Optical wireless communication, or free space optics, is a promising solution for backhauls in sixth-generation mobile systems. However, the susceptibility of optical links to weather conditions has led to FSO links being furnished with radio frequency (RF) backups. These Hybrid FSO/RF systems provide enhanced link availability but lead to RF resource wastage. Cognitive radio technology, in contrast, is well known for its optimal use of RF resources and may be combined with an FSO link to create a Cognitive Hybrid FSO/RF system. This work uses such a system to analyze a configuration for a mobile backhaul in sixth-generation mobile systems. This configuration can seamlessly coexist with established large scale RF cellular networks. The performance of this configuration is analyzed with respect to outage probability and average bit error by considering the impact of optical channel turbulence, misalignment loss, RF interference, and noise. Mathematical closed-form expressions are verified by simulations.
Silicon carbide (SiC) has recently drawn an enormous industrial interest because of its useful mechanical properties such as thermal resistance, abrasion resistance and thermal conductivity at high temperature. RF Thermal plasma (PL-35 Induction Plasma, Tekna CO., Canada) has been utilized for synthesis of high purity SiC powder from cheap inorganic solution (Tetraethyl Orthosilicate, TEOS). It is found that the powders by thermal plasma consist of SiC with free carbon and amorphous silica ($SiO_2$) and, by thermal treatment and HF treatment, the impurities are driven off resulting high purity SiC nano-powder. The synthesized SiC powder lies below 30 nm and its properties such microstructure, phase composition, specific surface area and free carbon content have been characterized by X-ay diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), thermogravimetric (TG) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET).
Free-space optical (FSO) communication is considered to be a potential solution to congestion in the radio-frequency spectrum and last-mile-access bottleneck issues in future cellular communication networks, such as 5G and beyond. However, FSO link performance may degrade significantly due to irradiance fluctuations and random temporal fluctuations from atmospheric turbulence. Therefore, in this work the main objective is to reduce the effect of the atmospheric turbulence by considering a multihop FSO communication system with amplify-and-forward relaying supported by a radio-frequency (RF) link, which form a hybrid FSO/RF communication system. The FSO link is assumed to follow the gamma-gamma fading model, which represents strong turbulence. Also, the RF link is modeled by a Rayleigh distribution. The performance of the considered system, in terms of the outage probability and average bit-error rate (BER), is investigated and analyzed under various weather conditions and pointing errors. Furthermore, the effect of the number of employed relay nodes on the performance of the system is investigated. The results indicate that the considered system reduces outage probability and average BER significantly, especially for low channel quality. Finally, the closed-form expressions derived in this work are compared to the results of Monte Carlo simulations, for verification.

Due to metallicity of materials, a vessel has a limitation to adopt RF-based wireless communication technologies for the inner communication means. Visible Light Communication(VLC) can be a sound alternative to dissolve such a limitation. Using a visual light as a transmission medium, VLC is free from radio interferences and restriction of radio usages which are typically related to RF-based wireless communications. In addition, VLC can not only require the facility cost relatively low because of being possibly converged with existing LED illumination, but also be harmless to the human body. This paper proposes an indoor location-based emergency call service system solution for ships using the VLC technology that supports 256Kbps data rate and 5m transmission distance. This paper presents real implementation and testing results of the solution which verifies the propriety of the proposal.
We reported compositional separation(CS) into Co-enriched and Cri-enriched components inside the grains of Co-Cr based thin films prepared by rf sputtering. CS strongly depends on the sputtering conditions of substrate temperature and target composition. Tuning the microstructure of the Co-Cr films is important in order to employ the CS for high-density magnetic recording. We investigated the origin of CS from thermodynamic viewpoint. We employ a spinodal decomposition-like model to describe the origin of the CS in Co-Cr films. We consider the total free energy of the Co-Cr films as the sum of several free energies of; 1) thermodynamic mixing entropy of a binary solid solution, 2) magnetic ordering interaction(MOI) energy below the Curie temperature, and 3) excess interaction energy(XS) caused by the sputtering process as a function of temperature and composition. Those energies distorted the total free energy like the spinodal decomposition and caused the compositionally separated fine microstructure inside the grains. If the second derivative of the total free energy with respect to Cr composition becomes negative at a given substrate temperature, we may observe a metastable compositional separation inside the Co-Cr alloy films. We expect to exploit the microstructure of CS for ultra-high density magnetic recording.

In this paper, the vector finite elements are adopted to calculate eigenvalues of RF and microwave components. Simulation results show that spurious are completely avoided because of the divergence free nature of the vector elements. This paper seeks to extend these low-order elements to higher orders to improve the accuracy of numerical solution. Investigation of numerical results for a rectangular waveguide was provided. A vector finite element program was implemented to allow propagation constants and electric field distributions to be directly computed in the rectangular and circular waveguides which are partially filled with the dielectric.
Spin dynamics of magnetic tunnel junctions with free and fixed reference layers is investigated by ferromagnetic resonance micromagnetic simulations. First, in magnetic tunnel junctions with an exchange biased synthetic ferrimagnetic reference layer, a magnetization direction of each layer and the tunneling magnetoresistance are calculated for a DC magnetic field. To investigate the spin exciting modes in magnetic tunnel junctions, we simulate the ferromagnetic resonance frequency spectra with small RF magnetic fields. Exciting modes of the tunneling magnetoresistance calculated by an included angle between free and reference layers is interpreted from those of each layer. Spin exciting modes are different according to a signs of the DC magnetic field. In a negative magnetic field, FMR frequency spectra of free and reference layers are well elucidated by the modified Kittel's equation. However, in a positive magnetic field, there is no simple analytic solution related to FMR frequency spectra due to the coupled modes. Since ferromagnetic layers in magnetic tunnel junctions are interactive each other, careful considerations of the reference and fixed layer as well as the free layer are required for understanding on the spin dynamics of magnetic tunnel junctions with an exchange biased synthetic ferrimagnetic reference layer.

Copper zinc tin sulfide ($Cu_2ZnSnS_4$, CZTS) is a very promising material as a low cost absorber alternative to other chalcopyrite-type semiconductors based on Ga or In because of the abundant and economical elements. In addition, CZTS has a band-gap energy of 1.4~1.5eV and large absorption coefficient over ${\sim}10^4cm^{-1}$, which is similar to those of $Cu(In,Ga)Se_2$(CIGS) regarded as one of the most successful absorber materials for high efficient solar cell. Most previous works on the fabrication of CZTS thin films were based on the vacuum deposition such as thermal evaporation and RF magnetron sputtering. Although the vacuum deposition has been widely adopted, it is quite expensive and complicated. In this regard, the solution processes such as sol-gel method, nanocrystal dispersion and hybrid slurry method have been developed for easy and cost-effective fabrication of CZTS film. Among these methods, the hybrid slurry method is favorable to make high crystalline and dense absorber layer. However, this method has the demerit using the toxic and explosive hydrazine solvent, which has severe limitation for common use. With these considerations, it is highly desirable to develop a robust, easily scalable and relatively safe solution-based process for the fabrication of a high quality CZTS absorber layer. Here, we demonstrate the fabrication of a high quality CZTS absorber layer with a thickness of 1.5~2.0 ${\mu}m$ and micrometer-scaled grains using two different non-vacuum approaches. The first solution-processing approach includes air-stable non-toxic solvent-based inks in which the commercially available precursor nanoparticles are dispersed in ethanol. Our readily achievable air-stable precursor ink, without the involvement of complex particle synthesis, high toxic solvents, or organic additives, facilitates a convenient method to fabricate a high quality CZTS absorber layer with uniform surface composition and across the film depth when annealed at $530^{\circ}C$. The conversion efficiency and fill factor for the non-toxic ink based solar cells are 5.14% and 52.8%, respectively. The other method is based on the nanocrystal dispersions that are a key ingredient in the deposition of thermally annealed absorber layers. We report a facile synthetic method to produce phase-pure CZTS nanocrystals capped with less toxic and more easily removable ligands. The resulting CZTS nanoparticle dispersion enables us to fabricate uniform, crack-free absorber layer onto Mo-coated soda-lime glass at $500^{\circ}C$, which exhibits a robust and reproducible photovoltaic response. Our simple and less-toxic approach for the fabrication of CZTS layer, reported here, will be the first step in realizing the low-cost solution-processed CZTS solar cell with high efficiency.

This study demonstrates the performance of flexible surface wave resonators in spaces on a ship to overcome environmental limits like non-metallic walls where conventional surface wave resonators cannot installable. Although test results in plane structures show that the performance of conventional surface wave resonators are better than the flexible ones, the results are reversed in curved structures. Flexible surface wave resonators can be installed on metal-pipes that connects all spaces in a ship, and this will allow to build ultimate communication network all over the ship including the rooms like cabins or bridges that are enclosed in non-metallic walls.

The aim of this study is to investigate the feasibility of ex vivo MR diffusion tensor imaging technique in order to observe the diffusion-contrast characteristics of human gastric tissues. On normal and pathologic gastric tissues, which have been fixed in a polycarbonate plastic tube filled with 10% formalin solution, laboratory made 3D diffusion tensor Turbo FLASH pulse sequence was used to obtain high resolution MR images with voxel size of $0.5{\times}0.5{\times}0.5mm^3\;using\;64{\times}32{\times}32mm^3$ field of view in conjunction with an acquisition matrix of $128{\times}64{\times}64$. Diffusion weighted- gradient pulses were employed with b values of 0 and $600s/mm^2$ in 6 orientations. The sequence was implemented on a clinical 3.0-T MRI scanner(Siemens, Erlangen, Germany) with a home-made quadrature-typed birdcage Tx/Rx rf coil for small specimen. Diffusion tensor values in each pixel were calculated using linear algebra and singular value decomposition(SVD) algorithm. Apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC) and fractional anisotropy(FA) map were also obtained from diffusion tensor data to compare pixel intensities between normal and abnormal gastric tissues. The processing software was developed by authors using Visual C++(Microsoft, WA, U.S.A.) and mathematical/statistical library of GNUwin32(Free Software Foundation). This study shows that 3D diffusion tensor Turbo FLASH sequence is useful to resolve fine micro-structures of gastric tissue and both ADC and FA values in normal gastric tissue are higher than those in abnormal tissue. Authors expect that this study also represents another possibility of gastric carcinoma detection by visualizing diffusion characteristics of proton spins in the gastric tissues.
