  • Multimodal biometrics is a method for personal authentication and verification using more than two types of biometrics data. RBF based score-level fusion uses pattern recognition algorithm for multimodal biometrics, seeking the optimal decision boundary to classify score feature vectors each of which consists of matching scores obtained from several unimodal biometrics system for each sample. In this case, all matching scores are assumed to have the same reliability. However, in recent research it is reported that the quality of input sample affects the result of biometrics. Currently the matching scores having low reliability caused by low quality of samples are not currently considered for pattern recognition modelling in multimodal biometrics. To solve this problem, in this paper, we proposed the RBF based score-level fusion approach which employs quality information of input biometrics data to adjust decision boundary. As a result the proposed method with Qualify information showed better recognition performance than both the unimodal biometrics and the usual RBF based score-level fusion without using quality information.

  • In this paper, a novel dynamic available transfer capability (DATC) has been computed for real time applications using three different intelligent techniques viz. i) back propagation algorithm (BPA), ii) radial basis function (RBF), and iii) adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) for the first time. The conventional method of DATC is tedious and time consuming. DATC is concerned with calculating the maximum increase in point to point transfer such that the transient response remains stable and viable. The ATC information is to be continuously updated in real time and made available to market participants through an internet based Open Access Same time Information System (OASIS). The independent system operator (ISO) evaluates the transaction in real time on the basis of DATC information. The dynamic contingency screening method [1] has been utilized and critical contingencies are selected for the computation of DATC using the energy function based potential energy boundary surface (PEBS) method. The PEBS based DATC has been utilized to generate patterns for the intelligent techniques. The three different intelligent methods are tested on New England 68-bus 16 machine and 39-bus 10 machine systems and results are compared with the conventional PEBS method.

  • Since the conventional direct approaches are hard to be applied for damage diagnosis of complex large-scale structures, a two-step approach for diagnosing the joint damage of framed structures is presented in this paper by using artificial neural networks. The first step is to judge the damaged areas of a structure, which is divided into several sub-areas, using probabilistic neural networks with natural Frequencies Shift Ratio inputs. The next step is to diagnose the exact damage locations and extents by using the Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural network with the second Element End Strain Mode of the damaged sub-area input. The results of numerical simulation show that the proposed approach could diagnose the joint damage of framed structures induced by earthquake action effectively and has reliable anti-jamming abilities.

  • 본 논문에서 제안한 예측형 RBFN(Radial Basis Function Network)은 HMM과 신경망을 결합한 하이브리드 구조이다.

추출된 손 영역은 RBF(Radial Basis Function) 신경망을 이용해 각 제스처로 인식된다.

  • This paper deals with a multi-stage TSK fuzzy modeling method by using Genetic Programming (GP). Based on the time sequence of sampling data the best structural change points of complex systems are detemined by using GP, and also the moving window is simultaneously introduced to overcome the excessive amount of calculation during the generating procedure of GP tree. Therefore, a multi-stage TSK fuzzy model that attempts to represent a complex problem by decomposing it into multi-stage sub-problems is addressed and its learning algorithm is proposed based on the Radial Basis Function (RBF) network. This approach allows us to determine the model structure and parameters by stages so that the problems ran be simplified.

  • In this letter, we propose a new compression method for a high dimensional support vector machine (SVM). We used singular value decomposition (SVD) to compress the norm part of a radial basis function SVM. By deleting the least significant vectors that are extracted from the decomposition, we can compress each vector with minimized energy loss. We select the compressed vector dimension according to the predefined threshold which can limit the energy loss to design criteria. We verified the proposed vector compressed SVM (VCSVM) for conventional datasets. Experimental results show that VCSVM can reduce computational complexity and memory by more than 40% without reduction in accuracy when classifying a 20,958 dimension dataset.

  • A fault is considered as a variation of physical parameters; therefore the design of fault detection and identification(FDI) can be reduced to the parameter identification of a non linear system and to the association of the set of the estimated parameters with the mode of faults. ANFIS(Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System) which contains multiple linear models as consequent part is used to model non linear systems. In this paper, we proposes an FDI system for non linear systems using ANFIS. The proposed diagnositc system consists of two ANFISs which operate in two different modes (parallel-and series-parallel mode). It generates the parameter residuals associated with each modes of faults which can be further processed by additional RBF (Radial Basis function) network to identify the faults. The proposed FDI scheme has been tested by simultation on a two-tank system
