Load flow and short circuit fault transients of a power distribution system with wind turbines as dispersed generation units is presented. Usage of renewable energies such as wind is already a small part of total installed power system in medium and low voltage networks. In this paper, a radial power distribution system with wind turbines is simulated using DIgSILENT PowerFactory software for their influence on load flow and short circuit fault transients. Short fault occurring in dispersed generation systems causes some problems for the system and costumers such as fault level increase or the problems of sudden fluctuations in the current, voltage, power and torque of the double fed induction machine utilized in the wind turbines which have been studied and investigated.
Rolling contact ball bearings are utilized almost exclusively for liquid propellant rocket engine turbopump. Turbopump ball bearings are required to endure high speed and high load for a poor lubricated condition in cryogenic environment. To evaluate bearing heat generation performance, friction torque is investigated as a function of rotation speed, bearing load and cooling flow rate through an experimental study using water coolants. Radial and axial loads are simultaneously applied to the test bearing by gas pressurized cylinder rod. Endurance performance of bearing has been also verified under the bearing required load for operating condition during total accumulated test time 2,100 sec.
As the rotating speed of rotors is increased, the instability and power loss become serious problems. Gas bearings are introduced as a good solution to those problems. But in the development of gas bearings, high load capacity and high damping force to vibrations are required. In this study a new air bearing using leaf spring pad is introduced to improve load capacity and damping force. The experimental results of the leaf spring pad air bearings show high load capacity and high damping forces. And the results show that leaf spring pad air bearings can be simultaneously acted as radial and thrust bearings
In spindle-bearing system, the displacement characteristics of the bearing by the load applied on the spindle are affected greatly by the assembling tolerance between the spindle and housing assembled to support the bearing. Also in spindle system of rotational operation, the compliance characteristic of the bearing is expected to be varied frequently by the thermal deformation of the spindle and the housing. To predict the thermal deformation of the spindle including heat generation of the bearing, we need to examine the effect on the compliance of spindle-bearing system by the assembling tolerance. In this paper, we proposed the load-displacement relation expression considering the effect which the variation of contact pressure due to the radial directional assembling tolerance between the bearing and the housing influences on the axial and radial directional displacement characteristics of the bearing. Furthermore, for several assembling systems of bearings and housings having all different assembling tolerances, we proposed a method to predict exactly the variation of the bearing preload which is sensitive to the thermal deformation by showing the propriety with experimental results.
This paper presents in-process compensation methodology to eliminate cutter runout and improve machined surface quality. The cutter runout compensation system consists of the micro-positioning mechanism with the PZT (piezo-electric translator) which is embeded in the sliding table to manipulate the radial depth of cut in real time. For the implementation of cutter runout compensation methodology. cutting force adaptive control was proposed in the angle domain based upon PI (proportional-integral) control strategy to eliminate chip-load change in end milling process. Micro-positioning control due to adaptive acuation force response improves the machined surface quality by compensation or elimination of cutter runout induced cutting force variation. This results will provide lots of information to build-up the precision machining technology.
We treat the vibrations of circular beam and make use of the method employed by J.T.Tielking, which is based on the principle of Hamilton. The Hamilton's principle requires the determinations of the potential and the kinetic energy of the model as well as done by internal pressure forces. Thje potential energy is composed of a part due to elastic deformations of the beam and a part due to radial and tangential displacements of the tread band with respect to the wheel rim. The equations of motion for such a model are derived by reference to conventional energy method. The accuracy of the expressions is demonstrated by comparison of calculated and experimental natural frequencies for circular beam. The circular beam experiences a harmonic, radial excitat- ion acting at a fixed point on the beam. Modal parameters varying the inflation pressure and load are determined experimentally by using the transfer function method.
This paper deals with torque analysis of magnetic spur gear with radial magnetized permanent magnets based on analytical method. The analysis is implemented in three parts: First, on the basis of magnetic vector potential and a two-dimensional (2D) polar-coordinate system, the magnetic field solution due to permanent magnet of source gear are obtained. And by using derived magnetic field solutions, the analytical solutions for external magnetic field distribution which affects load gear are obtained. Second, by using coordinate conversion, external magnetic field which is on the primary coordinate system is converted to the secondary coordinate system. Finally, the load gear is reduced to equivalent current densities, and the torque is computed on these currents in the external field of the source magnet. These analytical results are validated by comparing with the 2-D finite element analysis (FEA).
To improve the core technology of the micro gas turbine, the performance test facility was developed. This paper is focusing on the explanation of the characteristics of micro gas turbine and its assist devices. Major part of micro gas turbine were radial type of compressor, annular type of combustor, radial type of turbine, thrust foil bearing, radial foil bearing and generator. The assist devices were consist of exhaust duct, inverter, data acquisition system, load bank and test cell. Before building up the test facility, the component test was previously conducted to confirm the component performance. After the test facility was prepared, the motoring test was conducted to investigate the rotor dynamic characteristics of the micro gas turbine. Also, the part load performance test was performed. With a developed micro gas turbine test facility, the improved core technology about the micro gas turbine can be suggested to the related industries.
Harmonic drives have attracted increasing attention with the development of materials, parts, and related equipment. Harmonic drives exhibit high deceleration, high accuracy, and light weight. The stiffness of flexible splines according to the radial load is studied using a commercial FEM program to design the structure of the flexible spline and finite element to improve the weight and price competitiveness of harmonic drives. In addition, several studies have measured and compared friction coefficients based on 3D printed tread patterns. However, owing to the characteristics of plastic materials, a decrease in stiffness in the radial direction is inevitable. To prevent a decrease in stiffness in the radial direction, we designed and manufactured flex splines with a wrinkle shape. Through structural analysis, the reaction force and stiffness in the radial direction were determined. In addition, the maximum angle of the mound was derived by theoretical calculations, and the performance of the harmonic drive was compared with the results obtained in the mound experiment. Structural analysis shows that the shape of wrinkles decreased the stress and reaction force and increased the safety factor in comparison with that of the circular shape. During performance verification through continuous experiments, the developed harmonic drive showed continuous performance similar to that of an actual tank model. It is expected that the flex spline with a compliant spring and wrinkle shape will prevent a decrease in the radial stiffness.
Prestressed ground anchors are important structural elements in geotechnical engineering. Despite their widespread usage, the design process is often significantly simplified. One of the major drawbacks of commonly used design methods is the assumption that skin friction is mobilized uniformly along an anchor's fixed length, one consequence of which is that a progressive failure phenomenon is neglected. The following paper introduces an alternative design approach - a computer algorithm employing the load-transfer method. The method is modified for the analysis of anchors and combined with a procedure for the derivation of load-transfer functions based on commonly available laboratory tests. The load-transfer function is divided into a pre-failure (hardening) and a post-failure (softening) segment. In this way, an aspect of non-linear stress-strain soil behavior is incorporated into the algorithm. The influence of post-grouting in terms of radial stress update, diameter enlargement, and grout consolidation is included. The axial stiffness of the anchor body is not held constant. Instead, it gradually decreases as a direct consequence of tensile cracks spreading in the grout material. An analysis of the program's operation is performed via a series of parametric studies in which the influence of governing parameters is investigated. Finally, two case studies concerning three investigation anchor load tests are presented.
