Underwater radiated noise is the key in acoustic stealth performance of modern naval ships. The underwater radiated noise predicted by the hull vibration with radiation efficiency cannot always give the information of radiation pattern which is essential to analyze of detection probability by enemy and to improve the operational performance of the naval ship. The radiation pattern of underwater radiated noise is able to be obtained with radiation efficiency and radiation directional coefficient. In this paper, a new method to extract the radiation efficiency and radiation directional coefficient is suggested and proved with the simulation and experiment by using cylindrical shell of 70 cm diameter in air.

The purpose of this paper was to analyze the influence of radiation and convection component separated from surface heat combined transfer coefficient on dynamic Heat load simulation. In general, it was not considered the mutual radiation of walls that heat load simulation calculated by surface combined heat transfer coefficient. In order to solve this problem, we had developed new simulation program to calculate radiation heat transfer and convection heat transfer respectively, and verified the influence of radiation component with this new program, in indoor heat transfer process.

This paper proposes a radiation model, which considers radiation transport as an important component in hot gas analysis. This radiation model is derived from combining the method of partial characteristics (MPC) with net emission coefficient (NEC), and it covers the drawbacks of existing models. Subsequently, using this proposed model, the arc-flow interaction in an arcing chamber can be efficiently computed. The arc is represented as an energy source term composed of ohmic heating and the radiation transport in the energy conservation equation. Ohmic heating term was computed by the electric field analysis within the conducting plasma region. Radiation transport was calculated by the proposed radiation model. Also, in this paper, radiation models were introduced and applied to the gas circuit breaker (GCB) model. Through simulation results, the efficiency of the proposed model was confirmed.

The measurement of the radiation energy, trunk temperature, leaf area index (LAI), air temperature, vapor pres-sure, and precipitation has been conducted under a mixed forest at Kwangneung Arboretum during the period of 2001. Characteristics of the diurnal and seasonal variation of the radiative energy were investigated. The aerodynamic roughness length was determined as about 1.6 m and the mean albedo was about 0.1 The downward short-wave radiation was linearly correlated with the net radiation and its correlation coefficient was about 0.96. From this linear relation, the heating coefficient was calculated and its annual mean value was about 0.21 The albedo and heating coefficient was varied with season, surface characteristics, and meteorological conditions. The diurnal and seasonal variations of radiation energy were discussed in terms of the surface characteristics and meteorological conditions. In the daytime, during clear skies, net radiation was dominated by the shortwave radiation. In presence of clouds and fog, the radiation energy was diminished. At night, the net radiation was entirely dominated due to the net longwave radiation. There was no distinct diurnal variation in net radiation flux during the overcast or rainy days. The net radiation was strongest in spring and weakest in winter. The seasonal development in leaf area was also reflected in a strong seasonal pattern of the radiation energy balance. The timing, duration, and maximum leaf area and trunk temperature were found to be an important control on radiation energy budget. The trunk temperature was either equal or warmer than air temperature during most of the growing season because the canopy could absorb a substantial amount of sunlight. After autumn (after the middle of October), the trunk temperature was consistently cooler than air temperature.
The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) 103 recommends a cost-benefit analysis method as an auxiliary tool for scientific and rational decision-making for the principle of optimization of radiological protection. In order to conduct a cost-benefit analysis, the safety improvement of nuclear power by regulation must be measured and converted into monetary terms. The improvement of nuclear safety can be measured by reducing the radiation exposure dose of the people, and it is necessary to determine the coefficient to convert the radiation exposure dose into money. The monetary coefficient is calculated as the product of the statistical life value (VSL) and the nominal risk coefficient. In order to derive the monetary coefficient, the willingness to pay (WTP) can be estimated using the contingent valuation method (CVM), which quantifies the value of non-market goods by converting them into monetary units. WTP can be estimated based on the random utility model, which is the basic model for bivariate selection type conditional value measurement data. Statistical life value can be calculated using the estimated WTP and reduction in early mortality, and a monetary coefficient can be derived.
Estimation of typical solar radiation is very important for the calculations concerning many solar applications. But solar radiation measurements are not easily available because of the expensive measuring equipment and techniques required. Accordingly, for regions where no solar radiation is measured, solar radiation need to be estimated using other meteorological data. However, currently in Korea, there is no study on how to do this. In this paper, the global radiation of the six major cities in South Korea where the global radiation is measured using comparatively simple CRM model was calculated compared and analyzed. The comparison between the original coefficient and the site-fitted coefficient for these cities are as follows. Differences between the site-fitted coefficient and the original coefficient for six cities are small. Except for Gwangju, both calculations show strong correlation. In case of Seoul, the $R^2$(coefficient of determination) were 0.747 and 0.749. In case of Busan and Daegu the figures were 0.817, 0.819 and 0.820, 0.821 respectively. For Gwangju, these were 0.618 and 0.622, Thus, the site-fitted coefficients were slightly higher for these four cities. On the other hand, Daejeon and Incheon was reported 0.773, 0.772 and 0.785, 0.783, respectively.
By using the buildup characteristics of the radiophotoluminescence glass dosimeter(RPLGD), it is aimed to help the measurement of the accurate dose by measuring the radiation dose according to the time of the glass element. Five glass elements were arranged on the table and the source to image receptor distance(SID) was set to 100 cm for the build-up radiation dose measurement of the fluorescent glass dosimeter glass element(GD-352M). Radiation doses and saturation rates were measured over time according to irradiation time, with the tube voltage (30, 60, 90 kVp) and tube current (50, 100 mAs) Repeatability test was repeated ten times to measure the coefficient of variation. The radiation dose increased from 0.182 mGy to 12.902 mGy and the saturation rate increased from 58.3% with increasing exposure condition and time. The coefficient of variation of the glass elements of the fluorescent glass dosimeter was ranged from 0.2 to 0.77 according to the X - ray exposure conditions. X - ray exposure showed that the radiation dose and saturation rate were increased with buildup characteristics, and degeneration of glass elements was not observed. The reproducibility of the variation coefficient of the radiation generator was included within the error range and the reproducibility of the radiation dose was excellent.
Solar applications analysis and building energy performance depend on the quality of the solar resource data available. Unfortunately, most of the weather stations do not measure solar radiation data in Korea, as a reason many researchers have studied different solar radiation estimation models and suggested to apply them to various locations in Korea. In addition, they also studied the impact of hourly global solar radiation on energy performance of an office building by comparing the simulated building energy consumptions using four different weather files, one using measured, and three estimated solar radiation from different models, which are Cloud-cover Radiation Model (CRM), Zhang and Huang Model (ZHM), and Meteorological Radiation Model (MRM), and concluded that there was some impact on energy performance of the building due to the using different solar radiation models. However, the result cannot be applied to all other buildings since the simulated office building for that study only used limited building characteristics such as using fixed values of solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) and window-to-wall ratio (WWR), which are significant parameters related to solar radiation that affect to the building energy consumptions. Therefore, there is a need to identify how the building energy consumption will be changed by varying these building parameters. In this study, the impact of one measured and three estimated global solar radiation on energy performance of the office building was conducted taking account of SHGC and WWR. As a result, it was identified that the impact of four different solar radiation data on energy performance of the office building was evident regardless SHGC and WWR changes, and concluded that the most suitable solar models was changed from the CRM/ZHM to the MRM as SHGC and WWR increases.
Soils are porous materials with high shielding capability to attenuate gamma and X-rays. The disposal of radionuclides throughout the soil profile can expose the living organisms to ionizing radiation. Thus, studies aiming to analyze the shielding properties of the soils are of particular interest for radiation shielding. Investigations on evaluating the shielding capabilities of highly weathered soils are still scarce, meaning that additional research is necessary to check their efficiency to attenuate radiation. In this study, the radiation shielding properties of contrasting soils were evaluated. The radiation interaction parameters assessed were attenuation coefficients, mean free path, and half- and tenth-value layers. At low photon energies, the photoelectric absorption contribution to the attenuation coefficient predominated, while at intermediate and high photon energies, the incoherent scattering and pair production were the dominant effects. Soils with the highest densities presented the best shielding properties, regardless of their chemical compositions. Increases in the attenuation coefficient and decreases in shielding parameters of the soils were associated with increases in clay, Fe2O3, Al2O3, and TiO2 amounts. In addition, this paper provides a comprehensive description of the shielding properties of weathered soils showing the importance of their granulometric fractions and oxides to the attenuation of the radiation.
