  • In this paper, a CR(Cognitive Radio) based on SDR(Software Defined Radio) is the technology combined a method selecting available frequency by recognizing surroundings with a learning algorithm continuously updating basic functions for communication and various environment parameters. Recently, as increasing demands with development of wireless communication service, CR is in the spotlight as technology using frequency resource efficiently. In order to apply CR system to the terminal and implement it, the research field to be preceded can be divided large as a hardware part and a software part. It can be also divided into RF processing and digital signal processing in the hardware part. In this paper, we look over preceding techniques required for applying CR system to the terminal, and research the forms of the terminal when they practically apply to the terminal.

  • In this paper, we proposed a scheme for signal detection based on average of detected energy of frequencies for backscatter communications. We applied this scheme on the bistatic backscatter radio architecture for RF energy harvesting. Tags reflected entire RF signals on a same bandwidth when transmitted energy signals. Receivers can optimal switching antenna by this scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can precisely detect signals from tag with properly calculated parameters.

  • Mobile phones work by transmitting and receiving radio frequency microwave radiation. The radio frequency (RF) emitted by mobile phones is stronger than FM radio signal which are known to cause cancer. Though research and evidence available on the risk of cancer by mobile phones does not provide a clear and direct support that mobile phones cause cancers. Evidence does not also support an association between exposure to radio frequency and microwave radiation from mobile phones and direct effects on health. It is however clear that lack of available evidence of cancer as regards the use of mobile phone should not be interpreted as proof of absence of cancer risk, so that excessive use of mobile phones should be taken very seriously and with caution to prevent cancer.

  • Radio wave is the valuable resources in $21^{st}$ century. It will be widely used in various applications such as DMB, USN, telematics, and home network as well as mobile and wireless communications. Cognitive Radio technology is devised to maximize the utilization of radio resources by sensing near-by spectrum and dynamic and allocating free resources dynamically and adaptively. Wireless links for the secondary user need to be frequently switched to idle frequencies during the transmission of multimedia data in the cognitive radio based system. This may cause delay and information loss, and QoS degradations occur inevitably. The efficient frequency allocation scheme is necessary to support the seamless multimedia service to the secondary user while maintaining QoS of the primary user. This paper suggests a frequency selection scheme which considers other parameters such as cell load, data rate, and available bandwidth than just received signal strength during the frequency selection process. The performance of our proposed scheme is analyzed by simulation.

  • In this paper, a GNSS error generation simulator for Signal Quality Monitoring (SQM) is implemented by using Matlab based on mathematical models derived from the effect of GNSS signal and measurement errors. The GNSS signal measurement errors of interest in this paper include three cases such as Evil Wave Form (EWF), Multipath (MP) and Radio Frequency Interference (RFI). In order to verify the validity of the generated measurement errors, a simple form of metrics for detecting and monitoring GNSS errors is included in the simulator. The GNSS errors generated by the simulator are added to the GNSS measurement data from commercial GNSS receiver in real time, and then, the SQM is tested for various scenarios of each case configured by scenario setting of the user.

  • We analyze transmission performance of radio frequency signal in WDM-ROF (wavelength division multiplexing - radio over fiber) system employing photonic crystal fiber. In a WDM-ROF system employing conventional single-mode fiber, transmission performance of radio frequency signal is analyzed depending on each WDM channel. In this case, each WDM channel experiences power fluctuation of received RF signal in remote node because of double sidebands of the modulated signal and wavelength dependent dispersion of single mode fiber. This RF power fluctuation acts as a design constraint in viewpoint of system design. By employing photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with dispersion compensation characteristics, the transmission performance of RF signal can be improved compared with the case with SMF only.

  • Traffic accidents caused by the attention dispersion are increasing and the behavior of the attention dispersion affects the front-observing rate, road keeping ability, and reaction time for a dangerous situation. Many drivers listen to a radio broadcast and they have to change the frequency for continuously listening a radio broadcast of the specific broadcasting station in case of crossing a boundary of the particular area. In this situation, the possibility of a car accident increases, because the attention dispersion of a driver might be occurred. Especially, the risk of a car accident caused by changing the frequency of a radio is more serious in the highway, due to the high speed of a vehicle. In order to reduce the risk of a car accident caused by handling a radio during driving car, in this paper, we propose an automatic frequency conversion algorithm for vehicle radio, which saves normal system frequencies of primary broadcasting stations in a database and determines new frequency of the changed area using the location information obtained from a navigation system in a boundary of the specific area. After determining new frequency, the proposed algorithm selects a frequency with better receiving rate comparing signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) of two signals corresponding previous and new frequencies.

  • This paper studies the energy efficiency power allocation for cognitive radio networks based on uplink orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing. The power allocation problem is intended to minimize the maximum energy efficiency measured by "Joule per bit" metric, under total power constraint and robust aggregate mutual interference power constraint. However, the above problem is non-convex. To make it solvable, an equivalent convex optimization problem is derived that can be solved by general fractional programming. Then, a robust energy efficiency power allocation scheme is presented. Simulation results corroborate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

  • In this paper, a signal detection scheme for cognitive radio (CR) based on the Bussgang theorem is proposed. The proposed scheme calculates the statistical difference between Gaussian noise and the primary user signal by applying the Bussgang theorem to the received signal. Therefore, the proposed scheme overcomes the noise uncertainty and gives scalable complexity according to the zero-memory nonlinear function for a mobile device. We also present the theoretical analysis on the detection threshold and the detection performance in the additive white Gaussian noise channel. The proposed detection scheme is evaluated by computer simulations based on the IEEE 802.22 standard for the wireless regional area network. Our results show that the proposed scheme is robust to the noise uncertainty and works well in a very low signal-to-noise ratio.

  • In this paper, we propose out-of -band collaborative spectrum sensing scheme in the cognitive radio (CR) base station operated by the multiple frequency channels. Also this paper presents the signal detection results for ATSC digital TV signal as an incumbent signal and derives signal detection probability and false alarm probability for the out-of-band collaborative spectrum sensing scheme in frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel. Numerical results demonstrate that the sensing performance is improved by the out-of-band collaborative spectrum sensing in the case that the incumbent signal powers measured by the CR terminals of the multiple frequency channels are almost similar.
