Performance Analysis of Multimedia CDMA Network with Concatenated Coding and RAKE Receiver

  • In order to transmit various types of multimedia data (i.e. voice, video, and data) over a wireless channel, the coding and modulation scheme needs to be flexible and capable of providing a variable quality of service, data rates, and latency. In this paper, we study a mobile multimedia COMA network combined with the concatenated Reed-Solomon/Rate Compatible Punctured Convolution code (RS/RCPC). Also, this paper propose the combination of concatenated RS/RCPC coder and COMA RAKE receiver for multimedia COMA traffic which can be sent over wireless channels. From the results, using a frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel model, it is shown that concatenated RS/RCPC coder at the wireless physical layer can be effective in providing reliable wireless multimedia CDMA network. And the proposed scheme that combine concatenated RS/RCPC coder and CDMA RAKE receiver provides a significant gain in the BER performance over multi-user interference and multipath frequency selective fading channels.

Propose and Performance Analysis of Turbo Coded New T-DMB System (터보부호화된 새로운 T-DMB 시스템 제안 및 성능 분석)

  • The DAB system was designed to provide CD quality audio and data services for fixed, portable and mobile applications with the required BER below $10^{-4}$. However for the T-DMB system with the video service of MPEG-4 stream, BER should go down $10^{-8}$ by adding FEC blocks which consist of the Reed-Solomon (RS) encoder/decoder and convolutional interleaver/deinterleaver. In this paper we propose two types of turbo coded T-DMB system without altering the puncturing procedure and puncturing vectors defined in the standard T-DMB system for compatibility. One(Type 1) can replace the existing RS code, convolutional interleaver and RCPC code by a turbo code and the other one (Type 2) can substitute the existing RCPC code by a turbo code. Simulation results show that two new turbo coded systems are able to yield considerable performance gain after just 2 iterations. Type 2 system is better than type 1 but the amount of performance improvement is small.

  • OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing)은 하나의 데이터 열(data stream)을 낮은 데이터 전송률을 갖는 작은 데이터로 나누고, 이들을 부반송파(subcarrier)를 통해 동시에 전송한다. OFDM이 차세대 전송방식으로 채택된 이유는 주파수 선택적 페이딩(frequency selective fading)이나 협대역(narrow band)간 간섭에 받는 영향이 적어 고속 통신이 가능하기 때문이다. 본 논문에서는 RS 부호(Reed-Solomon Code)를 사용하여 OFDM에서 대용량 데이터를 전송할 때 발생하기 쉬운 연집 오류(burst error)를 정정하도록 하였다. 또한 채널 사이에 파일롯 심볼(pilot symbol)을 삽입하여 채널 추정을 통한 신호의 타이밍 오류도 고려하였다.

  • The path key establishment phase in the wireless sensor network is vulnerable to Byzantine attack. Huang and Hedhi proposed a Byzantine resilient multi-key establishment scheme using a systematic RS code, which has shortcomings of exposing a part of message symbols and inefficient transmission. In this paper, we propose a new Byzantine resilient multi-path key establishment scheme in which direct message symbols are not exposed to an adversary and are more efficiently transmitted the RS-encoded symbols to the destination node. In the Proposed scheme, a non-systematic RS code is used to transmit a generated indirect secret key and each encoded symbol is relayed through available paths between two sensor nodes. If enough symbols are collected at the destination node, it is possible to reconstruct the secret message through RS decoding.

  • In this paper, we first analyze the influence of interference due to the time variation and delay spread of the mobile channel on an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. With the result, we obtain the bit error rate performance of the 16-QAM OFDM system. Second, we investigate the performance of the Reed-Solomon (RS) coded 16-QAM OFDM system when the number of subcarriers varies. In the investigation, we assume that the information transmission rate and the total bandwidth expansion due to coding, guard interval, and the number of subcarriers are fixed. Under this condition, it is observed that there are optimum numbers of subcarriers that minimize the post decoding symbol error probability of RS code for various channel states.

  • In this paper, we study on a radio multiple sensing interface module to accurately decide serious error sources that are happened by unexpectable problems in industrial fields, in addition, we study a reliability improvement scheme to guarantee the integrity of multiple sensing data. For multiple sensing interface module, communication drivers such as USART, TWI, ADC and GPIO-I2C are implemented. to improve the transmission reliability, reed-Solomon code is used. From the simulation result of this system in indoor environment, we confirm that the reliability of RS coded data is improved about 5 times than uncoded data. Moreover, we prove that multiple sensing interface module is suitable to diagnose error sources of industrial automaton equipment.

  • In this paper, we present the efficient image transmission system using designed source-channel combined coder in W-CDMA mobile communication system. In proposed schemes, we decompose the wavelet transformed hierarchical band-images into some types of different size blocks which have different properties in error sensitivity. The RS(Reed-Solomon) coder with different coding rate is used for each decomposed source blocks which has different importance. In addition, we combine retransmitted error frames in Truncated Hybrid Type I ARQ. The proposed algorithm shows efficient image transmission methods because it is not much degraded in PSNR compared with the existing not combined source-channel coder in erroneous wireless channel.

  • The data link layer operates reliable internode communication in the OSI reference model. Generally, the forward error correction (FEC) method is used in the data link layer of the wireless sensor network (WSN) environment that has a high frequency of errors. However, the FEC method consumes a significant amount of energy due to its high error correction rate, which negatively affects the networks' lifespan. In contrast with battery-based technology, energy is regularly recharged in the solar-powered WSN to meet higher energy needs than required for basic operation of existing nodes. By efficiently utilizing this surplus energy, the proposed energy-aware FEC method can reduce the data loss rate with no decrement of the network lifetime. The method employs a trade-off relationship between the energy and data loss rate by adjusting the parity length in the FEC method to the energy state in each node. The performance of the proposed scheme was verified through a simulation.

  • In this study, the bit error rate(BER) performance for the speech and data traffic is evaluated by results of the reverse link simulation of CDMA-based IMT-2000. Simulations in the reverse link are achieved for indoor, pedestrian, and vehicular environments, which are provided by ITU-R . Also, in the these simulations, the fast power control of 1.6kHz rate is applied. The amplitude and phase of the fading signal are estimated by using the 5-tap FIR filter, and the soft-decision Viterbi and Reed-Solomon (RS) decoding are applied. Simulation results provide the optimum ratio of pilot power to traffic power, the BER performance according to the number of fingers, and performance comparison between convolutional code and concatenated code at $10^-6$ BER in 5 MHz system.
