  • USN and RFID, as new technologies for realization of ubiquitous computing, are closely related with each other technically. Nevertheless, these technologies are recognized as a separate research topic, and there are few researches on technical convergence of the two research areas. In this paper, we propose an efficient processing method of various kinds of sensor data which are used in USN environment to provide efficiency from the view point of not only convergence of USN and RFID technologies but also cost and extensibility. Especially, we propose a method of conversion of various sensor data into EPC data format which can be handled in a RFID middleware. Using the proposed method, RFID middleware systems based on international standard specification can handle not only RFID tag data but also general sensor data efficiently, and various types of ubiquitous application services can be implemented at low cost and in a short time.

  • In ubiquitous spatial computing environments, GeoSensor generates sensor data streams including spatial information as well as various conventional sensor data from RFID, WSN, Web CAM, Digital Camera, CCTV, and Telematics units. This GeoSensor enables the revitalization of various ubiquitous USN technologies and services on geographic information. In order to service the u-GIS applications based on GeoSensors, it is indispensable to efficiently process sensor data streams from GeoSensors of a wide area. In this paper, we propose a GeoSensor data stream processing system for u-GIS computing over real-time stream data from GeoSensors with geographic information. The proposed system provides efficient gathering, storing, and continuous query processing of GeoSensor data stream, and also makes it possible to develop diverse u-GIS applications meet each user requirements effectively.

  • An RFID application needs to collect product's information scattered over the RFID network efficiently according to the globalization of RFID applied enterprises. To be informed of the stock status of products promptly in the supply chain network, especially, it is necessary to support queries that retrieve statistical information of tagged products. Since existing RFID network does not provide these kinds of queries, however, an application should request a query to several RFID middleware systems and analyze collected data directly. This process makes an application do a heavy computation for retrieving statistical information. To solve this problem, we define a new Distributed Continuous Query that finds information of tagged products from the global RFID network and provides statistical information to RFID applications. We also propose a Distributed Continuous Query System to process the distributed continuous query efficiently. To find out the movement of products via multiple RFID systems in real time, our proposed system uses Pedigree which represents trade information of items. Our system can also reduce the cost of query processing for removing duplicated data from multiple middleware systems by using Pedigree.

  • Pattern matching is increasingly being employed in various researches as health care service, RFID-based system, facility management, and surveillance. Geosensor filter correlates a data stream to match specific patterns in distribution environments. In this paper, we present a geosensor query language to represent efficiently declarative geosensor query. Geosensor operators are proposed to use for fast query processing in terms of spatial and temporal area in distribution environments. We also propose a geosensor filter to match new query predicates into incoming stream predicates. Our filter can reduce the volume of transmission data and save power consumption of sensors. It can be utilized the stream data mining system to process in real-time various data as location, time, and geosensor information in distribution environments.

  • RFID middleware systems collect and filter the RFID streaming data gathered continuously by numerous readers in order to process requests from applications. These requests are called continuous queries because they are kept on executing during certain periods. To enhance the performance of the middleware, it is required to build an index to process the continuous queries efficiently. Several approaches of building an index on not data records but queries, called Query Index, are proposed and widely used for evaluating continuous queries over streaming data. The EPCglobal proposed an Event Cycle Specification (ECSpec) model, which is a standard query interface for RFID applications. Continuous queries based on ECSpec consist of a large number of segments for representing the query conditions. The problem with using any of the existing query indexes on these continuous queries is that it takes a long time to build the index because it is necessary to insert a large number of segments into the index. To solve this problem, we propose an Aggregate Transformation that converts a group of segments into a compressed data which is representative of the segments. We compare the performance of a transformed index with the existing query indexes.

  • In an environment of home network where a number of technologies including heterogeneous hardware platforms, networking and protocols, middleware systems, and etc, exist, OSGi provides a platform for deployment and sharing of services managed in hardware and guarantees compatibility among applications. However, only simple control and processing of event data are considered in a home network using OSGi, and the consideration about real time processing of data stream generated by sensors is not enough. Therefore, researches allowing users to effectively develop OSGi applications by using various kinds of sensors generating data streams in the home network environment using OSGi are needed. In this paper, we propose an effective method of processing various types of real time data streams supplied to OSGi applications, including filtering, grouping, and counting, etc.

  • Recently, the spread of IoT technology has been spreading, and it has been applied to all industrial fields such as home / home appliance / medical care. Due to the low specification, low power consumption characteristic and communication data characteristic of IoT, implementation of existing algorithm is difficult thing. From this reason, we have proposed for the first time that encryption and decryption can be proceeded by introducing a kind of variable length bit XOR operation method which changes a variable the bit length value by using carry up and carry down method. We confirmed the practicality of encrypting short message data frequently processed by IoT device / QR code / RFID / NFC without changing the size of data before and after encryption.

  • This paper proposes the streaming radio frequency identification (RFID) protocol to support robust data streaming in a passive communication, which is extended from the ISO18000-6 Type C RFID standard. By observing and modeling the unique bit error behavior through detailed analysis in this paper, we found that performance is significantly limited by inaccurate and unstable link frequencies as well as low SNR which are inevitable for passive devices. Based on the analysis, we propose a simple and efficient protocol to adaptively insert extra error control sequences in a packet for tolerating tough link condition while maximizing the throughput and preserving the minimal implementation cost. To evaluate effectiveness of our proposal in real-time streaming applications, we experimented on real-time H.264 video streaming and prototyped the system on FPGA. To our best knowledge, our paper is the first work to take analytical approach for maximizing the throughput and demonstrate the possibility of the realtime multimedia streaming transmission in the passive RFID system.

  • The ALE specification of EPCglobal is leading the development of RFID standards, includes the Event Cycle Specification (ECSpec) describing how long a cycle is, how to filter RFID tag data and which reader is interested in. The ECSpec is a specification for filtering and collecting RFID tag data. It is registered to a middleware for long time and is evaluated to return results satisfying the requirements included in it. Thus, it is quite similar to the continuous query. It can be transformed into a continuous query as its predicate in WHERE clause is characterized by the long interval. Long intervals cause problems deteriorating insertion and search performance of existing query indices. In this paper, we propose a TLC-index as a new query index structure for long interval data. The TLC-index has hybrid structure that uses the cell construct of CQI-index with the virtual construct of VCR-index for partitioning long intervals. The TLC-index can reduce the storage cost and improve the insertion performance through decomposing long intervals into one or more cell constructs that have long size. It can also improve the search performance through decomposing short intervals into one or more virtual constructs that have short size enough to fit into those intervals.

  • The conventional sensor tag data filtering algorithm uses time window based data filtering for each tag data. However, this approach shows many performance problems such as low error and event detection rate and larger storage size requirement. In this paper, we propose a collaborative sensor tag data filtering algorithm to improve sensor data processing performance. simulation study shows that the proposed sensor tag filtering algorithm outperforms the conventional filtering algorithm in terms of the processing time, the size of required data storage memory and accuracy of error and event detection rate.
