A comparison is made of the heat loss from a hollow cylinder, computed using an one-dimensional analytic method and a two-dimensional separation of variables scheme. For a two-dimensional analysis, the temperature of the inner surface as a boundary condition can be varied along the length of the cylinder by varing the temperature variation factor, b. Comparisons of the heat loss from the hollow cylinder using these two methods are given as a function of non-dimensional cylinder length, the ratio of the outer radius to the inner radius, temperature variation factor and Biot number. The result shows that the value of the heat loss from the hollow cylinder obtained using the one-dimensional analytic method becomes close to the value given by the two-dimensional separation of variables scheme as the value of Biot number and the non-dimensional hollow cylinder length increase and as the ratio of the outer radius to the inner radius decreases.
The initial radius of sphere decoder has great effect on the bit error rate performance and computational complexity. Until now, it has been determined either by considering the statistical property of channel or by using of MMSE solution. The initial radius obtained by using statistical property of channel includes the lattice point corresponding to the transmit signal vector with very high probability. The method using MMSE solution first calculates out the MMSE solution of the received signal, then maps the hard decision of this solution into the received signal space, and finally the distance between the mapped point and the received signal is selected as the initial radius of the sphere decoding. In this paper, we derive a simple equation for initial radius selection which uses statistical property of channel and compare it with the method using MMSE solution. To compare two methods we define new metric 'Tightness'. Through the simulation, we observe that in low and moderate SNR region, the method using MMSE solution provides more complexity reduction for decoding while in high SNR region, the method using channel statistics is better.

This study formulates a new geometric parameterization scheme to effectively address numerical analysis subject to the variation of the fiber radius of a square unit cell. In particular, the proposed mesh-morphing approach may lead to a parameterized weak form whose bilinear and linear forms are affine in the geometric parameter of interest, i.e. the fiber radius. As a result, we may certify the reduced basis analysis of a square unit cell model for any parameters in a predetermined parameter domain with a rigorous a posteriori error bound. To demonstrate the utility of the proposed geometric parameterization, we consider a two-dimensional, steady-state heat conduction analysis dependent on two parameters: a fiber radius and a thermal conductivity. For rapid yet rigorous a posteriori error evaluation, we estimate a lower bound of a coercivity constant via the min-θ method as well as the successive constraint method. Compared to the corresponding finite element analysis, the constructed reduced basis analysis may yield nearly the same solution at a computational speed about 29 times faster on average. In conclusion, the proposed geometric parameterization scheme is conducive for accurate yet efficient reduced basis analysis.
We provide a local convergence analysis for Newton-like methods for the solution of generalized equations in a Banach space setting. Using some ideas of ours introduced in [2] for nonlinear equations we show that under weaker hypotheses and computational cost than in [7] a larger convergence radius and finer error bounds on the distances involved can be obtained.

The seriousness of a traffic accident appears relatively higher on the curve sections compared with the straight sections due to a change in speed caused by a change in the driver's sight. In particular, the visual distortion phenomenon, one of the dangerous factors taking place on the curve sections, appears different according to the road's geometric design. Although it is a genuinely principal design factor which should be necessarily considered in designing a road, the previous researches on establishing the design standards for it have been insufficiently conducted. As a result, the establishment of the road design standards for the curve sections considering the sight distortion phenomenon is desperately required. This research examined the previous researches on the driver's behaviors, the driver's sight characteristics and the perceived curve radius on the curve sections, and developed the theoretical model of perceived curve radius to which a mathematical technique is applied in consideration of the visual distortion phenomenon on the two-lane curve sections in a local area. In addition, after the theoretical visual distortion was calculated on the basis of the theoretical model of perceived curve radius, the range of error on the theoretical recognition radius model formula was verified through comparing it with the previous researches' experiential visual distortion level and analyzing both of them. As a result, it was observed that as the curve radius practically increases in the theoretical recognition curve radius, the range of error tends to go down, which reflects well the characteristics of the curve sections on the road. Based on this research, it is expected that this research will be helpful to eliminate the safety defects when designing the curve sections and contribute to develop the road design standards considering human factors in the future.

In-situ soil remediation mechanism through the vertical drains (VDs) is analyzed with numerical model as the error and complementary error function. Results from in-situ test and analysis indicate that the contaminant concentration ratio as initial one ( C/$C_0$) increases as the radius ratio ( r/R) increases from the injection well, and also increases as the depth ratio ( z/ H) increases from the top of contaminated area. The elapse time needed to attain $50\%$ and $90\%$ clean up level ($ t_{50},\;t_{90}$) increases as the radius ratio ( r/R) and the depth ratio ( z/ H) increase. As above results, the procedure of soil flushing in contaminated area using vertical drains makes progress from the top of injection well to the bottom of extraction well.
We had a campaign of observing the annular solar eclipse on 2012 May 21 by naked eye through eclipse eyeglasses to determine the limit line of annularity. As a result, we had about 15,000 reports through our website. In addition there were many observation groups for which about 30,000 people in total participated in the observations. The overall result was that the limit we observed by naked eye through eclipse glasses coincided with a prediction that took into account the lunar limb irregularity within the error of ${\pm}500m$. This error of the limit line location corresponds to about ${\pm}200km$ of the radius of the Sun.

In this paper, the error and its sources in manufacturing of bourdon tube pressure gage was studied, and the method to reduce such errors was discussed. In more detail, the effects of parallelism of rollers, spring back, uniformity of radius curvature and the ratio of circumferential speeds of rollers were invesrti- gated. As a reselt, we could find out that the aprallelism of roller affected to the displacement error at the free end of gage and that the amount of spring back was closely related with the ratio of circumferential speeds of rollers. The uniformity of curvature radius was determined by the distance between bending rollers and it was comparatively uniform in the range above 30 .deg. C from the both sides of tube. Also, the ratio of circumfer-ential speeds of rollers was finded out as a very important factor giving severe influence on the creep or the hysteresis of bourdon tube.
In order to reduce the uncertainties and improve the air flow field, objective analysis using observational data is chosen as a method that enhances the reality of meteorology. To improve the meteorological components, the radius influence and nudging coefficient of the objective analysis should perform a adequate value on complex area for the objective analysis technique which related to data reliability and error suppression. Several numerical experiments have been undertaken in order to clarify the impacts of the radius influence and nudging coefficient of the objective analysis on meteorological environments. By analyzing practical urban ground conditions, we revealed that there were large differences in the meteorological differences in each case. In order to understand the quantitative impact of each run, the Statistical analysis by estimated by MM5 revealed the differences by the synoptic conditions. The strengthening of the synoptic wind condition tends to be well estimated when using quite a wide radius influence and a small nudging coefficient. On the other hand, the weakening of the synoptic wind is opposite.
In the case of single well pumping tests the storativities are generally overestimated. To compensate these errors, the effective wellbore radius should be introduced as a distance to an imaginary observation well in the time-drawdown analysis. Effective wellbore radius can be calculated through step drawdown tests or using skin factor equation. But both are of trial-and-error methods guessing real storativity values and, therefor, are difficult to apply to the field conditions. An equation was developed to estimate effective wellbore radius from storativity values obtained from pumping well data. For this study, a total of 136 time-drawdown data set were used to derive the equation. The effective wellbore radius were estimated first by changing them till the storativity values obtained from the pumping-well data match the ones based on the observation-well data. Then the equation was regressed from the relation between effective wellbore radius and the storativity values obtained from the pumping-well data. It is believed that the equation would be useful in estimating effective wellbore radius from the single well tests.
