  • Effort has been given to improve demand forecast methodology of rail system since it can have great impact on project evaluation of rail system investment. However most of demand forecast softwares developed in western countries where concerns have been provided mostly to private transport and they should be updated in order to reflect our country's situation accurately. Therefore, this paper aims, especially focusing on rail system, to do comparison analysis of oversea's passenger demand forecast softwares and provide some ideas to develop the updated demand forecast system which enables to reflect our country's situation accurately. Main conclusions are that we will need to have well described model for real situation. So we will have to study for these aspects for travel demand forecasting system and develop the package architecture.

  • AGT(Automated Guide-way Transit System) was introduced to satisfy the every increasing need for improved urban transportation. The AGT system is classified as medium distance and demand capacity mass transit being introduced for such area with inadequate passenger demand for railway construction but excessive demand for bus service. To decrease initial investment cost it is important that we have to secure the technology system of Light Rail Transit for Korea environment. By utilizing the finite element analysis, the result in this paper is enough to satisfy the strength whish is required. Also for the purpose of safety, it is decided the thickness and frame structure of the undeframe section through the analysis. It is known that carbody is no problem for required design conditions.

  • THE THERE HAS BEEN AN INCREASING DEMAND FOR THE NOISE IMPACT ASSESMENT BY HIGH-SPEED TRAINS DUE TO THE EXPANSION OF HIGH-SPEED RAILWAY. THIS PAPER PROVIDES STRATEGIES FOR THE EVALUATION AND THE ASSESSMENT OF THE POTENTIAL NOISE IMPACT RESULTING FROM PROPOSED HIGH-SPEED RAILWAY.   • The down town passage segment which follows in the straight line which follows recently in high speed of the railway and rail construction is increasing. Also according to quality of life improvement of the citizens whom follows in national income increase the resident demand only becomes larger day by day about a environmental creation which is comfortable and house environmental etc. Demand of the citizens is not the problem of today yesterday about like this railway mean of transportation and with the fact that continuously will increase in future. This study is to predict and reduce railway noise from the conventional PSC-beam bridges which passes through urban areas under the government strateges of speed and weight increases of railway. The purpose of this study is to recommend a proper noise prediction method for designing pleasant roadside environments. The railway design including existing line reconstructions should minimize curved alignment to increase train speed to 180~200km/hr under the government's long-term planing such as the 4th Comprehensive National Development Plan (2000~2020), National Intermodal Transportation Plan (2000~2019) and National Railroad Network Establishment Plan (2006~2015), Since the PSC-beam bridges are mainly used for bridge structures urban areas, noise measurements were performed and analyzed to recommend the noise prediction methods for each type and speed of train respectively.

  • The Seoul metropolitan area is generated the transportation problems of traffic congestion, delay of travel time, etc due to the increase of traffic demand at Seongnam area, Koyang/Paju area, Incheon/Bucheon area, etc, because that have not provided the urban surrounding railway network and live to be concentrated about 49% of the population of Korea. The Koyang/Paju route axis is required the urban surrounding railway network because the share percentage of public transportation is 51%, the automobiles is 48.8% and the subway is 27.3% and the housing development plan for 530,000 persons have provided. According to the result of the study for the introduction of the express railway between Kangnam to Ilsan of 37.8Km, in case of operation of 150Kmm at express railway, the scheduled speed between Kangnam to Ilsan is 103Km/h, the running time is about 23 minutes. The demand of traffic of this project was forecasted about 237,000persons by traffic analysis. This project which was analysed B/C of 1.08 by the result of the feasibility study have a economic feasibility.

  • It is very difficult to find optimal train operation plan when analyzing the economic investment using traditional railroad travel demand estimation method. Train operation plan depends on travel demand and vice versa. To solve this problem, this study suggests a demand estimation method to address an optimal train operation scheme with the modal spilt using initial train operation plan and trip assignment.

  • A diversity of railway network function enhancement projects such as the double tracking, electrification, and direct operation have been actively executed to improve the railway service. When the new rapid transit is provided, how many people will use it instead of other transports? How will the railway choice behavior be changed? Accordingly, in this paper, the applicability of diverted travel demand forecast methods, by Revealed Preference(RP) and Stated Preference(SP) data was reviewed for Daegu metropolitan rail rapid transit service. As the result of combining RP and SP data, including the sequential and simultaneous approach, the total travel time and travel cost parameters are of the right sign and are highly significant. The simultaneous approach is more efficient in terms of the estimation of coefficients. In particular, methods to improve validity of the Mixed RP/SP models, when RP data is used proportionally, the diverted travel demand can be easily identified by railway fare and travel time service level. Therefore, it is considered that this will practically apply even in other regions as well as Daegu metropolitan railway.

An Empirical Study of Light Railway Transit Ridership using Socio-economic Data Based on Block Group Level (소지역단위 사회경제지표를 활용한 경전철 역별 수요분석 방안 연구 - 실증분석 중심으로 -)

  • A direct demand model requires relatively little analysis time and incurs a low cost. It is also known to be useful for the preliminary screening of promising configurations or concepts. This study reviews direct demand models of 12 existing urban railways using demographic data based on a block group level which is approximately 1/24 of a traditional zone area. However, direct demand models are limited. Therefore, a new approach is suggested. The proposed method is based on a field study and an empirical analysis. The study finds factors that affect ridership at the station level. As a case study, the proposed approach is tested using 54 light railway transit stations. The results of this empirical study demonstrate its applicability to improve the error rates of the predicted ridership at the station level.

  • The purposes of this primary study are the selection of rail station and train operation management techniques for express-rail operation service at the convectional railway electrification. For these analyses, we used the KNR statistics and KROIS data of rail stations and train users by rail line. Therefore, we chose the important stations for express-rail operation of Kyongbu conventional rail line (esp. Seoul-Jochiwon section) through the rail transportation demand. and then, suggested primary operational management plan thorough the effects analyses of decreasing total travel time and increasing transportation demand by train speed-up. This study has some bounds and limits for proceeding, as it does, we excluded as followings: the conditionals of fate system, headways and train diagram, economic/financial analysis and technological assessment, and other railway technological infrastructures and a certain railcar specification, etc. . We propose to enlarge this study into a feasibility study of express or skip-stop operation service and compatible vehicle system decision considering with the best possible investment rail line, furthermore. in front of Kyongbu (Seoul-Busan) high-speed rail open in 2004, we have to try to progress the efficiencies of railway operation applying various train operation management plan.

  • Demand forecasting for railroad traffic is fairly important to establish future policy and plan. The future demand of railroad traffic can be predicted by analyzing the demand of air, marine and bus traffic which influence the demand of railroad traffic. In this study, forecasting the demand of railroad traffic is implemented through neural network using the demand of air, marine and bus traffic. Estimate accuracy of the demand of railroad traffic was shown about 84% through neural net model proposed.
