  • Proposed is a hybrid randomizing function using two asymptotically optimal randomizing functions: Elias function and Peres function. Randomizing function is an mathematical abstraction of producing a uniform random bits from a source of randomness with bias. It is known that the output rate of Elias function and Peres function approaches to the information-theoretic upper bound. Especially, for each fixed input length, Elias function is optimal. However, its computation is relatively complicated and depends on input lengths. On the contrary, Peres function is defined by a simple recursion. So its computation is much simpler, uniform over the input lengths, and runs on a small footprint. In view of this tradeoff between computational complexity and output efficiency, we propose a hybrid randomizing function that has strengths of the two randomizing functions and analyze it.

  • Papers on improvement of electromagnetic field uniformity in a reverberation chamber with 1D Quadratic Residue Diffuser of Schroeder method has been published several times. In this paper, to obtain improved electromagnetic field characteristics and field uniformity in a reverberation chamber, cubical residue diffuser sets of Schroeder type are designed for a chamber in $2.3\;\cal{GHz}\~3\;\cal{GHz}$. The FDTD(Finite-Difference Time-Domain) technique is used to analyze the field characteristics in a chamber. Cubical residue algorithm and 2D arrangement show more randomness than the previous study results. The characteristics of tolerance, polarity, deviations, as well as power efficency, are improved with cubical residue diffuser sets in a chamber.

  • It is well known that a considerable amount of scatter is shown in experimental results relating to fatigue crack growth even under identical and constant amplitude cyclic loading conditions. Moreover, flux cored arc welding (FCAW) is a common method used to join thick plates such as the structural members of large scale offshore structures and very large container ships. The objective of this study was to investigate the macro- and microscopic observations of the fatigue crack growth (FCG) behavior of the FCAWed API 2W Gr. 50 steel joints typically applied for offshore structures. In order to clearly understand the randomness of the fatigue crack growth behavior in the materials of three different zones, the weld metal (WM), heat affected zone (HAZ), and base metal (BM), experimental fatigue crack growth tests for each of five specimens were performed on ASTM standard compact tension (CT) specimens under constant amplitude cyclic loading. Special focus was placed on the fatigued fracture surfaces. As a result, a different behavior was observed at the macro-level, depending on the type of material property: BM, HAZ, or WM. The variability in the fatigue crack growth rate for WM was higher than that of BM and HAZ.

  • In CRYPTO 2019, Gohr presents that Deep-learning can be used for cryptanalysis. In this paper, we verify whether Deep-learning can identify the structures of S-box. To this end, we conducted two experiments. First, we use DDT and LAT of S-boxes as the learning data, whose structure is one of mainly used S-box structures including Feistel, MISTY, SPN, and multiplicative inverse. Surprisingly, our Deep-learning algorithms can identify not only the structures but also the number of used rounds. The second application verifies the pseudo-randomness of and structures by increasing the nuber of rounds in each structure. Our Deep-learning algorithms outperform the theoretical distinguisher in terms of the number of rounds. In general, the design rationale of ciphers used for high level of confidentiality, such as for military purposes, tends to be concealed in order to interfere cryptanalysis. The methods presented in this paper show that Deep-learning can be utilized as a tool for analyzing such undisclosed design rationale.

  • Digital image watermarking is a technique for the purpose of protecting the ownership of the image by embedding proprietary watermarks in a digital image. It is required for the digital image watermarking scheme to pursue the robustness against water marking attacks and the perceptual Invisibility more than usual in steganography area, to guarantee not a hidden watermarking algorithm but the publicity of water-marking algorithm details and hidden use of key, which can protect the unauthorized user access from detection. In this paper we propose a new copyright watermarking scheme, which is barred on one-way hash functions using ElGamal functions and modular operations. ElGamal functions are widely used in cryptographic systems. Our watermarking scheme is robust against LSB(least significant bit) attacks and gamma correction attack, and also perceptually invisible. We demonstrate the characteristics of our proposed watermarking scheme through experiments. It is necessary to proceed as the future work the algorithm of achieving at the same time both the pseudo-randomness for the steno-key generation and the asymmetric-key generation.

  • A statistical test was carried out on the IID (Independently and Identically Distributed) assumption of the AM (Annual Maxima) data used to estimate the design wave height. The test was divided into independence (randomness) test and homogeneity test, and each test was conducted on AM data of 210 and 310 stations in coastal and inner coastal grids in typhoon and non-typhoon (monsoon) conditions. As a result of the independence test, the rejection ratios of the test are in the range of 1.8~5.3% and 1.4~6.0% for the non-typhoon and typhoon data sets, respectively. On the other hand, in the distribution difference test of typhoon data and nontyphoon data, the same distribution hypothesis was found to be rejected in the range of 47~79% according to the test method for both coastal grid and inner coastal grid. Therefore, in estimating design wave height by extreme value analysis, the estimation process by dividing the typhoon and non-typhoon data is appropriate.

  • Man has an unconscious desire to free oneself from everyday selves and a strong intellectual desire to see and analyze things in a different perspective. This provided a momentum for architectural design that has long been confined to its limits of modernism of being rational and objective. The ever-changing society that we live in filled with various attempts and pluralistic characteristics shows a complex set of attributes that can hardly be defined by a single term. As society moves towards an uncertain and volatile state, the boundary between literature, philosophy and art has dimmed out and converged. Such tendencies have been observable in recent establishments in architecture in the form of introducing external elements and create an alien and farfetched architectural space. Using the 'depaysement' defamiliarization method expressing irrationality and randomness, it is applied in various aspects, sharing the counter-rational structure and features of such architectural space. Hence, it is the purpose of this study to delve into the unique characteristics of depaysement through Magritte's work which reflects the unique pictorial world built under the influence of surrealism, and discover the $D\acute{e}paysement$ tendencies in modern architectural space. It is apparent in Modern architecture that, owing to the development in digital technology, it is showing process changes in design and an interfacial $D\acute{e}paysement$ effect in cyberspace, an interlace of reality and the virtual world. In this study, the focus of analysis was architectural properties such as the program, figure/spatial, material and the objective side, but due to mutual text properties, it is bound to be an overlapping analysis.

  • We present a classification algorithm based on ant colony system(ACS) for classifying digital images. The ACS has been recently emerged as a useful tool for the pattern recognition, image extraction, and edge detection. The classification algorithm of digital images is very important in the application areas of digital image coding, image analysis, and image recognition because it significantly influences the quality of images. The conventional procedures usually classify digital images with the fixed value for the associated parameters and it requires postprocessing. However, the proposed algorithm utilizing randomness of ants yields the stable and enhanced images even for processing the rapidly changing images. It is also expected that, due to this stability and flexibility of the present procedure, the digital images are stably classified for processing images with various noises and error signals arising from processing of the drastically fast moving images could be automatically compensated and minimized.

  • In this study, the characteristics and mechanism of microwave-assisted drying were investigated to improve the efficiency of the storage and extraction of biomass through the removal of moisture from plant cell Taxus chinensis. The efficiency of microwave-assisted drying increased with increasing microwave power. When the experimental data were fitted to typical drying kinetic models, the page and modified Page models were the most appropriate. The microwave-assisted drying was determined to be a spontaneous endothermic process, and randomness increased during the drying process. The effective diffusion coefficient (3.445 × 10-9~7.163 × 10-7 ㎡/s) and mass transfer coefficient (3.1529 × 10-5~1.2895 × 10-2 m/s) increased with increasing microwave power. The small Biot number (0.3890~0.7198) indicated that the mass transfer process was externally controlled.

  • We investigate an entangled system, which is analogous to a composite system of a black hole and Hawking radiation. If Hawking radiation is well approximated by an outgoing particle generated from pair creation around the black hole, such a pair creation increases the total number of states. There should be a unitary mechanism to reduce the number of states inside the horizon for black hole evaporation. Because the infalling antiparticle has negative energy, as long as the infalling antiparticle finds its partner such that the two particles form a separable state, one can trace out such a zero energy system by maintaining unitarity. In this paper, based on some toy model calculations, we show that such a unitary tracing-out process is only possible before the Page time while it is impossible after the Page time. Hence, after the Page time, if we assume that the process is unitary and the Hawking pair forms a separable state, the internal number of states will monotonically increase, which is supported by the Almheiri-Marolf-Polchinski-Sully (AMPS) argument. In addition, the Hawking particles cannot generate randomness of the entire system; hence, the entanglement entropy cannot reach its maximum. Based on these results, we modify the correct form of the Page curve for the remnant picture. The most important conclusion is this: if we assume unitarity, semi-classical quantum field theory, and general relativity, then the black hole should violate the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy bound around the Page time at the latest; hence, the infinite production arguments for remnants might be applied for semi-classical black holes, which seems very problematic.
