  • EMU, Electric Multiple Unit, is very complicated system that consists of thousand parts. If breakdown happens, work that clears cause in most cases work that clears cause in most cases is very complicated and difficult. Also it needs much times and experts of several parts. Maintenance is depending on know-how of the operator and breakdown that happen before happens often repeatedly because information management and public ownership are not achieved properly about analysis and action result. In this paper we present the case-based expert system for EMU which is able to share this know-how knowledge that data-based systemically with another operator.

  • The study for ubiquitous computing infra is proceeding actively, it make possible to use service and access network anywhere, anytime because of wire/wireless communication technology and progress of hardware. Domestically, study for the network mobility support technology which is the key technology for future ubiquitous computing realization have progressed, but that is Insufficient. Especially, there is no study for independent mobility support study about railway wireless network. So, this study propose network mobility management technology for mobile network infra in railway and proper network model in train.

  • Ubiquotuous technology should be adopted in railroad business to provide passenger's security and convenience. In this project, IT and smart sensor technologies are reviewed, benchmarked, designed, and implemented. The target system is the next generation high speed train to be developed and operated in Korea with the maximum speed of 400km/h. Wireless sensor network with smart sensors is implemented around a train car. PC-like IT terminal will be designed and implemented so an individual passenger can use it to do information retrieval through the Internet, personal data processing, the e-learning, shopping on the railroad, and so on. These provision will give comfort, convenience, and safety of a passenger during his/her trip.

  • Ballast is an important component of railway track structures. The granular ballast can be modelled using [mite or discrete element methods. The DE method has advantages to enable us to analyze the microstructure of granular materials and to exhibit information which cannot be assessed using FE methods. In this paper, sleeper, the ballast, and ballast mat in the high-speed railroad line are modelled using two-dimensional discrete circle and line elements. The stress transferred from the sleeper via the ballast to the subgrade is analyzed. In addition, the shape and angle of stress distribution of ballast bed is evaluated with different boundary conditions for the high-speed railroad line.

  • The approach, for ensuring the quality and safety of a railway software can be considered with two points of views seeing from products, and from processes. The process point of view is to validate maturity of the organizations in accordance to the judging processes of organizations, which are specified by CMMI(Capability Maturity Model Integration) or SPICE(Software Process Improvement and Capability dEtermination : ISO/IEC15504). In this paper, we are trying to find approaches to estimate the maturity of manufacturer and assessment organization in the railway system.

  • This paper deals with the simulation model for A-Mart logistic center design and operations. In developed simulation model, receiving docks, conveyor sorter, conveyor system, shipping docks, material handling devices and manual sorting stations are considered. Three types of cargo such as transfer center cargo, distribution center cargo and supermarket cargo are considered. The simulation model and process animation are developed using the simulation package ARENA. Among various design and operation alternatives consisting of the number of workers of receiving dock, allocation of receiving docks by cargo types, conveyor sorter velocity, the number of folk-lift, the number of manual sorting operators and overall layout, the best alternatives of each subsystem are selected by simulation analysis. The major performance measures such as sorter throughput, utilization of operators at each station, receiving docks utilization and folk-lift utilization are considered for the alternative evaluation.

  • Korean society experienced successive earthquakes exceeding 5.0 magnitude in the past three years resulting in an increasing concern about earthquake stability of urban infrastructures. This study focuses on the significant aspects of earthquake risk assessment for the cut-and-cover underground railway station based on two-dimensional dynamic numerical analysis. Presented are features from a case study performed for the railway station in Seoul, South Korea. The PLAXIS2D was employed for numerical simulation and input of the earthquake ground motion was chosen from Pohang earthquake records (M5.4). The paper shows key aspects of earthquake risk for soil-structure system varying important parameters including embedded depth, supported ground information, and applied seismicity level, and then draws several meaningful conclusions from the analysis results such as seismic risk assessment.

  • Selecting a railroad line requires the comparative evaluation of various elements. As a systematic approach to this selection it will be necessary to apply the VE study and the LCC analysis. This study proposes a methodology for selecting the optimum line of the ralroad using VE-LCC analysis. The VE study is performed by following four steps : Information analysis, Function analysis, Alternative evaluation, and Optimum plan selection. The economics evaluation in VE study is using LCC analysis and Sensitivity analysis. Cost items in LCC analysis are classified into bridge, tunnel, rail, and earthwork. We could select the optimum alte-rnatives considering not only cost elements hut also various evaluation element in VE-LCC analysis. • The electrical separation joint as a filter circuit distributes the track circuit frequency. The electrical separation joint is classified into the interval where reinforcing bars are insulated and not insulated through the length of track circuit. In case of incorrectly setting up the length of electrical separation joint, the amplitude of current on the track circuit is not over standard current which is the standard of current on the track circuit and it effects on the close frequency on track circuit. Then, it makes an accident or makes a train not receive information for train control. In this paper, the electrical separation joint model is suggested and parameters are numerically calculated in the model. Moreover, the length of electrical separation joint is analyzed and is demonstrated by uisng Matlab and PSpice program.
