Development of a Novel Methodology for DC Railway Power Network Analysis Based on Participation Factor

  • Urban DC railways have played an important role in urban transportation, and railway operation and energy management have been emphasized to be important to achieve maximum efficiency from existing infrastructure. Fast, accurate DC railway power flow analysis is required to operate a DC railway efficiently, and this paper proposes a novel methodology to analyze the DC railway power network by implementing the participation factor (PF). The PF concept consists of a correlation between the vehicle and the substation, as explained using zones based on the position of the vehicles running on the route. Then, the DC railway powerflow is calculated using the PF concept. Finally, the usability of the proposed method was validated via case studies with actual railway operation data, and we discuss some of the advantages of the suggested methodology.

  • Recently remote sensing technology is applied for construction projects planning and design areas by use of remote sensed satellite images according to engineering application technology in the various experimental tasks. In this study, It was applied for 3 dimensional terrain analysis and basic design by comparing to present railway and new expand doble-tract railway route of forest sites on the new construction site of 15km at national railway lines, and then showed 3-D perspective images and fly simulation images to possibility for various application as terrain analysis modeling and running simulation at the course. As a results of its applied, It gained the results not only improvement of present methods but also real various application possibilities.

  • To maintain the stability during the operation of railway vehicle, the perfect installation of rail, namely the orbit as well as the performance of the railway vehicle itself is required. The orbit of railway needs the intensity and elasticity that stands the shock and vibration due to the weight of the railway vehicle enough. Also, the driving safety during the operation of vehicle should be guaranteed, comfortable feeling of the passenger should be maintained, and the influence of the noise and vibration to the environs should be minimized. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a program that calculates the change of construction cost according to the selection of railway orbit. This study introduces the orbit design automation program according to the selection of railway orbit, and discuss the principle and the way to use of the program.

A Study on Proper Station Spacing in Urban Railway (도시철도에서의 적정 역간거리에 관한 연구)

  • Railway stations are important facilities for transport of passengers and freights. The location of station have an effect on the efficiency of railway transport and operation. In this study, an inspection of the primary factors for station spacing in urban railway has been performed and a review for the propriety of the present states and further improvement has been carried. It may be helpful for proper decisions on the route planning in urban railway. Primary factors for station spacing are 1)train capacity, 2)competitiveness with other transportation, 3)accessibility and 4)construction cost, which is out of consideration in the inspection. From the result of this study, the proper station spacing is about 600m for the accessibility, more over 1.03km for the train capacity and more over 1.4km for the competitiveness with other transportation.

  • Railway companies have been faced with many changes in the railway environment. To cope immediately with the influence of environment and to improve productivity, an efficient train operation system and related core technologies must be introduced. The railway system is composed of large scale infrastructures and high-cost trains. Simulation method is one of core technologies and also efficient tool for planning and analyzing these kinds of complex system. In this research, we review basic simulation programming models and present a modeling for the elements of railway system such as rail-line infrastructure, train, time table and operational route. Additionally, some considerations on the development of multi-train traffic simulator for KyongBu-line are discussed.

  • The railway system is composed of large scale infrastructures and high-cost trains. For planning and analyzing this kind of complex system, simulation method can be used for efficient tool.   • This study is about developing a transit assignment model on railway network. Current transit assignment models are mainly focused on road or urban transportation so that these models, for example, transit assignment model based on optimal strategy generates unrealistic transit assignment. Especially, since the advent of KTX, more passengers are using the transfer route containing KTX but most transit assignment models have a shortcoming that transfer is not considered or is overestimated. We present a new stochastic transit assignment model based on LOGIT considering transfer resistance.

  • This study examined EM compatibility between noise from electric railway and signal of ILS in the case that an AC double track system is located about 1km far from end zone of runway at the airport. ILS is the most major equipment to help give airplane route during the landing.

  • The railway signaling system consists of microcomputerized vital devices on board and ground, which are connected to one another by track circuits, and interlocking equipment for route control. Therefore it is important to validate the required functions of developed system and interface between developed signaling systems. To verify the conditions and functions of signaling logic, the laboratory prototype test bench, which consists of personal computers with software module and Ethernet LAN, will be developed. In this paper general design of signaling system test bench for high-speed rail is described and developed software module is presented.

  • Many changes in the railway environment has directly affected to the railway company. To cope immediately with the influence of environment and to promote productivity, the railway company has to introduce an efficient train operation system and related core technologies. The railway system is composed or large-scale infrastructures ann high-cost trains. Simulation method is one or core technologies and also is efficient tool for planning and analyzing this kind of complex system. The purpose of this research is to develop multi-train traffic simulator considering high-speed train for GyongBu-Line. To achieve this objective, the elements of railway system was analyzed, and as a result, a data structure modeling for the railway system such as rail-Tine infrastructure, rain, timetable and operational route is presented. The developed simulator is composed of three major part : input-module, main-module, and output module. The concept and brief explanation of each module will be treated.
