Design for Supporting Interoperation between Heterogeneous Networks in Personal Robot System

  • Personal Robot System in developing, have a module architecture, each module are connected through heterogeneors network systems like Ethernet, WLAN (802.11), IEEE1394 (Firewire), Bluetooth, USB, CAN, or RS-232C. In developing personal robot system we think that the key of robot performance is interoperability among modules. Each network protocol are well connected in the view of network system for the interoperability. So we make a bridging architecture that can routing, converting, transporting data packets with matcing each network's properties. Furthermore we suggest a advanced design scheme for realtime / non-realtime and control signal (short, requiring hard-realtime) / multimedia data (large, requiring soft-realtime). By some application systems, we could test performance, interoperability and stability. In this paper, we show our design concept, middleware architecture, and some applications systems using this middleware.

Development of Two Types of Radar Vehicle Detectors (두 기능을 갖는 차량검지 레이다)

  • In this paper, two types of radar vehicle detectors compatible with currently being used ILD(Inductive Loop Detector) without any modification has been developed. With these vehicle detectors based on FMCW altimeter and Doppler speedometer techniques at 24 GHz, the length and speed of a vehicle can be detected. For signal processing part, we have used DAQ board and programmed with LabView. For compatibility with traffic information network connected with existing ILD's, traffic information has been sent to VDS by using RS-232C standard interface. This development has improved approximately 10% in accuracy in terms of the speed and length information compared with that of the installed ILD in the test field.

  • TETRA(TErrestrial Trunked RAdio) is wireless communication system generally adopted to public network and backbone network, as the technology of Trunked Radio System specified by ETSI(European Telecommunications Standards Institute) and currently adopted to the Electric Power IT Backbone Network in Korea. DLMS(Device Language Message Specification) is used in order to meter an electric measuring instrument value. In this paper, DLMS Server and Client simulator are used based on Window operating system. The multi-functional gateway, which transforms the communications based on RS-232C between DLMS Server Simulator and Client Simulator to the one based on TETRA PEI(Peripheral Equipment Interface), is developed such that DLMS SCADA(Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system is constructed based on TETRA.

  • This study developed a digital security device which power is on/off by the RFID card. This device is based on the wireless data transmit/receive circuits, built in RS-232C chip and applied to computer and other digital devices. We can check whether this device is operated or not by connecting the LED. In this system, 13.56MHz frequency circuit supplies power with ID card, and DC inputs check the proximity operating distance of the card field for verifying the existence of a card. The security level of this system is much stronger than that of a compared system[13]. Anyone cannot use the system without RFID card. All illegal access is prevented except for authorized path.

  • Characteristics of a guitar sound changes according to the internal structure a guitar. The developed system uses a PC to analyze a guitar sound, which will have different characteristics in accordance with the internal structure of the guitar and the material that the guitar made, and make a data base. The developed system consist of three parts; a mechanical body which holds a guitar and the internal structure of the guitar can be changed easily; DSP sound acquisition boards which have multi channel sound input and A/D converting abilities with RS232C data transfer to PC abilities; and software which runs on a PC to analyze the input sound and make a data base.

  • In this paper, we implement a real time speaker close-up system using lip motion information from input images having some people. After detecting a speaker from input moving pictures through one color CCD camera, the other camera closes up the speaker by using lip motion information. The implemented system detects a face and lip area of each person by means of a facial color and a morphological information, and then finds out a speaker by using lip area variation. A PTZ(Pan/Tilt/Zoom) camera is used in order to close up the detected speaker and it is controlled by RS-232C serial port. Consequently, we can exactly detect a speaker in input moving pictures including more than three people.

  • In this paper, the optical modem for data link realization is designed with the advantages of optical fiber, large bandwidth, high speed and long haul communication. Modem interface, CCITT V.24 and EIA RS-232C is adopted for the compatibility with existing systems, and biphase coding format is used for digital modulation. And also, modem has serveral loopback test facility in order to diagnose system itself. Optical transmitter and receiver are designed to have the receiving sensitivity of -30dBm at $10^-9$BER in the short wavelength region. Developed system is capable of transmitting data rate at 1200bps up to 57.6Kbps in sync., and at any bps within DC to 200Kbps in async transmission.

  • In this paper, we design and implement an indoor wireless modem using small signal of ISM band regulation, which can tranceive reliable data streams. We use direct sequence spead spectrum (DS-SS) signaling with synchronous BPSK and QPSK modulation, convolutional coding with viterbi decoding. The radio frequency module uses frequency devision duplexing in 900 MHz band, and the digital module is implemented with FPGAs for the purpose fo ASIC design. The perfomrance of our own acquistion and tracking circuit consisting digital matched filter and decision logic is proved by experiments, and the possibility of file transfer at indoor environment with the entrie system that the modem is connected the PC through RS-232C port is verified.

  • This paper presents the parallel distributed control scheme for shaping of the bent glass. The designed system consists of a PC, a main controller and 11 servo-controllers, the precision motion controllers. Each elements are connected by using RS-232C and 8-bit data bus. In order to guarantee the stability and the control performance, we use a precision PID motion controller and a H-bridge on the servo-drivers. PC calculates position values of 11 DC motors by using the pre-determined curvature value and offers the user interface environment operator. The main controller provides the control instructions and parameter values to 11 servo-controllers by chip enable signal, simultaneously. Using the received commands and parameter values, the servo-controllers control the positions of the DC motors based on PID control scheme.

  • G-Sensor is being used for controlling motion of smart-phone and robot. G-Sensor can control motion to several direction, because it is composed of X, Y, and Z axis and also can be used on many mobile-phone by using Wi-Fi communication and RS-232C communication on the Bluetooth module. In this research, we suggest the application that realize and develop visual-vehicle-remote-control-system by using mobile-phone with G-Sensor so that drivers can more easily remote control and manage their vehicle with mobile-phone in real-time visual.
