  • The small GTPase RhoA has been studied extensively for its role in actin dynamics. In this study, multiple bioinformatics tools were applied cooperatively to the microarray dataset GSE64714 to explore previously unidentified functions of RhoA. Comparative gene expression analysis revealed 545 differentially expressed genes in RhoA-null cells versus controls. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was conducted with three gene set collections: (1) the hallmark, (2) the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway, and (3) the Gene Ontology Biological Process. GSEA results showed that RhoA is related strongly to diverse pathways: cell cycle/growth, DNA repair, metabolism, keratinization, response to fungus, and vesicular transport. These functions were verified by heatmap analysis, KEGG pathway diagramming, and direct acyclic graphing. The use of multiple gene set collections restricted the leakage of information extracted. However, gene sets from individual collections are heterogenous in gene element composition, number, and the contextual meaning embraced in names. Indeed, there was a limit to deriving functions with high accuracy and reliability simply from gene set names. The comparison of multiple gene set collections showed that although the gene sets had similar names, the gene elements were extremely heterogeneous. Thus, the type of collection chosen and the analytical context influence the interpretation of GSEA results. Nonetheless, the analyses of multiple collections made it possible to derive robust and consistent function identifications. This study confirmed several well-described roles of RhoA and revealed less explored functions, suggesting future research directions.

  • Experimental study was performed regarding the effects of disc-like filler orientation and contents on the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of polypropylene composites using the three dimensional ellipsoids ($a_1$ > $a_2$ > $a_3$) analyzed by two aspect ratios(${\rho}_{\alpha}=a_1/a_3$and ${\rho}_{\beta}=a_1/a_2$). Measured data were compared with the theoretical approaches proposed by Lee et al. Mica and talc were useed as disk-like fillers in the composites. As experimental results, ${\alpha}_{11}/{\alpha}_m$ decreased down to ca. 0.56 with mica content of 20 wt% and the aspect ratios, ${\rho}_{\alpha}=13.5$, ${\rho}_{\beta}=1.8$. However, ${\alpha}_{33}/{\alpha}_m$ increased to more than 1. In the case of talc, ${\alpha}_{11}/{\alpha}_m$ decreased to ca. 0.63 with 20 wt% and ${\rho}_{\alpha}=3.7$, ${\rho}_{\beta}=1.4$. Finally, the longitudinal CTEs (${\alpha}_{11}$) of polypropylene composites decreased as filler contents increased, but normal CTE (${\alpha}_{33}$) increased in the low filler contents like the theory.

  • The Nishitani's equations for impedance of anodic oxide films have been derived based on a p-i-n model under the assumption of $\omega$$\varepsilon$$\rho$$_{ο}$<<4$\pi$<<$\omega$$\varepsilon$$\rho$$_{\omega}$, where $\omega$ is angular frequency, $\varepsilon$ is dielectric constant, and $\rho$$_{ο}$ and $\rho$$_{\omega}$ are the resistivity of the interface region and the intrisic region of the anodic oxide film, respectively. Since it is not possible to evaluate all parameters in the equations, however, any clear physical picture cannot be obtained from the equations. Therefore, the equations are modified under the assumption of $\omega$$\tau$$_{\omega}$>>1 and In(1+$\omega$$^2$$\tau$$_{ο}$$^2$)<<1, where $\tau$$_{\omega}$=$\varepsilon$$\rho$$_{\omega}$(4$\pi$) and $\tau$$_{ο}$=$\varepsilon$$\rho$$_{ο}$/(4$\pi$). The modified equations are then used to explain the change in the frequency characteristics of anodic oxide films when they are heated. The change in impedance of anodic oxide films when they are heated is attributed mainly to the increase in the diffusion layer and to the decrease in the resistivity of anodic oxide films.s.

  • The theoretical study is developed for predicting the thermal expansion changes of composites which include complex inclusion, which is used three-dimensional ellipsoid model ($a_1>a_2>a_3$), which has two aspect ratios (the primary aspect ratio, $\rho_{\alpha}=a_1/a_3$ and the secondary aspect ratio, $\rho_{\beta}=a_1/a_2$). We can predict the feature of general thermal expansion factors by theoretical approach of matrix with aligned ellipsoidal inclusion using the Eshelby's equivalent tensor. The coefficients of longitudinal linear thermal expansion ${\alpha}_{11}$ decrease to those of inclusions, ${\alpha}_f$, as both aspect ratios increase. The coefficients of transverse linear thermal expansion of composites ${\alpha}_{33}$ initially increase and show the parabolic corves with maximum values, as the concentrations of filler increase. The coefficient of thermal expansion, ${\alpha}_{22}$ in the transverse direction decreases, as $\rho_{\alpha}$ increases, however, ${\alpha}_{22}$ increases as $\rho_{\beta}$ increases. The coefficient of linear thermal expansion of composites, ${\alpha}_{33}$ in the normal direction increases, as $\rho_{\alpha}$ increases, while ${\alpha}_{33}$ decreases as $\rho_{\beta}$ increases.

  • This paper studied the effects of the content and the orientation of the disk shape fillers on the modulus of PP composites. The experimental results were compared with the theoretical calculations which included the three dimensional ellipsoids and analyzed by two aspect ratios, ${\rho}_{\alpha}=a_1/a_3$and ${\rho}_{\beta}=a_1/a_2$proposed by Lee and his researchers. Mica and talc were used as disk shape fillers in the composites. The shapes of mica and talc were observed by SEM and aspect ratios were statistically calculated. For the case of mica, the average aspect ratios were ${\rho}_{\alpha}=13.5$ and ${\rho}_{\beta}=1.8$, and for the case of talc, they were ${\rho}_{\alpha}=3.8$ and ${\rho}_{\beta}=1.4$. Also, the effects of two aspect ratios and the content of filler on the mechanical properties were studied: For 30 wt% of mica, $E_{11}$ increased up to about 2.7 times, and for the other case of talc, $E_{11}$ increased up to about 2.3 times, respectively.

  • S. Tachibana [10] has defined a confornal Killing tensor in a n-dimensional Riemannian manifold M by a skew symmetric tensor $u_[ji}$ satisfying the equation $$ \nabla_k u_{ji} + \nabla_j u_{ki} = 2\rho_i g_{kj} - \rho_j g_{ki} - \rho_k g_{ji}, $$ where $g_{ji}$ is the metric tensor of M, $\nabla$ denotes the covariant derivative with respect to $g_{ji}$ and $\rho_i$ is a associated covector field of $u_{ji}$. In here, a covector field means a 1-form.

  • In this paper we investigate how $\rho-adic\;\theta$\theta$-function$ of Neron and Tate are related. As a result, we show that the $\rho-adic$ theta function defined by Neron and that defined by Tate are differ by an analytic function whose values are units.

  • First, we show the finiteness property of the homotopy fixed point set of p-discrete toral group. Let $G_\infty$ be a p-discrete toral group and X be a finite complex with an action of $G_\infty such that X^K$ is nilpotent for each finit p-subgroup K of $G_\infty$. Assume X is $F_\rho-complete$. Then X(sup)hG$\infty$ is F(sub)p-finite. Using this result, we give the condition so that X$^{hG}$ is $F_\rho-finite for \rho-compact$ toral group G.

  • Arches are constrained with rotational resistance at both edges. An energy method is used to derive variational formulation which is used to prove the existence of equilibrium states of elastic circular arches for the torsional spring constants ${\rho}-\;{\geq}\;0,\;{\rho}+\;{\geq}\;0,\;and\;{\rho}-\;+\;{\rho}+\;>\;0$. The boundary conditions are searched using the existence of minimum potential energy.
