  • South Korea has more than two-thirds of the land consists of mountainous terrain. It is necessary to enable the recycling of mountain tourism policy to allow people to use. This paper studied Bukhansan where there seems to have the most economical efficiency and effectiveness as an alternative means of transportation applying user'swillingnessto pay by age based upon the Study on Introduction Bukhansan Mountain Railway which was progressed as part of the balanced national development and railway promotion strategy. The Analyisis results are shown that cost-benefit ratio is Lim 0.73 and rack & pinion 0.8. The rack-and-pinion method is selected as an applicable alternative. If the new technologies are developed and made part of the construction of the tunnel route was judged as possible as an alternative way LIM

  • After the Rio declaration on environment and development in 1992, developed countries are undertaking 'environmentally sustainable transportation (EST)' projects. To meet the needs for EST, current transportation policies in Korea are rapidly reforming and one of its concerns is modernizing and upgrading railway freight system. Planning new railroad construction projects is increasing and subsequent environmental impact assessment (EIA) demands improvements, especially in both the EIA and decision making systems. In this paper, we discuss the present status of EIA for railroad construction projects, especially, by analyzing the EIA documents accumulated for last six years. The EIA for railroad construction projects .accounts for only $4.9\%$ of total project EIAs during 1998-2003. However, the portion is gradually increasing. Major environmental concerns for EIA in railroad construction projects were geomorphological and ecological changes, protection of rare organisms, air pollution, water quality, wast management, noise, etc. We also compared the characteristics of environmental impacts of railroad construction with those of vehicle road construction. The result shows that railroad construction usually requires 3${\~}$4 times longer tunnels and bridges for a given length than vehicle road construction. In addition, the amounts of geomorphological and ecological changes (road-cutting, embankment, devegetation, etc.) in railroad construction were generally less than $40\%$ of those in vehicle road construction. In order to develop environmentally friendly railway systems, monitoring studies for environmental impacts of railroads such as habitat fragmentation and road kills, dispersal of alien plants, tunnelling effects on groundwater and vegetation, and noise impacts are highly required.

Major environmental concerns for EIA in railroad construction projects were geomorphological and ecological changes, protection of rare organisms, air pollution, water pollution, waste management, and noise, etc. We compared characteristics of environmental impacts of railroad construction with those of vehicle road construction, based on environmental and construction-planning indicators appeared in Environmental Impact Statements. Railroad construction usually requires longer tunnels and bridges for a given length than those for vehicle road construction. In addition, the amounts of geomorphological and ecological changes (road-cutting, embankment, devegetation, etc.) in railroad construction were generally less than 50% of those in vehicle road construction. To develop environmentally friendly railway systems, monitoring studies for environmental impacts of railroads such as habitat fragmentation and road kills, dispersal of alien plants, tunnelling effects on groundwater and vegetation, and noise impacts are highly recommended.

  • Permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance motors (PMa-SynRM) show higher efficiency and power density compared to conventional induction motors for high speed railroad traction systems. Furthermore, 5-phase PMa-SynRMs have lower torque ripple and higher power density than 3-phase systems. Therefore, the 5-phase PMa-SynRM is suitable for high-speed railway traction systems. In this study, 3kw 3-phase and 5-phase PMa-SynRM models were optimized using lumped parameter model and genetic algorithm, and their characteristics were compared. The optimized models are fine-tuned using finite element analysis. The final models of the 3-phase and 5-phase PMa-SynRMs are fabricated and tested to verify the analysis results.

  • In this study, the strength of magnesium-GFRP/epoxy single-lap bonded joints are experimentally evaluated with different end shapes. In order to achieve this, four different single-lap joints with different end shapes are fabricated and the failure load is measured under tensile loading tests. From the test results, the single-lap joint with a square end exhibits the lowest failure load while the single-lap joint with reverse tapering and a spew fillet has the highest stress values. It has 11.1% higher failure strength than the single-lap joint with a square end.

  • Since many resources are put into the work of changing the railway operation within limited time, it is important to have a specific work plan and safety management. For this reason, the work schedule is shared in advance, and parallel work is being carried out simultaneously by rail system, such as tracks, trolly wires, and signals. However, due to the nature of the transfer work, the work is carried out at night when the railway operation is finished, and many resources are put into the limited area of the operating line, so the risk of safety accidents and failure to change the operating line is recognized as high. Nevertheless, there is still not enough research done in korea regarding the operation line change construction. Therefore, this study is conducted a survey on the track exchange work of railroad for working people, and analyzed the results of the survey. Finally, a standard work process was suggested to reduce the risk of track exchange work.

  • Urban air quality, including carbon-dioxide emissions, and national energy security are related issues affecting the rail industry and transportation sector as a whole. They are related by the fact that (in the United States) 97-98% of the energy for the transport sector is based on oil, and more than 60% is imported. A fuelcell locomotive combines the environmental advantages of a catenary-electric locomotive with the higher overall energy efficiency and lower infrastructure costs of a diesel-electric. Catenaryelectric locomotives, when viewed as only one component of a distributed machine that includes an electricity-generating plant and transmission lines, are the least energy-efficient locomotive type. The natural fuel for a fuelcell is hydrogen, which can be produced from many renewable energies and nuclear energy, and thus a hydrogen-fuelcell locomotive will not depend on imported oil for its energy supply. This paper proposes a base models of Hybrid fuel cell/IPT railway vehicle power system, the necessary of this research.

  • In this paper, we investigate the scheme to improve the position accuracy using GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System). Then we configure the real-time DGPS environment with use of NTRIP currently being in service on the DGNSS central office of MLTM(Ministry of Land and Transportation). And we verify the improvement of position accuracy and the continuity of GPS correction data through the DGPS test in Chungbuk line and Joongang line.

  • The carbody of the Korean Rubber Tired AGT is small size and light weight comparing to existing electric railcars. For this reasons, car shape and arrangement of major equipments are limited. AGT is newly adopted mass transportation system in Korea. Therfore, it should be desined to appeal to passengers and create new passenger demand. To achieve this goal, the design concept of carbody is to be new design to coincide with passengers emotions. In this regard, we tried to meet this trends through manufacturing of scaled models and being

  • The speed up of conventional lines feel strongly the necessity of it, for fully realizing a role of transportation system, for human life style is high, and increasing of time value. Especially curved lines zone have crucial effects on the speed of train. In this study, the extension method of transition curve is evaluated, based on the alignment of Jang-Hang line, investigated field conditions of the sections where the curves exist. The result of this research is very applicable to the condition where it is difficult to over-all alignment improvements.
