  • Skin detection is used in many applications, such as face recognition, hand tracking, and human-computer interaction. There are many skin color detection algorithms that are used to extract human skin color regions that are based on the thresholding technique since it is simple and fast for computation. The efficiency of each color space depends on its robustness to the change in lighting and the ability to distinguish skin color pixels in images that have a complex background. For more accurate skin detection, we are proposing a new threshold based on RGB and YUV color spaces. The proposed approach starts by converting the RGB color space to the YUV color model. Then it separates the Y channel, which represents the intensity of the color model from the U and V channels to eliminate the effects of luminance. After that the threshold values are selected based on the testing of the boundary of skin colors with the help of the color histogram. Finally, the threshold was applied to the input image to extract skin parts. The detected skin regions were quantitatively compared to the actual skin parts in the input images to measure the accuracy and to compare the results of our threshold to the results of other's thresholds to prove the efficiency of our approach. The results of the experiment show that the proposed threshold is more robust in terms of dealing with the complex background and light conditions than others.

  • Tri-stimulus values of CIE-XYZ and RGB values obtained by photographic film, CCD camera or scanner depend on the spectral sensitivity of imaging devices and the spectral radiant distribution of the illumination. It is important to record and reproduce the reflectance spectra of the object for true device independent color reproduction and high accurate recording of the scene. In this paper, a method to record the reflection spectra of the object is introduced and its application to spectral endoscopes is presented.

  • This study presents an approach to reconstruct high-resolution imagery for multispectral imagery of low-resolution using panchromatic imagery of high-resolution. The proposed scheme reconstructs a high-resolution image which agrees with original spectral values. It uses a linear model of high-and low- resolution images and consists of two stages. The first one is to perform a global estimation of the least square error on the basis of a linear model of low-resolution image associated with high-resolution feature, and next local correction then makes the reconstructed image locally fit to the original spectral values. In this study, the new method was applied to KOMPSAT-1 EOC image of 6m and LANDSAT ETM+ of 30m, and an 1m RGB image was also generated from 4m IKONOS multispectral data. The results show its capability to reconstruct high-resolution imagery from multispectral data of low-resolution.

  • The input and output device requires precise color representation and CMS (Color Management System) because of the increasing number of ways to apply the digital image into electronic publishing. However, there are slight differences in the device dependent color signal among the input and output devices. Also, because of the non-linear conversion of the input signal value to the output signal value, there are color differences between the original copy and the output copy. It seems necessary for device-dependent color information values to change into device-independent color information values. When creating an original copy through electronic publishing, there should be color management with the input and output devices. From the devices' three phases of calibration, characterization and color conversion, the device-dependent color should undergo a color transformation into a device-independent color. In this paper, an experiment was done where the input device used the linear multiple regression and the sRGB color space to perform a color transformation. The output device used the GOG, GOGO and sRGB for the color transformation. After undergoing a color transformation in the input and output devices, the best results were created when the original target underwent a color transformation by the scanner and digital camera input device by the linear multiple regression, and the LCD output device underwent a color transformation by the GOG model.

  • Leaf colors of rice can be used to identify stress level due to its adaptation to environmental change. For most leaves green-related colors are sourced from chlorophyll a and b. For most leaves green-related colors are consisted of chlorophyll a and b. Chlorophyll concentration is normally measured using a spectrophotometer in laboratory. In some remote observation fields, it is impossible to collect the leaves, preserve them, and bring them to laboratory to measure their chlorophyll content. The measurement of chlorophyll content is observed through its color. Using CIE chromaticity diagram leaf color information in RGB is transformed into wavelength (in nm). Pheophytin contents were also analyzed in 95% ethanol extracts. In the process of leaf development of rice young seedling, both pigments were compared. Leaf samples from different rice seedling bed is taken, their colors and RGB values are recorded using Photoshop Image Analysis. SPAD-502 values were also measured. The chlorophyll and Pheophytin contents were fully estimated by ${\rightthreetimes}_{avg}$ on CIE chromaticity diagram.

  • In this paper, we propose the movement detection algorithm by using virtual skeleton model. To do this, first, we eliminate error values by using conventioanl method based on RGB color model and eliminate unnecessary values by using the HSI color model. Second, we construct the virtual skeleton model with skeleton information of 10 peoples. After matching this virtual model to original image, we extract the real head silhouette by using the proposed circle searching method. Third, we extract the object by using the mean-shift algorithm and this head information. Finally, we validate the applicability of the proposed method through the various experiments in a complex environments.

  • Objectives : Cupping therapy has been used as various treatment methods in oriental medicine clinic for a long time. Specially, Cupping stimulation caused skin hyperpigmentation which has been used as diagnosis method for extravasated blood & inner organs functional disease. But it was difficult to quantitatively measure and analyze the interrelation between extravasated blood and skin hyperpigmentation. The aim of this study is to measure the acupoint's RGB and melanin change pattern by stimulating under fixed 80kPa negative pressure and to evaluate the extravasated blood. Methods : To evaluate extravasated blood, 10 acupoints (left/right BL13, BL15, BL18, BL20, BL23) were stimulated by treatment 80kPa negative pressure for 1 minute. And then we measured the acupoints' skin color change patterns using the color meter, followed by RGB analysis and melanin change pattern. Results and Conclusions : We could observe the correlation of the acupoints' skin color condition related with RGB change pattern. All acupoints' color change degree were different. Regardless of acupoints' color degree due to extravasated blood, we observed in common the fact that RGB values decreased after stimulation and steadily increased according to time. We observed that melanin index increased after stimulation and recovered before stimulation-condition after the lapse of time. In other words, we confirmed the correlation between raised color change degree and $L^*a^*$ index change pattern. Therefore we observed the possibility of charting the $L^*a^*$ index following extravasated blood.

  • Epoxy polymer exposed to solar radiation on long-term is required to a long-term environmental test in order to ensure the reliability of operation performance. In this paper, the solar aging experiment is performed for 7, 14, 28, 56, and 84 cycles, using solar simulator designed according to MIL-STD-810. After the aging experiment, measuring RGB values and using the CIE1976 color space, each RGB decreasing rates and total color shift are calculated. In addition, using a universal testing machine, mechnical properties according to ASTM-D638 are measured. As a result, by increasing solar aging period, total color shift is increased, and the tensile strength and elongation are decreased, but the elastic modulus and the poisson's ratio are slightly changed.

  • The classification of the background and cell areas is very important research area because of the ambiguous boundary. In this paper, the region of cell is extracted from an image of uterine cervical cytodiagnosis using the region growing method that increases the region of interest based on similarity between pixels. Segmented image from background and cell areas is binarized using a threshold value. And then 8-directional tracking algorithm for contour lines is applied to extract the cell area. First, the extracted nucleus is transformed to RGB color that is the original image. Second, the K-means clustering algorithm is employed to classify RGB pixels to the R, G, and B channels, respectively. Third, the Hue information of nucleus is extracted from the HSI models that is the transformation of the clustering values in R, G, and B channels. The backpropagation algorithm is employed to classify and identify the normal or abnormal nucleus.

  • There are three types of urinalysis: physical test, chemical test, and microscopic test. Among these, the chemical urinalysis is an easily accessible method of the general public to compare the chemical reaction of urinalysis strip with a standard colorimetric table by sight or purchase the portable urinalysis machine separately. Currently, with the popularization of smartphone, research on the urinalysis service using smartphone is increasing. The urinalysis screening application is one of the urinalysis services using a smartphone. However, the RGB values of the urinalysis pad taken by the urinalysis screening application have large deviations due to the effect of lighting. Deviation of RGB value debases the accuracy of urinalysis discrimination. Therefore, in this paper, the accuracy of urinaylsis pad image discrimination is improved through CNN after classifying urinalysis strips taken by the urinalysis screening application based on smartphone by urinalysis pad items. Urinalysis strip was taken from various backgrounds to generate CNN image, and urinalysis discrimination was analyzed using the ResNet-50 CNN model.
