  • Ultrasonography is highly accurate for evaluating soft tissues. Given that minimally invasive aesthetic procedures are on the rise, complications have become more prevalent. Thus, ultrasonography holds promise for assisting in the diagnosis and management of complications arising from these interventions. This report highlights the importance of ultrasonography in the treatment of complications caused by hyaluronic acid injection. A patient visited a dental office 24 hours after hyaluronic acid application, presenting pain and bruising in the middle and inferior thirds of the face on the right side. To evaluate blood vessels, the surgeon used Doppler-mode ultrasonography, which enabled the precise application of hyaluronidase to reestablish blood perfusion and preserve adjacent structures. Therefore, to avoid severe outcomes, such as necrosis or even amaurosis, the use of ultrasonography is suggested, improving the precision and safety of these procedures.

  • The study attempted to analyze items presented in Act on safety control of radioactive rays around living environment, which has been recently enacted. The test items have been divided into cosmic rays, cosmic rays, terrestrial radiation, and byproduct, etc., and the selected locations for measurement included an airplane at 8000m in the air, mountainous area at 1000m above sea level, 15m-underground building, construction site, and seashore at 0m altitude. The test showed that, based on cosmic rays, plane at 8000m in the air had 4.91mSv/y of effective dose per year. The mountainous area at 1000m above sea level, which was chosen to measure cosmic rays and terrestrial radiation, was measured 0.35mSv higher than the seashore at 0m in altitude due to the effect of cosmic rays and terrestrial radiation from the greater height above sea level. The construction site, chosen as a location to measure byproduct, showed the highest value among the items with 6.66mSv, which is as 10times high as that of a completed building. The seashore at 0m in altitude had 5.96mSv, and, 15m-underground building, based on terrestrial radiation, was the lowest with 4.91mSv. This suggests that, despite the assumption that terrestrial radiation will have greater effect deeper underground, it did not affect inside the building significantly. This study showed that the items presented in Act on safety control of radioactive rays around living environment were not close to effective dose limit for radiation workers proposed by ICRP. However, they were between 4 and 7 times higher than that for general public. This suggests that there should be continuous research on and attention to Safe Management of Daily Surrounding Radiation Act, which is still at its beginning stage.

  • This paper uses a glass dosimeter to evaluate the lens-absorbed dose of scattered radiation generated in tomotherapy intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). The head and neck portion of the rando phantom was subjected to a CT scan. The tomotherapy plan was designed to ensure delivery of the prescribed total 70 Gy day 2.2 Gy. With the lens portion of the glass dosimeter, a 5mm bolus was subjected to the scattered radiation treatment, and the dose was measured in each of the three megavoltage CT (MVCT) modes. The result is multiplied by 30 times and was determined once as the mean value. The measurement at the MVCT Coarse mode is RT mode 10.797 mGy, that for the Normal mode is 13.360 mGy, for the Fine mode is a maximum of 22.872 mGy, and for the treatment mode is 895.830 mGy. A small amount of scattered radiation in the MVCT is measured in the lens scattered radiation, but scattered radiation during treatment was measured to be near 1 Gy on the lens. Compared to a one-time radiation treatment of 2.2 Gy, the survey showed something unexpected in that it was half the value of that research to the patient. Therefore, will be aware of how much of an influence there will be on sensitive organs, such as the lens by scattered radiation generated during intensity modulated radiation therapy.

  • In this study, the authors attempted to measure the skin dose by irradiating the actual dose on to the TLD(Thermo-Luminescence Dosimeter) and EBT3 Film used as the In-vivo dosimetry after planning the same treatment as the actual patient on a Phantom, because the erythema or dermatitis is frequently occurred on the patients' skin at the time of the proton therapy of medulloblastoma patient receiving the proton therapy. They intended to know whether there is the usefulness for the dosimetry of skin by the comparative analysis of the measured dose values with the treatment planned skin dose. The CT scan from the Brain to the Pelvis was done by placing a phantom on the CSI(Cranio-spinal irradiation) Set-up position of Medulloblastoma, and the treatment Isocenter point was aligned by using DIPS(Digital Image Positioning System) in the treatment room after planning a proton therapy. The treatment Isocenter point of 5 areas that the proton beam was entered into them, and Markers of 2 areas shown in the Phantom during CT scans, that is, in all 7 points, TLD and EBT3 Film pre-calibrated are alternatively attached, and the proton beam that the treatment was planned, was irradiated by 10 times, respectively. As a result of the comparative analysis of the average value calculated from the result values obtained by the repeated measurement of 10 times with the Skin Dose measured in the treatment planning system, the measured dose values of 6 points, except for one point that the accurate measurement was lacked due to the measurement position with a difficulty showed the distribution of the absolute dose value ${\pm}2%$ in both TLD and EBT Film. In conclusion, in this study, the clinical usefulness of the TLD and EBT3 Film for the Enterance skin dose measurement in the first proton therapy in Korea was confirmed.

  • Metallic nanoparticles have attractive properties in biomedical applications such as diagnostics and therapeutics. Cross linked dextran coated iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) and silica coated gadolinium oxide nanoparticles (SPGONs) have been synthesized as a radiosensitizer in the proton beam cancer therapy. The dextran and silicaused for the protective moieties on the SPIONs and SPGONs respectively. Size distributions of synthesized nanoparticles were confirmed 3~5 nm for SPIONs and 30~100 nm for SPGONs by transmission electron microscope (TEM). Cell survival fraction measurement and Western blot assay were performed to evaluate the radiosensitization effects of synthesized radiosensitizer. The calculated radiosensitization of SPIONs and SPGONs at 90 % cell death from the measured cell survival curves were 1.23 and 1.03 respectively. Western blotting results also show the same consistent results that the amount of released cytochrome c from mitochondria was considerably increased for the cancer cells taken up SPIONs.

  • This study examines image quality of medical image after compression using JPEG2000 for AAPM CT Performance Phantom in PACS. The compressed images of 15:1 showed change of 1.93% and 0.81% in the CT number of water and the slice thickness, respectively, compared to the original images. The variation of the uniformity did not give a correlation for each measured area. In noise measurements at compressions of 10:1 and 15:1, changes of 1.47% to 10.99% were observed, respectively. The noise showed incremation tendency as increasing over the compression ratio 15:1, and the noise of 81.68% was measured at a compression of 40:1. CT number, uniformity, slice thickness, spatial resolution and contrast resolution for the compressed images were slightly changed by increasing the compression ratio. However, the noise was seriously changed relatively at the compressed images. Thus the noise was a important factor to determine the compression ration. A compression ratio of 10:1 for the AAPM CT Performance Phantom image was appropriate and could be applied to diagnostic images.

  • The purpose of this study was tried to evaluate the filling sodium states inside the fuel rod of sodium-cooled fast reactor by digital medical X-ray. We used the diagnostic X-ray generators in digital radiography (DR). This study have found the optimal conditions by changing the effective focal spot size of X-ray tube and post-processing of the DR method with a tungsten edge plate in order to ensure excellent sharpness At this time, the sharpness and resolution were evaluated using the MTF (modulation transfer function). As a result, this study obtained a spatial resolution of 3.871 lp/mm (0.1 MTF), 3.290 lp/mm (0.5 MTF) when implemented the contrast strengthen post-processing in small focal spot. In this research, the result is able to evaluate the level of sodium inside the fuel rod by using the diagnostic X-ray generators in medical digital radiographic images.

  • Purpose: To evaluate the precision of measurements taken of dental implants in bucco-lingually sectioned views of the maxilla by linear tomograms of the panorama and to assess the visibility of the inferior wall of the maxillary sinus. Materials and Methods : Eighty sites prepared with implants of gutta percha cone in the sockets of the upper premolars and molars of 10 dry skulls were radiographically examined using linear tomograms of panorama, and scanned coronally and axially by computed tomography. The differences in mm between the measurements in bucco-lingually sectioned images of maxillary alveolar bone and the true length and width of the implanted gutta percha cones were compared as mean values (mean) and standard deviations (SD) for each radiographic technique. Linear tomography of panorama was compared with computed tomography for visualization of the relationship between the inferior wall of maxillary sinus and the end of each implant. Results: The deviations between the actual implant length and the measured values taken from the linear tomograms (0.44±0.39 mm) was significantly less than the measured values from the multiplanar reconstructed images of the axially scanned computed tomogram (1.21 ± 0.90 mm). There was statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) between two techniques in the differences between the measurements and true implant length. The relationship of the inferior border of maxillary sinus with end of implant was worse identified with the linear tomogram of panorama (68%) than the multiplanar reconstructed image of axially scanned computed tomogram (99%). Conclusion: We could not find any differences in the accuracy of length measurement between the linear tomogram of panorama and computed tomogram, but computed tomogram allowed for a better visualization of the inferior wall of the maxillary sinus than the linear tomogram.
