Turnout is a mechanical installation enabling railway trains to be guided from one track to another at a railway junction. A movable nose crossing frog is a device used at a railway turnout to eliminate the gap at the common crossing (High manganese, block, assembly crossing)which can cause impact damage, noise and vibration. Our government has a plan speed up of conventional line to 250km/h semi-high speed. We had already developed flexible turnout with fixed crossing(High manganese) and SFC fastening system can cover in the semi-high speed line In this study is about development of the movable nose crossing turnout available Semi-high speed line on concrete track. This paper describes about geometry, attack angle, bending stress at the nose, switching force, safety of continuous welded long rails. This movable nose crossing turnout is expected greatly increases passing speed of turnout in national railway.
The major objective of this study is to investigate the fatigue life evaluation of immovability crossing for railway turnout by the field test. In railway engineering, an appliance is necessary to allow a vehicle to move from one track to another. This appliance came to be known technically as turnout. So, turnout is required very complex railway technologies such as rolling stock, track. Due to the plan under the application of high speed train, turnout are needed more stable far fatigue behaviors. It analyzed the mechanical behaviors of turnout crossing with propose its advanced technical type on the field test and fatigue evaluation far the dynamic fatigue characteristics. As a result, the advanced type crossing are obviously effective for the fatigue damage ratio and dynamic response which is non-modified type. The analytical and experimental study are carried out to investigate the passing path of contact surface and fatigue damage trend decrease dynamic stresses and deflections on advanced crossing type, And the advanced type reduce dynamic fatigue damage ratio and increase fatigue life(about each 38%) more than non-modified type. From the field test results of the servicing turnout crossing, it is evaluated that the modification of contact angle, weight, material and sectional properties is very effective fur ensure against fatigue risks.
The major objective of this study is to investigate the dynamic behavior evaluation of split PC sleepers for railway turnout by the field test. In railway engineering, a turnout is necessary to allow a vehicle to move from one track to another. So, turnout is required very complex railway technologies such as lolling stock, track. In reference to conventional line speed-up and improvement railway, accurate assembly of turnout affects travel ins qualify of turnout area and running safety. Because of heavy weight and a large volume of the long sleeper used to turnout and car limit, transport and the prerequisite for trouble-free transport of the factory pre-assembled major turnout components is achieved through division of long sleepers. The one of the advantages for using a split sleeper is to reduce the dynamic vibration according to the information of developed nations. Therefore, we investigate the characteristic of dynamic behaviors of split sleepers which are adopted for the first time to improve performance of turnout From the field test results of the split sleeper, it is evaluated that the modification of weight, material and stiffness compared with wood sleeper is very effective for the ballast safety. However, the decrease in vibration of split sleeper was not found out.
The concrete track is being used at the Phase II of the Kyeongbu High Speed Railway and New Constructed Honam High Speed Railway. When it makes a decision of bridge type, It has to consider about longitudinal forces of Continuous Welded Rail, Displacement at the end of bridges, Up-lift forces for fastener on the track. If it is installed turnout on the bridge, There is likelihood of the deck twist by applying the each difference longitudinal forces at the 4 each rails and the buckling by concentration of rail stress at the turnout. Moreover, If it is installed turnout on the continuous bridge and REJ(Rail Expansion Joint) on the main track or turnout track. It is hard to keep a safety for rail because of coming to twist or folding at the expansion of deck on the turnout track. Therefore when it is a design of bridge with turnout. It need to take bridge type to minimize an additional axial force and a displacement at the turnout. This paper makes a study of the composite steel arch bridge that is able to resolve criteria requirements of safety for track with turnout and suggest a helpful design method for bridge considering track with turnout by being based on design and construction method of Eonyang Bridge at the north part of Ulsan Station in Phase II of the Kyeongbu High Speed Railway.

Special track systems used to divert a train to other directions or other tracks are generally called 'railway turnout'. A traditional turnout system consists of steel rails, switches, crossings, steel plates, fasteners, screw spikes, timber bearers, ballast and formation. The wheel rail contact over the crossing transfer zone has a dip-like shape and can often cause detrimental impact loads on the railway track and its components. The large impact also emits disturbing noises (either impact or ground-borne noise) to railway neighbors. In a brown-field railway track where an existing aged infrastructure requires renewal or maintenance, some physical constraints and construction complexities may dominate the choice of track forms or certain components. With the difficulty to seek for high-quality timbers with dimensional stability, a methodology to replace aged timber bearers in harsh dynamic environments is to adopt an alternative material that could mimic responses and characteristics of timber in both static and dynamic loading conditions. A critical review has suggested an application of an alternative material called fibre-reinforced foamed urethane (FFU). The full-scale capacity design makes use of its comparable engineering characteristics to timber, high-impact attenuation, high damping property, and a longer service life. A field trial to investigate in-situ behaviours of a turnout grillage system using an alternative material, 'fibre-reinforced foamed urethane (FFU)' bearers, has been carried out at a complex turnout junction under heavy mixed traffics at Hornsby, New South Wales, Australia. The turnout junction was renewed using the FFU bearers altogether with new special track components. Influences of the FFU bearers on track geometry (recorded by track inspection vehicle 'AK Car'), track settlement (based on survey data), track dynamics, and acoustic characteristics have been measured. Operational train pass-by measurements have been analysed to evaluate the effectiveness of the replacement methodology. Comparative studies show that the use of FFU bearers generates higher rail and sleeper accelerations but the damping capacity of the FFU help suppress vibration transferring onto other track components. The survey data analysis suggests a small vertical settlement and negligible lateral movement of the turnout system. The static and dynamic behaviours of FFU bearers appear to equate that of natural timber but its service life is superior.
When a vehicle passes through turnout, it is required to minimize the changes of lateral force for running safety of vehicle. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze interaction between the vehicle and the turnout in order to estimate the lateral force and the derailment coefficient on the turnout. In this paper, analysis model of the vehicle and turnout are established and analysis is carried out when the vehicle passes through turnout in order to improve running safety of the vehicle on turnout. To verify the vehicle and turnout analysis model, the contact points between wheel and rail and the influence of changing cradle and tongue rail are also discussed.
In railway systems, the performance of turnout is one of the most important factors to improve the train's speed. Standard turnout, in which one track is split in main track side and turnout side. Because the main track side remains linear, speed restriction can be alleviated while train pass the main track side. The factors of speed restriction in main track side are strength of crossing and tongue rail, wheel back side pressure of guard rail and wing rail. In this study, we measured wheel back side pressure of guard rail to compare improved turnout with present turnout. In result, the wheel back side pressure of improved turnout was lower than present turnout, so its performance was proved.
Most of design parameters of Railway Structures are determined by the serviceability requirements, rather than the structural safety requirements. The serviceability requirements come from Ensuring of Running Safety and Ride Comfort of Train, Reduction of Track Maintenance Work Track-Bridge Interaction should be considered in the design of railway structures. In this study, a numerical method which precisely evaluate an axial force in rail and a rail expansion and contraction when turnout exist in succession on a CWR on a ballasted or on a ballastless track of bridge is developed. From the parameter studies using the developed method, additional stress of stock rail almost 25% is generated due to stock and lead rail interaction, even embankment not bridge. In case of ballasted track, additional stress of stock rail on bridge is very greater than on embankment, and therefore require detailed review in bridge design with turnout. Stresses of turnout rails on bridge are very sensitive according to the installed positions. In case of ballastless track, Stresses of turnout rails are similar as those of normal track
