A Study for the Safety Regulation of Tank Car for the Hazardous Material - General Oil Tank Car (위험물 수송 탱크 차량의 국내외 안전기준 비교 연구-유류 차량 중심)

  • Recently, there are so many studies related safety of railway vehicle. But these studies are focused on the passenger car, metro system and high speed train. However, the leakage of hazardous materials may contaminate the environment and cause terrible damage to the ecology, even the human and properties. And so, Safety and security have been already established in many countries, currently they are investing lots of money on the development of technology to prevent accidents. Therefore it is necessary to make a systematic plan and develop safety specifications. In this study, we compared between domestic and international general oil tank car safety regulations for the hazardous materials, and prepare the basic for the making of systematic safety plans and safety regulations for the transport of hazardous materials by tank car.

  • In order to prevent the global warming, Korea has had a ratification to the Kyoto Protocol which is specified the air pollution level should be lower the condition of the year 1990 until the year 2012, in hence the traffic system produced mostly the air pollution has been faced to big change. According to the reinforcement of higher level for environmental condition, alternative way to the conventional traffic system is required, so that is fuel cell technology of commercialized R&D program used by hydrogen fuel, and further for the optimized high energy efficiency it has been considered the advanced development of traffic system used the conventional railroad system. But it is moreover expected the huge amount of initial investment, so at the current, next new traffic system is needed. This study is for the improvement of urban traffic system in domestic which should be seriously changed for environmental friendly through the reduction of air pollution by fuel gases of vehicle and human convenience to be easily approached. In hence it is proposed the development of superior high efficiency-'Fuel-cell Rubber-tired Tram' system manufactured by the composite car-body.

  • Thorough preparations and investigations must be done in order to prevent the hazards which will happen when workers work on the roof of the rolling stocks. Some industrial disasters can be prevented by solving the risks involved in the working of the work processes. Falling accidents tend to happen from the roof of the trains when workers work in the high position. So through the analysis of the 4M( Man. Machine, Media, Management), this paper analyzed the risk factors among the roof works and all problems of the maintenance. Also this paper suggests new devices or new methods to prevent falling disasters and to relieve the mental senses of uneasiness.

  • We studied the cost-volume supply characteristic of public transportation systems focused on Bi-modal Tram in the main cities to analyze the applicability and status for the new transit system Bi-modal Tram as public transportation system. The operation cost considering the characteristic of vehicle, facilities, operation and average cost for respective public transportation system and the time cost considering the travel and transfer time are defined to the social cost, and the cost-volume supply curve is based on this social cost. The cost-volume supply characteristic between public transportation modes in the city is determined on the basis of cost-volume supply curve. Through the comparison between cost-volume supply characteristic of main transportation systems, it is analyzed about the relation between public transportation systems in the city and the characteristic for proper service provision. The application of Bi-modal Tram in the city is concluded that it is effective to reduce the social cost on the existing public transportation system.

  • Faults of rotating parts of a train normally generate unexpected frequency band or impulsive sound[1] which has a period when it moves with a constant speed. The former can be detected by the moving frame acoustic holography method, which visualizes sound field that is generated by a moving and emitting pure tone or band limited noise source. We have attempted to apply the method to the latter case: the periodic impulsive sound which generate different signal compared with what can be measured by the band limited noise. The signal to noise ratio which determines the success of early fault detection must also be studied with the impulsive and moving signal. This research shows how the problems related with these issues can be resolved. The main idea is that periodic impulsive signal can be expressed by infinite set of discrete pure tones. This enables us to obtain lots of holograms that visualize periodic impulsive sound field including noise by using the moving frame acoustic holography method. Therefore holograms can be averaged to improve the signal to noise ratio until having reliable information that exhibits where the impulsive sources are.   • A bi-modal tram has been developed to offer an advanced transportation service compared with existing vehicles. The All-Wheel-Steering system is applied to the bi-modal tram to satisfy the required steering performance because the bi-modal tram has extended length and articulated mechanism. An ECU for the steering system is essential to steer wheels on 2nd and 3rd axles by the specific AWS algorithm with the prescribed driving condition. The Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation(HILS) system is planned for the purpose of evaluating the steering system of the bi-modal tram. There are kinematic links with the hydraulic actuator to steer wheels on each 2nd and 3rd axles and also same steering mechanism as the actual vehicle is in the HILS system. Controlling the movement of hydraulic actuator which reflects the lateral steering reaction force on each wheel is the key to realize the HILS system, but the reaction force is continuously changed according to various driving conditions. Therefore, the simulation through the multi-body dynamics model is used to obtain the required forces.

  • After constructing the high-speed railroad, KORAIL acquired advanced maintenance techniques about Rolling-stocks. Also RCM theory is applied to maintenance field like as inspection period and method. In the meantime, the development of the maintenance methode for Rolling-stock is slow when it compares to the components and system technology. For this reason KORAIL tries to build the optimal maintenance system which can lead the Rolling-stock maintenance technique. The existing vehicle except High Speed train KTX are separated to electric motor car, electric locomotive, diesel locomotive, diesel car, passenger car and freight car. The inspection period and methode for existing vehicles which mentioned above will be examined and the optimal Rolling-stock maintenance technique will be applied.

  • Vibration caused by railroad vehicle including subway train running raises a lot of problems to the neighboring buildings. Therefore lots of methods to isolate the railway vibration have been studied and practically applied to sites. As one of them, specially designed vibration isolation device was installed in the some section of Seoul subway. This device is installed between the rail and track slab. Because the process of installation is relatively simple, this method can be applied to the existing railways in servicing. We measured the vibration and noise to check the effectiveness of this device before and after the installation. The result showed that the vibration level of the slab and platform was reduced to 7 - 10 dB. Expecially high frequency component was reduced to a large amount. From this result, we can conclude that these kind of devices are useful to the reduction of the railroad vibration, expecially the high frequency vibration which can cause structure born noise.

  • In electric motor coaches, the rolling stocks move by the adhesive effort between rail and driving wheel. Generally, the adhesive effort is defined by the function of both the weight of electric motor coach and the adhesive effort between rails and driving wheel. The characteristics of adhesive effort is strongly affected by the conditions between rails and driving wheel. When the adhesive effort decreases suddenly, the electric motor coach has slip phenomena. This paper proposes a re-adhesion control algorithm which uses the maximum adhesive effort by instantaneous estimation of adhesion force using load torque disturbance observer. Based on this estimated adhesive effort, the re-adhesion control is performed to obtain the maximum transfer of the tractive effort.

  • This paper proposes a new anti-slip re-adhesion control system fur electric railway vehicle driven by inverter-fed induction motors. This paper introduces an instantaneous tangential farce coefficient estimator between driving wheel and rail, which is based on disturbance observer. The torque command of proposed system regulates to exceed this estimated tangential farce coefficient in order to avoid undesirable slip phenomenon of driving wheels. We have already proposed the anti-slip re-adhesion control system based on disturbance observer for simplified one wheel equivalent model successfully. This paper extend to this system to the actual bogie system, which has four driving wheels driven by two induction motors fed by one inverter. In order to apply anti-slip re-adhesion control to the actual bogie system a new anti-slip re-adhesion control based on both disturbance observer and speed sensor-less vector control of induction motor with quick response are combined. The experimental results and the numerical simulation results prove the validity of the proposed control system.
