  • It is known that bogie frame must have sufficient stiffness for car body and passenger weight and transfer traction and braking force, and as of today most studies and verifications are restricted to static and fatigue analysis for force acted on bogie frame. Bogie frame is mounted with equipments to control the signal, traction and so on, this equipment's behavior is subjected to vibration mode occurs on running condition. If the resonance occurs on this equipment, the possibility of crack occurrence on bracket connected with equipment and bogie frame will be increased. In this paper, the method of vibration strength verification for bracket attached on bogie frame will be introduced by using frequency response method.

  • This paper has evaluated the fatigue strength of a tilting bogie frame for the Korean tilting train. We have established the loading combinations for the tilting bogie frame based on the UIC standard because there are no standards for the tilting train. For this study, we have derived 31 load cases to consider tilting effect. Then, we have performed the static and fatigue analysis. From this study, we can make sure the safety of the tilting bogie.

  • This paper describes the result of structure analysis and load test of bogie frame. The purpose of the analysis and test is to evaluate an safety which bogie frame shall be considered fully sufficient rigidity so as to satisfy proper system function under maximum load. Bogie system consist of bogie frame, suspensions, wheel-sets, brake system and transmission system. Among these component, the bogie frame is most significant component subjected to the vehicle and passenger loads. The evaluation method is used the JIS E 4207 specification throughout the FEM analysis and static load test. The test results have been very safety and stable for design load conditions.

  • In development of the bogie, the fatigue strength of the bogie frame is an important design criteria. Also the bogie frame weight reduction is required in order to save energy and materials. In this study. structural analysis of bogie frame by using the finite element method has been performed for the various loading conditions according to the UIC standards and it has been attempted minimize the weight of bogie frame by back-propagation neural network and genetic algorithm. Finite element mesh generation and finite element analysis were performed by Altaire Hyper Mesh and ABAQUS.

  • 본 논문은 국내에서 개발중인 모노레일 대차 프레임에 대해 구조 안전성 및 피로강도를 평가하였다. 현재 모노레일 대차 프레임에 대한 평가기준은 없는 실정이며, 이에 구조 안전성 및 피로강도 평가는 유럽규격인 UIC 615-4 기준을 적용하여 수행하였다. 이때, 설계된 대차 프레임에 대해 각 하중조건에서의 변위 및 Von-Mises 응력 결과를 통해 구조 안전성을 평가하였다. 그리고 피로강도는 UIC 615-4 기준의 규정에 따라 조합 주 운용하중조건에 의해 평가되고, 일괄처리 기능을 갖는 winLIFE v3.1을 이용한 피로해석 결과와 비교 검증하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 설계된 대차 프레임은 구조적 안전성 및 피로강도를 만족하였으며, 일괄처리 기능을 갖는 피로해석은 조합하중을 이용한 기존 피로해석보다 더 효율적임을 확인하였다.

  • Rotem Company has designed and manufactured bogie for Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) according to the European standard UIC615-4, which si normally used for designing bogie frame. Because the countries located in Middle East do not have their own regulations for bogie design, most of running bogies in Middle East are designed by using European standard UIC615-4. UIC615-4 specifies the loads that bogie frame should withstand, indicates the way of material data to be used and the principles to be during verification by analysis and test. The bogie frame depends on the load conditions and magnitudes which are subjected to during service and characteristics of materials they are manufactured from. From the above reason, Rotem Company has performed Finite Element Analysis and load tests on the bogie frame according to UIC615-4. This research contains the results obtained by the analysis and the load tests. Also, this research verifies that the bogie frame has a static strength and fatigue strength. The analysis is carried out using I-DEAS 12 NX Series and specially designed test jigs and equipment are used for the load tests.

  • This paper investigated strength of a bogie frame for Korean tilting train that is being developed in KRRI. In this study, static load tests based on Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) were performed. In order to simulate vertical and lateral components generated by tilting link mechanism, four hydraulic actuators were used. The eight load cases such as vertical, lateral, traction, braking and driving gear loads were applied for evaluation of the strength of bogie frame. The stresses measured at the stress concentration points were assessed using Goodman diagram. From the experimental results, structural safety of the bogie frame could be ensured.

  • we studied the structural weak areas of an electric car bogie frame by finite element analysis. The bogie frame under consideration is a part of the standard electric car with aluminium car body. Vertical, torsional. lateral and longitudinal loadings were applied. Numerical results were compared with the experimental results. The two results are in a good agreement.

  • Generally, bogie frame for EMU consists of side frame, crossbeam and transom. Among the main frame structure which has been produced in our company, crossbeam and transom have been made of circular shaped tube. In this un, welding process between circular crossbeam and circular transom is complicated and takes much time. To improve this problem, new rectangular tube shaped transom is adopted. In this paper, the processes and results of finite element analysis are described, which was carried out to evaluate the strength of new bogie frame according to UIC, JIS, KS code. FEA results show that the new bogie frame has sufficient static and fatigue strength. Comparing the FEA results with load test results should follow and further study for evaluating the fatigue strength will be pursued in future.
