Neutron dose assessment in criticality accidents using Whole Body Counter (WBC) was proved to be an effective method as rapid neutron dose estimation at the JCO criticality accident in Tokai-mura. The 1.36MeV gamma-ray of $^{24}Na$ in a body can be detected easily by a germanium detector. The Minimum Detectable Activity (MDA) of $^{24}Na$ is approximately 50Bq for 10miniute measurement by the germanium-type whole body counter at JNC Tokai Works. Neutron energy spectra at the typical shielding conditions in criticality accidents were calculated and the conversion factor, whole body activity-to-organ mass weighted neutron absorbed dose, corresponding to each condition were determined. The conversion factor for uncollied fission spectrum is 7.7 $[(Bq^{24}Na/g^{23}Na)/mGy]$.

Most of the spatial scattered dose caused by the scattered rays generated by the collision between the object and X-rays is relatively easily absorbed by the human body as electromagnetic waves in the low energy region, thereby increasing the degree of radiation exposure. Such spatial scattering dose is also used as an indicator of the degree of radiation exposure of radiation workers and patients, and there is a need for a method to reduce exposure by reducing the spatial scattered dose that occurs indirectly. Therefore, in this study, a lead-free radiation shielding sheet was proposed as a way to reduce the spatial scattering dose, and a Monte Carlo (MC) simulation was performed based on a chest X-ray examination. The absorbed dose was calculated and the measured value and the shielding rate were compared and evaluated.
In this study, the space gamma dose rates in the apartments structured with concrete were measured in accordance with construction year. In addition, the environmental radiation rates coming from the subway platforms and the road tunnels were analyzed in the equivalent dose by multiplying the absorbed dose with the radiation weighting factors. The space gamma dose rates measured in apartments were higher than those of outdoor which was $0.08{\sim}0.11uSv/h$ in the natural conditions. Especially, the older construction year is, the higher becomes space gamma dose rate. The average gamma dose rates in the subway platforms were measured. In the case of Busan and Daegu subway, the earlier the opening year is, the higher becomes dose rate. However, the dose rates of Seoul subway Lines were high overall, regardless of opening year. Seoul subway Line 6 showed the highest value of 0.21uSv/h. The gamma dose rate in road tunnels was higher than one of the outdoor and increased with opening year like as apartment. In dose rate comparison of the concrete structures with the outdoor, therefore, the space gamma dose rate of indoor is higher than one of the outdoor and the older structures have a higher dose rate.
This study measures the additional dose for each treatment area using kV X-ray based OBI (On-Board Imager) and CBCT (Cone-Beam CT), which have excellent spatial resolution and contrast, and evaluates the adequacy and stability of radiation management aspects of IGRT. The subjects of the experiment were examined with OBI and CBCT attached to a linear accelerator (Clinac IX), and ring-shaped Halcyon CBCT under imaging conditions for each treatment area, and the dose at the center was measured using an ion chamber. OBI single fraction dose was measured as 0.77 mGy in the head area, 3.04 mGy in the chest area, and 7.19 mGy in the pelvic area. The absorbed doses from the two devices, Clinac IX CBCT and Halcyon CBCT, were measured to be similar in the pelvic area, at 70.04 mGy and 70.45 mGy. and in chest CBCT, the Clinac IX absorbed dose (70.05 mGy) was higher than the Halcyon absorbed dose (21.01 mGy). The absorbed dose to the head area was also higher than that of Clinac IX (9.08 mGy) and Halcyon (5.44 mGy). In kV X-ray-based IGRT, additional radiation exposure due to photoelectric absorption may affect the overall volume of the treatment area, and caution is required.
In this study, the highly sensitive $CaSO_4:Tm$-PTFE TLDs has been fabricated for the purpose of measurement of high energy electron. $CaSO_4:Tm$ phosphor powder was mixed with polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) powder and moulded in a disk type(diameter 8.5 mm. thickness $90\;mg/cm^2$) by cold pressing. The absorbed dose distribution and ranges for high energy electron were measured by using the $CaSO_4:Tm$-PTFE TLDs. The ranges determined were $R_{100}=14.5mm$, $R_{50}=24.1mm$ and $R_P=31.8mm$, respectively and the beam flatness, the variation of relative dose in 80% of the field size, was 4.5%. The fabricated $CaSO_4:Tm$-PTFE TLDs nay be utilized in radiation dosimetry for personal, absorbed dose and environmental monitoring.
The prime purpose of this study is to realize an index quantity, absorbed dose index, defined by the ICRU for the characterization of ambient radiation level at any location for the purpose of radiation protection. The experiment has been designed to be carried out in two phases, namely, preliminary and main experiment. In the primary study a 30cm diameter sphere of polyethylene was used, while in the main experiment that of tissue equivalent material was fabricated and used. Both experiments were performed in the gamma-ray fields of $^{137}Cs\;and\;^{60}Co$, and in a neutron beam of thermal column of the TRIGA MARK-II research reactor. In the measurement of gamma-ray absorbed dose TLD-700 $(^{7}LiF)$ chips were used, and for the neutron dose both Au activation foils and TLD chips (TLD-600 $(^{6}LiF)$ and TLD-700 for the discrimination of gamma-ray contribution) were used. Theoretical assessment of the absorbed dose in the sphere phantom has been carried out in accordance with the Ehrlich's idea that deduced on the basis of Burlin's cavity theory in the case of gamma-ray irradiation. For the analysis of neutron dose fluence-KERMA rate conversion method was used. The explanation on the dose assessment is given in detail. Results obtained were numerically and statistically analyzed and the depth dose distributions are presented in the graphic forms with normalized values. In the concluding remarks, the possibility and difficulty of realizing the index quantity, including questions and problems to be solved are mentioned.

Cosmic ray is composed of nuclear particles moving at a light speed. The cosmic ray affects the performance and the reliability of semiconductor devices by ionizing the semiconductor material. In this study, the radiation effects of protons, electrons, and photons, which compose the cosmic ray, on the GOS(Geostationary Orbit Satellite) were evaluated using the Monte-Carlo N-Particle code. The GOS was chosen due to the comparatively long exposure to the cosmic ray as it stays in the geostationary orbit more than 10 years. As the absorbed dose of semiconductor from electrons is much larger than those of protons, photons, and the secondary radiation, most of the radiation exposure of the semiconductors in the GOS results from that of electrons. When we compare the calculated absorbed dose with the radio-resistance of semiconductor, the Intel 486 of the Intel company is not suitable for the GOS applications due to its low radio-resistance. However RH3000-20 of MIPS and Motorola 602/603e can be applied to the Satellite when the aluminium shield is thicker than 3 mm.

The objective of this study is to monitor the radiation doses delivered to a cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) by comparing the absorbed doses calculated by a commercial treatment planning system (TPS) to those measured by an in vivo dosimeter. Accurate monitoring of the radiation absorbed by a CIED during radiotherapy is necessary to prevent damage to the device. We conducted this study on three patients, who had the CIED inserted and were to be treated with radiotherapy. Treatment plans were generated using the Eclipse system, with a progressive resolution photon optimizer algorithm and the Acuros XB dose calculation algorithm. Measurements were performed on the patients using optically stimulated luminescence detectors placed on the skin, near the CIED. The results showed that the calculated doses from the TPS were up to 5 times lower than the measured doses. Therefore, it is recommended that in vivo dosimetry be conducted during radiotherapy for CIED patients to prevent damage to the CIED.
Generally, it is recommended that the dosimetric effect of carbon fiber couch should be considered especially for an intensity-modulated therapy with a large portion of monitor units from posterior angles. Even a flattening filter free (FFF) beam has been used for stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), the effect of carbon fiber couch for FFF beam is not well known. This work is an effort to evaluate the dosimetric effect of carbon fiber couch for flattened and FFF beam of Elekta linac empirically. The absorbed doses were measured with Farmer type chamber and water-equivalent phantoms with and without couch. And differences of the absorbed doses between with and without couch defined as "couch effect". By comparing calculated dose in treatment planning system (TPS) with measured dose, the optimal density of couch was evaluated. Finally, differences on patient's skin dose and target dose by couch were evaluated in TPS. As a result, the couch effect for 6 and 10 MV flattened beam were -2.71% and -2.32%, respectively. These values were agreed with provided data by vendor within 0.5%. The couch effect for 6 and 10 MV FFF beam were -3.75% and -2.80%, respectively. The patient's skin dose was increased as 18.6% and target dose was decreased as 0.87%, respectively. It was realized that the couch effect of FFF beam was more severe than that of flattened beam. Patient's skin dose and target dose were changed by the couch effect.

The present studies are to describe the grafting reaction of styrene in various solvents to polypropylene fabric by the simultaneous method using Co-60. The influence of various factors such as absorbed dose, dose rate, type of solvent, acid and multifunctional monomer were evaluated. At constant absorbed dose, the grafting yield was found to be higher at low dose rate. The initial rate of grafting was found to be proportional to a 0.56 power of dose rate. The inclusion of mineral acid in the grafting solution led to an increase in radiation grafting yield at almost all monomer concentration examined. Multifunctional monomer was also effective to increase grafting yield. The addition of both acid and multifunctional monomer was found to accelerate the grafting yield much more than the separate addition of two additives.
