This paper presents an analysis of eccentricity ratio of rolling piston using mobility method which is a powerful tool for analyzing dynamically-loaded journal bearings with efficiency and applicability. And, we investigate influences of design parameters (discharge pressure, radial clearance, rotational velocity of shaft, and eccentricity of compressor) on bearing load and eccentricity ratio. The results show that the discharge pressure, radial clearance and rotational velocity of shaft have significant influence on eccentricity ratio, and the discharge pressure and eccentricity of compressor have influence on bearing load.
This paper presents the experimental results of the radial piston type oil pump with new mechanism for a metal diaphragm hydrogen compressor. Generally, metal diaphragm type hydrogen compressor systems are operated by oil hydraulic power. In this system an oil compensating pump has been demanded to compensate for a leakage oil head chamber. The metal diaphragm type hydrogen compressor consists of an oil compensating pump, commonly used hydraulic piston pump and driven by main crank shaft. The radial piston type oil compensating pump with new rolling contacted piston mechanism is developed and experimented. The developed piston element of the radial piston pump consists of piston, steel ball, return spring, two check valves, eccentric cam and ball racer. In this study, designed 4 type pistons as and orifice hole. Operating characteristics and pressure ripple characteristics are tested under no load to 60bar loaded with every 20bar increasing step and pressure ripple and flow rate are experimentally investigated.
Dynamic behavior of a scroll compressor has been investigated analytically. The equations of motion of moving elements of the scroll compressor such as the orbiting scroll, anti-rotation device, slider bush, and the crank shaft with eccentric crank pin have been set up. As the solutions of these equations, reaction forces between the moving elements, and also between the moving elements and the compressor frame have been calculated. The reaction forces from the moving elements to the frame are the unbalanced forces, which produce accelerations of the compressor body. These accelerations can be used as a measure of the compressor vibration. The major contributions to the unbalanced forces come from the orbiting movement of the orbiting scroll.
In this paper, shape optimization based on three-dimensional flow analysis has been performed for impeller design of centrifugal compressor. To evaluate the objective function of an isentropic efficiency, Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations are solved with SST (Shear Stress Transport) turbulence model. The governing equations are discretized by finite volume approximations. The optimization techniques based on the radial basis neural network method are used for the optimization. Latin hypercube sampling as design of experiments is used to generate thirty design points within design space. Sequential quadratic programming is used to search the optimal point based on the radial basis neural network model. Four geometrical variables concerning impeller shape are selected as design variables. The results show that the isentropic efficiency is enhanced effectively from the shape optimization by the radial basis neural network method.
For a vertical type crankshaft-journal bearing system used in scroll compressor, nonlinear transient response analysis is applied includung nonlinear fluid film reaction forces of journal beatings. By a connected behavior analysis of crankshaft and orbiting scroll, the radial clearance of scroll wraps is calculated. Considering tangential leakage for this clearance, a coupled analysis model for leakage and dynamic behavior of the orbiting scroll is made, and analyzed by iterative calculation. By regarding clearances of main, sub bearing of crankshaft and orbiting scroll shaft bearing clearance as design parameters, the radial clearance of scroll wraps is analyzed.
Scroll compressor using a slide bushing type radial compliant crank mechanism is modelled, and it's dynamic behaviour characteristics are analyzed. Sealing forces generated in the flank surfaces of the orbiting scroll depending on the distance, e, from slide bushing center to crank pin center are calculated. From the stable condition of orbiting scroll for the moment equilibrium in tangential direction, the range of e is determined as 0$r_o$. Transient response of a crankshaft supported by two journal bearings is investigated, considering applied load, moment, and unbalance force by eccentric mass. As a result, conical whirl mode with circular orbits are obtained. The characteristics of journal orbits and frictional losses are calculated with a variation of viscosity and bearing clearance.
The effects of casing shapes on the interaction of the impeller and volute in a small-size turbo-compressor are investigated. Numerical analysis is conducted for the compressor with circular and single volute casings from inlet to discharge nozzle. In order to predict the flow pattern inside the entire impeller, vaneless diffuser, and casing, calculations with a multiple frame of reference method between the rotating and stationery parts of the domain are carried out. For incompressible turbulent flow fields, the continuity and three-dimensional time-averaged Navier-Stokes equations are employed. To predict the performance of two types of casings, the static pressure and loss coefficients are obtained with various flow rates. Also, static pressure distributions around casings are studied for different casing shapes, which are very important to predict the distribution of radial load.
Pressures in compression pockets consists of two identical spiral scrolls are influenced by gas flow resistance in discharge process and leakages in radial and tangential directions between two scroll wraps. In this paper, considering geometrical characteristics of these members, flow resistance and refrigerant gas leakage losses, pressure variations in compression pockets are calculated. For a scroll compressor model with fixed crank mechanism, acting load on crankshaft is analyzed. And, for a vertical type crankshaft-journal bearing system used in scroll compressor, nonlinear transient response is calculated including nonlinear fluid film reaction forces of journal bearings.
A numerical method of calculating the performance of a scroll compressor for refrigerant R-22 and R-134a is presented in this paper. A series of involute curves are employed for the scroll wrap design and the compression volume is investigated geometrically. The radial leakage flow rate through tip clearance is calculated by the two-dimensional compressible flow. On the basis of the results, quasi one-dimensional leakage modeling can be applied to the performance analysis of a scroll compressor, more effectively. Furthermore, the heat transfer effect between scroll wrap and working fluid in compression chamber is considered for the performance analysis. As the results of this study, the effects of the radial and tangential leakage flow rate and heat transfer on the scroll compressor performance are derived precisely. These results may provide the guideline for the design and development of a real scroll compressor.
Shape optimization of a transonic axial compressor rotor operating at the design flow condition has been performed using three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis and three different surrogate models: i.e.., Response Surface Method(RSM), Kriging Method, and Radial Basis Function(RBF). Three design variables of blade sweep, lean and skew are introduced to optimize the three-dimensional stacking line of the rotor blade. The object function of the shape optimization is selected as an adiabatic efficiency. Throughout the shape optimization of the rotor blade, the adiabatic efficiency is increased for the three different surrogate models. Detailed flow characteristics at the optimal blade shape obtained by different optimization method are drawn and discussed.
