  • In discrete multi-tone (DMT)-based very high bit-rate digital subscriber line (VDSL) systems, the ingressed RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) accompanied by transmitted signal at the receiver is known to cause the spectralleakage by the finite-point FFT, resulting in significant performance degradation.0 this paper, we propose a RFIcancellation technique which can compensate the ingressed RFI efficiently, especially for a high data-rate VDSLsystem. The proposed technique compensates the performance degradation of e VDSL system due to RFI byusing a time-domain RFI canceller whose coefficients are obtained from the estimated center frequency of RFI inthe frequency domain under the assumption that the ingressed RFI is a narrow-band signal compared to VDSLsampling frequency. The proposed technique requires no training symbol and convergence period, and worksproperly even when spectral shape of the ingressed RFI is unknown or arbitrary. Feasibility of the proposedtechnique is demonstrated via a computer simulation by comparing its performance with the performance of theprevious RFI cancellation technique.

  • Objective: This study was conducted to enhance our understanding of nitrogen (N) metabolism and mammary amino acid (AA) utilization in lactating cows with divergent phenotypes of residual feed intake (RFI). Methods: Fifty-three multiparous mid-lactation Holstein dairy cows were selected for RFI measurements over a 50-d experimental period. The 26 cows with the most extreme RFI values were classified into the high RFI (n = 13) and low RFI (n = 13) groups, respectively, for analysis of N metabolism and AA utilization. Results: Compared with the high RFI cows, the low RFI animals had lower dry matter intake (p<0.01) with no difference observed in milk yield between the two groups (p>0.10). However, higher ratios of milk yield to dry matter intake (p<0.01) were found in the low RFI cows than in the high RFI cows. The low RFI cows had significant greater ratios of milk protein to metabolizable protein (p = 0.02) and milk protein to crude protein intake than the high RFI cows (p = 0.01). The arterial concentration and mammary uptake of essential AA (p<0.10), branched-chain AA (p<0.10), and total AA (p<0.10) tended to be lower in the low RFI cows. Additionally, the low RFI cows tended to have a lower ratio of AA uptake to milk output for essential AA (p = 0.08), branched-chain AA (p = 0.07) and total AA (p = 0.09) than the high RFI cows. Conclusion: In summary, both utilization of metabolizable protein for milk protein and mammary AA utilization are more efficient in cows with lower RFI than in the high RFI cows. Our results provide new insight into the protein metabolic processes (related to N and AA) involved in feed efficiency.

  • Radio sources are very weak, as they can travel through large distances. Radio sources also have photons with low energies compared to others electromagnetic waves (EM). Microwave photons have a little more energy than radio waves, infrared photons have still more, then visible, ultraviolet, X-rays, and the most energetic electromagnetic wave is gamma-rays. Radio astronomy studies are restricted due to radio frequency interference (RFI) produced by people. If this disturbance is not minimized, it poses critical problems for astrophysical studies. The purpose of this paper is to profile RFI maps in Peninsular Malaysia with a minimum mapping technique for RFI interference. Decision-making processes using GIS (Geographical Information System) for the selection requires gathering information for a variety of parameters. These factors affecting the selection process are also taken into account. In this study, various factors or parameters are involved, such as the availability of telecommunications transmission (including radio and television), rainfall, water lines and human activity. This mapping step must be followed by RFI site testing in order to identify areas of low RFI. This study will benefit radio astronomy research, especially regarding the RFI profile.

  • Residual feed intake(RFI), a linear index, is a trait derived from the difference between actual feed intake and that predicted on the basis of the requirements for maintenance of body weight and production. This study was conducted to estimate RFI genetic parameters of swine in Korea, and used 8,696 of productions data of Duroc swine species which were born from 2001 to 2014. Correlation between average daily gain and RFI breeding value has been investigated by negative correlation of -0.2(P>0.01). Estimates of heritability for RFI1(residual feed intake calculated from model average dily gain) and RFI2(residual feed intake calculated from model average dily gain and backfat) were 0.37 and 0.45. From the genetic parameter estimates found in this study, selection for low RFI in Duroc pigs has the potential to improve feed conversion ratio and reduce feed intake.

  • Objective: The feed intake (FI) and feed efficiency are economically important traits in ducks. To obtain insight into this economically important trait, we designed an experiment based on the residual feed intake (RFI) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) of a random population Pekin duck. Methods: Two thousand and twenty pedigreed random population Pekin ducks were established from 90 males mated to 450 females in two hatches. Traits analyzed in the study were body weight at the 42th day (BW42), 15 to 42 days average daily gain (ADG), 15 to 42 days FI, 15 to 42 days FCR, and 15 to 42 days RFI to assess their genetic interrelationships. The genetic parameters for feed efficiency traits were estimated using restricted maximum likelihood (REML) methodology applied to a sire-dam model for all traits using the ASREML software. Results: Estimates heritability of BW42, ADG, FI, FCR, and RFI were 0.39, 0.38, 0.33, 0.38, and 0.41, respectively. The genetic correlation was high between RFI and FI (0.77) and moderate between RFI and FCR (0.54). The genetic correlation was high and moderate between FCR and ADG (-0.80), and between FCR and BW42 (-0.64), and between FCR and FI (0.49), respectively. Conclusion: Thus, selection on RFI was expected to improve feed efficiency, and reduce FI. Selection on RFI thus improves the feed efficiency of animals without impairing their FI and increase growth rate.

  • In this paper, a new high-frequency equivalent circuit model of printed spiral coils (PSCs) for radio-frequency interference (RFI) measurement has been proposed. To achieve high-frequency modeling, the proposed model consists of distributed components designed based on the design parameters of the PSCs. In addition, an analytic model for PSCs based on T-pi conversion has been proposed. To investigate the feasibility of the proposed model for RFI measurement, the transfer function between a microstrip line and a PSC has been extracted by combining the proposed model and mutual inductance. The self-impedances of the proposed model and the transfer function have been successfully validated using three-dimensional field simulation and measurements, revealing noticeable correlations up to a frequency of 6 GHz. The proposed model can be employed for high-frequency probe design and RFI noise estimation in the gigahertz range wireless communication bands.

  • The RFI process can be applied to very thick structures without limiting the resin viscosity. When the proper thickness of the resin film cannot be set, the resin film creates either the non-impregnated section or the excessive resin contents and this leads to the deterioration of mechanical properties. Therefore, this study proposed a method for setting the resin film thickness in the RFI process. The fiber compaction behavior test was proposed by setting the proper resin film thickness and the properties of composites were evaluated through short beam shear strength test, compression test and porosity measurement to verify the proposed method. The evaluation of physical properties of composites was conducted and an appropriate level of resin film thickness was found based on the results of fiber compaction behavior test.

  • Objective: The objective of this study was to estimate the genetic correlation (rpc) of growth performance between purebred (Duroc and Korean native) and synthetic (WooriHeukDon) pigs using a single-step method. Methods: Phenotypes of 15,902 pigs with genotyped data from 1,792 pigs from a nucleus farm were used for this study. We estimated the rpc of several performance traits between WooriHeukDon and purebred pigs: day of target weight (DAY), backfat thickness (BF), feed conversion rate (FCR), and residual feed intake (RFI). The variances and covariances of the studied traits were estimated by an animal multi-trait model that applied the Bayesian inference. Results: rpc within traits was lower than 0.1 for DAY and BF, but high for FCR and RFI; in particular, rpc for RFI between Duroc and WooriHeukDon pigs was nearly 1. Comparison between different traits revealed that RFI in Duroc pigs was associated with different traits in WooriHeukDon pigs. However, the most of rpc between different traits were estimated with low or with high standard deviation. Conclusion: The results indicated that there were substantial differences in rpc of traits in the synthetic WooriHeukDon pigs, which could be caused by these pigs having a more complex origin than other crossbred pigs. RFI was strongly correlated between Duroc and WooriHeukDon pigs, and these breeds might have similar single nucleotide polymorphism effects that control RFI. RFI is more essential for metabolism than other growth traits and these metabolic characteristics in purebred pigs, such as nutrient utilization, could significantly affect those in synthetic pigs. The findings of this study can be used to elucidate the genetic architecture of crossbred pigs and help develop new breeds with target traits.
