic weight tested. 2) A conditional equation which can be used for the prediction of sinkage of prototype by model test was derived as $n_f=n{_\ell}{^{-b}}$. The range of the numerical value of b, which is the exponent on the length dimension of the soil property ${\alpha}$, was found to be -1.48~-2.54. 3) Considering a relatively wide variation of b values, it was concluded that there are several soil properties which are pertinent to the powered lugged-wheel soil system concerning the sinkage prediction.

  • Effect of acetylated starches (acetylated rice starch and acetylated tapioca starch) on rheological properties of hot pepper-soybean paste (HPSP) at different mixing ratios of rice flour (RF) and acetylated starch (AS) (10/0, 9/1, 8/2, and 7/3) was evaluated in steady and dynamic shear. All HPSP samples at $25^{\circ}C$ exhibited shear-thinning (n=0.31-0.36) and thixotropic behavior with high yield stresses and their steady flow curves were well described by power law and Casson models. The presence of AS resulted in the decrease in consistency index (K), apparent viscosity (${\eta}_{a,100}$), and yield stress (${\sigma}_{oc}$), and their predominant decreases were noticed at higher ratio of RF to AS (7/3 ratio). Arrhenius temperature relationship represents variation with temperature in the range of $5-35^{\circ}C$ with the high determination coefficients ($R^2=0.97-0.99$). Dynamic moduli (G', G", and ${\eta}^*$) values of HPSP samples mixed with AS were lower than those of HPSP with no added AS within the experimental range of frequency (0.63-62.8 rad/sec). Steady and dynamic shear rheological properties of HPSP samples seem to be greatly influenced by the presence of acetylated starch.

  • In order to study electrical properties of epoxy composites with various additives rates and curing conditions, dielectric measurements have been performed over a frequency range from 30 [Hz] to 3 [MHz] and a temperature range of 20[$^{\circ}C$]$\sim$180[$^{\circ}C$] The observed higher values of dielectric permittivity and loss In the case of filled epoxy are attributed to MWS polarization effect. The low temperature peak assigned to the $\beta$-relaxation process is attributed to the enhenced rotation of the methyl group attached to the main chain and the presence of filler. And the high temperature peak ($\alpha$-relaxation process)is associated with the segmental motion or glass transition process.

  • The effects of temperature on nitrification of enriched nitrifiers were investigated by using kinetics and thermodynamics method through the batch test. Aquaculture recirculating water, which was sampled at Chung Cheong Buk-Do Inland Fisheries Research Institute, was analized to observe the characteristics of nitrification. Temporal variation of ammonium, nitrite and nitrate concentration was measured at batch experiments. Activation energy was calculated using Arrhenius equation with the oxidation rates of specific ammonium or nitrite ion. These oxidation rates were measured at temperature range of $6-35^{\circ}C$ and ammonium concentration range of 0.2-1.8 mg/L. Two distinct activation energy of Nitrosomonas sp. at temperature $6-15^{\circ}C\;and\;15-35^{\circ}C$ was 93.1 and 25.0 KJ/mol, respectively. Nitrate accumulation was observed at temperature over $15^{\circ}C.$

  • In this research, we studied the pressure drop affecting on the internal surface roughness and the curvature radius of a U-tube, which is used for the cooling system in PWR(Pressurized Water Reactor). Using ANSYS-FLUENT, a commercial code based on CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) technique, we compared a Moody chart with the Darcy friction factor changed by a range of various surface roughness and Reynolds numbers of a straight pipe model. We studied the effect giving variation about a range of various surface roughness and the curvature radius of the full scale U-tube model. The material of the heat transfer tube is Inconel 690 used in the steam generator. We compared the velocity distribution of selected 4 locations, and derived the correlation between the surface roughness and the pressure drop for the U-tube of each representative curvature radius using the linear regression method.

  • ${\delta}^{13}C$ and ${\delta}^{18}O$ values were determined for the Paleozoic limestones (Great Linestone Series) from the Taebaegsan region and the age-unknown limestones (Janggun Formation) from the Janggun mine, Korea. Limestones of the Great Limestone Series exhibit a range of carbon isotopic composition from -4.5 +1.3‰ with a mean ${\delta}^{13}C$ value of -1.1‰, relative to the PDB standard, and of oxygen isotpic composition from +8.8 to +23.3‰ with a mean ${\delta}^{18}O$ value of +16.0‰, relative to the SMOW, falling into the normal marine limestone range according to Keith and Weber (1964), and Degens and Epstein(1964). Carbon isotopic composition of limestones of the Great Limestone Series becomes progressively lighter from Pungchon limestone of middle Cambrian age to mid-Ordovician Maggol limestone, possibly due to change in depositional environment in the Taebaegsan basin. Variation in isotopic composition of limestones from Hwajeol to Dumugal formation offers the possibility or deposition in shallow sea environment, in which fresh waters were added in several stages. Janggun limestone of unknown age may be corelated with the Paleozoic limestones of Great Limestone Series as infered from the istopic composition ranging from -2.8 to + 0.7‰ of ${\delta}^{13}C$ and +13.4 to +22.4‰ of ${\delta}^{18}O$.

  • Experimental laboratory tests were carried out to assess the effect of fine content and salinity of soils on the measurement of TDR(Time Domain Reflectometry). In the test, using soil columm which was made by PVC pipe with the dimension of 25cm height and 20cm diameter, the salinity variation of soil was controlled by the solution which was dissolved NaCl to destilled water in the range of 0-40g.$L^-1$. The fine content of soil was controlled by kaolinite which was mixed with Jumunjin sand in the range of 0-50% to the total dry weight. The water contents of soil tested were measured with the conventional oven dry method beside TDR and compared the these values to figure out the extent of effect. As the results of tests, it was appeared that the water content measurement by TDR can be affected by the salinity level, fine contents, and the degree of saturation of the soil.

  • Alkali-soluble extracts were prepared from barks of Japanese larch(Larix leptolepis). Siberian larch(Larix gmelineii) and Radiata pine(Pinus radiata) The effect of various factors, such as particle size, liquor ratio, extraction temperature, and reaction time, on the extracts yield was investigated. Particle sizes affected the alkali-soluble extracts; the finer the particle size, the higher extracts and extract efficiency. High temperature and high liquor ratio were more effective. In the range of 0.25% to 1% NaOH concentration, alkali extracts were increased with the increasing alkali concentration. However, extract yields were leveled off above 0.5% alkali concentration. Extractions with NaHCO3 were almost equivalent to those of NaOH extraction. 1% NaOH and 1% NaHCO3 resulted in the highest yields of alkaline extracts. Extracts from Japanese larch were lower than those from Siberian larch and Radiata pine barks. Siberian larch bark was the best raw material for tannin adhesives, because its extractive yield was higher than those of the other barks. Concerning pH of alkaline media during extraction, small increases of the extract yields were resulted at range of pH 7 to pH 9, while a large increases from pH 9.0 to pH 12. This phenomenon is attributed to higher alkalinity.
