공군 조종사 직무만족수준과 이직의도에 관한 연구: 직무스트레스의 요인분석을 중점으로 (A study about The ROKAF Pilots' Job Satisfaction Level and Intention of Turnover: Focused on The Factor Analysis of Job Stress)

  • Many pilots of the Korean Air Force(ROKAF) leave their jobs in order to move out to civilian airlines. Thanks to this considerable turnover phenomenon, the ROKAF faces a serious lack of air defense power. While the common understanding of this problem mainly talks about 'money' as the main cause of turnover, some pilots point out rather different issues. Many pilots say in a large-scale survey that they face serious job stresses not only from relative shortage of their income compared to civilian pilots, camp life, separated family conditions, overly loaded administrative works, but also from their professional flight trainings and low promotion rate to high ranks. The survey shows, however, at the same time, that the ROKAF pilots do not consider their job trainings and overall roles as the military pilots as the main factor causing the intention to turnover. A critical aspect of the pilots' job condition is many stress factors consistently affect overall job satisfaction level which stimulates the decision to turnover when they have to choose between the extension of military service as a pilot and moving-out to civilian airlines for new pilot's life. In other words, they accept the job difficulties as pilot in the military, but their long-term job satisfaction level is negatively affected by the job stresses.

  • This study focused to find the main factors causing job stress to ROKAF pilots and of which factors affects to turnover intention. As a results, the factors of job stress are job characteristics, over loaded ground work, payment, promotion and employee benefits & service system. All of these 5 factors are positively related to the causes of a pilot stress. Among the job stress factors, payment, promotion and over loaded ground work are positively related as the same order. But, job characteristics and employee benefits & service system are not. Even though ROKAF pilots are stressed by annual requirement and night flying, and also are stressed by unfulfilled welfare, those two stress factors are not related to the turnover intention.

항공기조종사 자격증명취득 표준교재 제공에 관한 고찰 (A Investigation the Aircraft Pilots Licence Acquisition Standard Reference Material Providing)

  • 본 논문에서는 항공기조종사 자격증명 취득을 위한 표준교재 제공의 필요성과 제공 방법에 관한 제안을 목적으로 미국 FAA와 한국 공군 사례 분석과 항공기조종사 자격증명을 취득한 조종사 및 예비조종사 178명의 자료를 실증 분석하였다. 사례분석 결과 국내의 경우 표준교재 제공에 제한을 두고 있는 실정과는 달리 미 FAA와 한국공군의 경우 표준교재를 제공하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 실증분석결과 항공조종사 자격증명 취득을 위해 표준교재 제공의 필요성을 인식하고 있었으며, 그 중요도 또한 매우 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 역량 있는 항공기조종사 육성을 위해서는 표준교재의 제공이 필요하며, 이는 항공운송산업의 급속한 성장에 의한 항공기조종사 부족상황을 완화시키고, 다양한 항공기 관련 사고를 예방하는데 있어 매우 중요하다는 것을 보여주는 결과이다.

  • While various efforts are being made to ensure aviation safety, air accident rate induced by pilot human factors is still high worldwide. In particular, among pilot human factors, it would be the most important issue for pilots to anticipate and recognize flight environmental factors beyond their control and to make a positive decision making(ADM). In the Republic of Korea Air Force(ROKAF), there were many dizzying experiences induced by bird strike incidents and developed into dangerous moments such as damage to the aircraft and pilots' increased mental stress. It is a matter of serious concern in terms of safety management and human factors to dismiss bird strike incidents as inevitable misfortune due to environmental factors. In 2018, the ROKAF Aviation Safety Agency(ASA) conducted an experimental study to enhance pilots' ADM competence that can anticipate and avoid a bird strike. As the way of the study, 'Bird Strike Preventing Information' had been written and distributed every week by the ASA to flight units in the ROKAF during the period of the study. Through enhanced pilots' perceptual ADM competence, there was a noticeable number of reduction in bird strike incident compared to previous years of the experimental study.

  • 첨단과학기술의 집합체로서 비약적으로 발전한 항공기 성능과 나날이 고도화되어 가고 있는 군 작전 환경을 고려해 볼 때 이상적인 조종적성을 가지고 있는 인원을 선발하는 문제는 매우 중요하다. 또한 무위로 돌아갈 수밖에 없는 중도 탈락자의 손실비용과 항공사고의 대부분이 인적요인에 의해 발생하고 있다는 사실은 조종적성검사를 통한 인원선발이 왜 중요한지에 대한 좀 더 현실적인 이유가 될 것이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 한국 공군이 2004년 개선하여 조종사 선발에 사용하고 있는 조종적성검사 항목의 타당성을 다양한 분류모형을 통하여 분석하고 선택된 변수에 대한 의미와 향후 발전방향에 대하여 논의하였다. 그리고 광의의 적성검사 항목에 속하는 개인특성변수를 투입하여 분류모형을 구성함으로써 예측력을 높이는 연구를 수행하였다.

  • Through the use of well-designed measures of ability and aptitude, good selection can reduce training wastage, reduce the risk of accidents and increase the operational effectiveness of the successful trainees. Many countries in the world, they take various kind of aptitude test. Especially in Sweden, not like the other countries, they attach importance to interview test. As a result, they can reduce training wastage and accidents. In case of ROKAF, they take many kind of aptitude test, but it is not directly effective to the selection system. They take the several aptitude test in civil aviation in Korea, especially they attach importance to personality test. For the validity and accuracy of the aptitude test, until training pilot become professional pilot, we need a comparison analysis for initial aptitude test through the continuous observation. For theses process, we need a department with special person and development of testing system.

공군 전투조종사 비행복 착용특성 및 만족도 조사 (Research on Actual Usage and Satisfaction of ROKAF Fighter Pilot's Flight Duty Uniform)

  • This study investigates Korean fighter pilot's usage and satisfaction of a flight duty uniform (FDU). The survey was conducted from October 2014 to March 2015 using Focus Group Interview (FGI) and questionnaires. FGI collected qualitative data about duty and requirements; subsequently, surveys were performed to collect quantitative data about wearing conditions and satisfaction with FDU. The results of the FGI and the questionnaire were as follows. Type of pilot duty was divided into two parts, flight duty and ground duty. It is important to consider duties as well as factors related to survival when developing FDU. According to anthropometric data and wearing size, the basic size for apparel grading should be changed from actual size, 'M95XL' to 'M100L'. It is also necessary to improve the whole sizing system. Further studies about body form changes in pilot's movement are needed to improve mobility because the respondents perceived some restrictions at several body parts in movement with the coverall uniform. Summer FDU had a low satisfaction level in vent hole function and appearance. Furthermore, protection problems in the vent hole were also an issue. Making a seasonal classification of FDU fabric will be more effective than a vent hole to increase a pilot's thermal satisfaction. Respondents had a passive stance towards FDU reform (including pocket change); therefore, a new FDU design strategy should concentrate on improving current FDU functions like mobility (or comfort) rather than dramatic changes. Pilots complained about the quality stability of FDU; therefore, quality control by military administration as well as concrete and clear design instructions by the developer should be attained together. The results obtained in this study are expected to be used as an important basis for the further development of FDU.

  • The Military Tactical Communication technology for effective network-centric warfare is developing. Targeting broadband wireless transmission, core technology for connection, and Transmission technology that secure survivability under High-speed Movement environment. On the one hand, Tactical data communication system that reflects military characteristic is developing on the base of Legacy communication equipment which is used in the field. Because almost every military units in the field have used voice to communicate which lower efficiency of operation, they have made effort to Substitute voice communication which delays military Operation Tempo to digital communication. The Communications environment of troops in Forward edge of battle field area is very poor. Especially in terms of limited frequency allocation and bandwidth. Therefore, improving the efficiency of frequency is essential for Military Tactical Communication. This paper is about The Data Compression Method for increase of Efficiency in Tactical Data Communication over Legacy Radios which are UHF, VHF, HF Radio. I proposed and proved the most efficient Data Compression Method that reflects military characteristic, after analyzing the experimentation, which simulate CAS(Close Air Support mission) data transmission between Pilot and TACP.

  • 공항 관련 법률에서는 공항 주변에 항공등화의 식별을 방해하거나 조종사와 관제사에게 눈부심을 일으키는 조명의 설치를 제한하도록 하고 있다. 그러나 조명이 조종사 또는 관제사에게 주는 눈부심에 대해서는 정성적인 판단에 기초하여 제한여부를 판단할 뿐, 정량적인 검토는 이루어지지 않고 있다. 이에 이 연구에서는 야간운항 중 공항 주변 대형 조명시설에 의해 조종사와 관제사에게 발생될 수 있는 시각장애현상을 불능글레어와 사물인지도 및 식별방해도를 통해 정량적으로 계산하고 확인하였다. 그리고 이를 바탕으로 조명시설에 의한 조종사와 관제사의 시각장애현상을 방지하기 위해 관련 제도의 보완 등을 제언하였다.

  • With the operation of the KC-330 MRTT (Multi Role Tanker Transport), which had been fielded in 2019, the ROKAF (Republic of Korea Air Force) has given fighter pilots a new mission of air refueling. As a result, fighter pilots are more likely to be exposed to risks they have never faced before, and it is necessary to look at the risk factors associated with human factors in air refueling missions. Therefore, in this study, an analysis using the HFACS (Human Factors Analysis and Classification System) model was performed for fighter pilots with air refueling qualifications. This study tried to prevent hazard in advance by discriminating the risk factors according to the human factors related to the fighter pilot during the air refueling mission.
