Temperature control of a batch PMMA polymerization reactor using adaptive predictive control algorithm

  • An adaptive unified predictive control (UPC) algorithm is applied to a batch polymerization reactor for poly(methyl methancrylate) (PMMA) and the effects of controller parameters are investigated. Computational studies are performed for a batch polymerization system model developed in this study. A transfer function in parametric form is estimated by recursive least squares (RLS) method, and the UPC algorithm is implemented to control the reactor temperature on the basis of this transfer function. The adaptive unified predictive controller shows a better performance than the PID controller for tracking set point changes, especially in the latter part of reaction course when gel effect becomes significant. Various performance can be acquired by selecting adequate values for parameters of the adaptive unified predictive controller; in other words, the optimal set of parameters exists for a given set of reaction conditions and control objective.

  • In this paper. we consider an OFDM system with cochannel interference and the use of adaptive antenna arrays to suppress such interference. Based on the conventional RLS criterion, we derive a new Recursive Least Square (RLS) adaptive beamforming algorithm for antenna arrays applied in an OFDM system. Computer simulation shows that. when applied to the OFDM system. the proposed algorithm is capable of combating cochannel interference in both AWGN channel and multipath Rayleigh fading channel with AWGN.

  • Difference equation is useful for control algorithm in the microprocessor. To approximate a derivative values from sampled data, it is used the methods of forward, backward and central differences. The key of computing discrete derivative values is the finite difference coefficient. The focus of this paper is a new approach method of finite difference formula. And we apply the proposed method to the recursive least squares(RLS) algorithm.

  • In this paper, a new linearization algorithm for DPD(Digital PreDistorter) is suggested. This new algorithm uses DFP(Davidon-Fletcher-Powell) method. This algorithm is more accurate than that of the existing algorithms, and this method renew the best-fit value in every routine with out setting the initial value of step-size. In modeling power amplifier, the memory polynomial model which can model the memory effect of the power amplifier is used. And the overall structure of linearizer is based on an indirect learning architecture. In order to verify for performance of proposed algorithm, we compared with LMS(Least Mean-Squares), RLS(Recursive Least squares) algorithm.

Pre-Equalization Techniques for Mitigating Rain Attenuation Channels in a Broadband Fixed Wireless Uplink System

  • In this paper, the performance of pre-equalization technique which can be applicable for the B-WLL uplink is evaluated and compared to post-equalization technique under three kinds of rain attenuation channels such as rain, intermittent light rain and thundershower. The BER performance comparisons of two algorithms (LMS and RLS) are investigated in the context of channel models and the length of training sequence. From the simulation results, it is shown that the post-equalization outperforms only at quite good channel conditions such as AWGN, while the pre-equalization can guarantee better BER performance at every channel conditions, especially performance gain increases as the severity of channel increases. It is concluded that the pre-equalizer using LMS algorithm is preferable at delay-tolerant situation where the complexity of algorithm is not a strict factor, while one using RLS is suitable for fast burst transmission with a relatively short training sequence.

  • In the present paper some fundamentals about exceeding the guard interval of an OFDM system is going to discuss and will introduce method to cancel a ISI and ICI effects. In this paper, the performance characteristics of robust OFDM receiving system algorithm that is composed of a channel estimator using recursive least square(RLS) algorithm in time domain and of a ISI and ICI replica and subtracter using the channel coefficients are presented. By computer simulation method, the effect of suppression of ISI and ICI is demonstrated and compared the BER performance with a conventional 1-tap equalized system. Especially the presented scheme improves the BER performance at low SNRs more or so compared with the conventional one-tap equalized receiving configuration.

  • A new polynomial-based predistortion method for linearizing nonlinear power amplifier is proposed. The proposed method finds the predistortion parameter directly without the help of postdistorter whereas most existing polynomial-based predistortion methods calculate the predistortion parameter indirectly from the prostdistorter. First, a new predistortion algorithm is derived based on the assumption that the characteristic of the amplifier is modeled by piecewise linear function. Then it is modified into a proposed method which does not require any assumption or prior knowledge of the amplifier. The proposed method is derived based on the RLS (recursive least squares) algorithm. The proposed technique is simpler to implement than the existing methods and the computer simulation demonstrates that the proposed method is more robust to the initial condition and the saturation region of the amplifier.

  • In this paper, a novel estimation alogrithm of mechanical parameters in two-mass system proposed. The inertia of a load and a motor and the stiffness are estimated by using RLS(Recursive Least Square) algorithm and acceleration information of motor. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified with simulation and experiments results.

  • In this paper, a novel design method of variable motor inertia in Induction motor drive system is proposed. The inertia of a load and a motor are estimated by using RLS (Recursive Least Square) algorithm. The speed controller is designed by Kharitonov theory of motor. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified with simulation and experiment results.
