The bi-modal tram guided by the magnetic guidance system has two car-bodies and three axles. Each axle of the vehicle has an independent suspension to lower the floor of the car and improve ride quality. The turning radius of the vehicle may increase as a consequence of the long wheel base. Therefore, the vehicle is equipped with the All-Wheel-Steering(AWS) system for safe driving on a curved road. Front and rear axles should be steered in opposite directions, which means a negative mode, to minimize the turning radius. On the other hand, they also should be steered in the same direction, which means a positive mode, for the stopping mode. Moreover, only the front axle is steered for stability of the vehicle upon high-speed driving. In summary, steering angles and directions of the each axle should be changed according to the driving environment and steering mode. This paper proposes an appropriate AWS control algorithm for stable driving of the bi-modal tram. Furthermore, a multi-body model of the vehicle is simulated to verify the suitability of the algorithm. This model can also analyze the different dynamic characteristics between 2WS and AWS.
EMS-type Maglev vehicle maintains constant levitation air-gap between electromagnet and guideway by using gap sensor. The other words, when Maglev vehicles levitating over the guideway, mass of the vehicle effects through 1st (electromagnetic air-gap control) and 2nd (air-spring) suspension to grider. Resonace between electromagnetic suspension and grider could be occurred, which causes instability and poor ridecomfort. This paper is to test the dymanic interaction between levitation air-gap and switching system grider that has less mass and high natural frequencies than other type of general girders.
The irregularities in the guideways used in the Maglev transportation system that result from surface roughness and deflection of guideway have strong effects on the dynamic characteristics of Maglev vehicles, because the electromagnetic suspension of Maglev vehicles strongly interacts with the guideway. For this reason, a numerical prediction of air gap responses to these irregularities is desirable to improve aspects of running performance, such as stability and passenger comfort, while minimizing aesthetic impact and construction cost. This paper presents a procedure to predict the air gap response which is a criteria for stability, and investigates the responses with the goal of attaining higher travel speeds in the urban Maglev vehicle UTM-01 utilizing electromagnetic suspension.

In an EMS (Electromagnetic suspension)-type Maglev (Magnetically-levitated) vehicle, the flexibility of the bogie frame may affect the acceleration of the electromagnet that is input into the control system, which could lead to instability in some cases. For this reason, it is desirable to consider bogie frame flexibility in air gap simulations, for the optimization of bogie structure. The objective of this paper is to develop a flexible multibody dynamic model of 1/2 of an EMS-type Maglev vehicle that is under testing, and to compare the air gap responses obtained from the rigid and the flexible body model. The feedback control system and electromagnet models that are unique to the EMS-type maglev vehicle must be included in the model. With this model, dynamics simulations are carried out to predict the air gap responses from the two models, of the rigid and flexible model, and the air gaps are compared. Such a comparative study could be useful in the prediction of the air gap in the design stage, and in designing an air gap control system.

The carbody underframe of TTX vehicle should be modified a lot for the installation of new devices such as an active suspension system between the bogie and the carbody of TTX vehicle, because the carbody underframe is one body structure consisting of a center sill welded with a carbody bolster. Modification operation of the carbody takes a lot of time and cost, because the huge sized carbody structure should be moved to a machining apparatus and machined to guarantee the manufacture accuracy of new device installation brackets. For this reason, modification operation improvement is needed to install new devices more efficiently between the bogie and the carbody. This paper introduce the development of 'bogie/carbody interface bolster' that not only supports the carbody weight but also enables new devices to be installed more efficiently between the bogie and the carbody. This development has advantage to reduce working time and cost to install new devices such as an active suspension system between the bogie and the carbody by minimizing the modification of the carbody of TTX vehicle.

Computer simulation is essential to design the suspension elements of railway vehicle. By computer simulation, engineers can assess the feasibility of given design variables and chance them to get a bettor design. Even though commercial simulation codes are used, the computational time and cost remains non-trivial. Therefore, malty researchers have used a mesa model made by sampling data through simulation. In this paper, four mesa-models for each index group such as ride comfort, derailment Quotient, unloading radio and stability index, are constructed by use of neural network. After these meta models are constructed, multi-objective optimization are achieved by using the differential evolution. This paper shows that the optimization of design variables using the neural network model is very efficient to solve the complex optimization Problem.
Since Maglev vehicle is run over an elevated guideway, the vibrational characteristics of guideway affect the running behavior of the vehicle and guideway. Since Maglev vehicle is run over an elevated guideway, the structural properties of guideways affect the running behavior of the vehicle and guideway. The design of a guideway has a strong effect on the costs of constructing guideways, therefore optimized design of the guideway satisfying running performance is needed for the commercialization of the Maglev vehicle. With an analysis program for dynamics of Maglev vehicles, the dynamic responses of the Maglev vehicle with electromagnet suspension are numerically analyzed according to changes in fundamental modal damping ratio of a guideway.
An air spring was accepted for rail vehicle secondary suspension to reduce and absorb tile vibration and the noise. The air spring for the electric railway was developed with domestic technology, which consisted of a cord reinforced rubber bellows, a upper plate, a lower plate and a stopper rubber spring The fatigue test was conducted in laboratory by using servo hydraulic fatigue testing system to verify the durability. And to guarantee the adaptation of this air spring, the ride comfort and the air pressure variation were measured in train test on Boondang line.
The running safety of a railway vehicle depends on the design parameters and contact condition between wheel and rail. In this study, the effect of the conicity of wheel tread is analyzed using ADAMS/RAIL software on running situation. Modal analysis shows in 0.6 Hz natural frequency of lateral mode in fully arranged the KTX cars. The excessive vibration of the tail cars occurs in the 17th car as the speed and the stiffness of the secondary suspension increases, and especially for 1/40 conicity of the GV40 wheel. Also, the analysis shows that combination of wheel profile, GV40 for power cars and XP55 for passenger cars can reduce the lateral vibration of the tail cars.
