  • In this paper, data transmission corrugated horn antenna for RF sensor satellite system and its radiation characteristic are presented. The proposed antenna is designed, fabricated and measured to obtain the maximum gain at ${\pm}60^{\circ}$ of its radiation patterns. The result of the proposed antenna is that the return loss is less than -15 dB and the gain is over 5 dBi at ${\pm}60^{\circ}$ of its radiation patterns. From these results, it is confirmed that the proposed can be used as data transmission corrugated horn antenna for RF sensor satellite system.

  • In KORDI (Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute), the KOSC (Korea Ocean Satellite Center) construction project is being prepared for acquisition, processing and distribution of sensor data via L-band from GOCI (Geostationary Ocean Color Imager) instrument which is loaded on COMS (Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite); it will be launched in 2008. Ansan (the headquarter of KORDI) has been selected for the location of KOSC between 5 proposed sites, because it has the best condition to receive radio wave. The data acquisition system is classified into antenna and RF. Antenna is designed to be $\phi$ 9m cassegrain antenna which has 19.35 G/T$(dB/^{\circ}K)$ at 1.67GHz. RF module is divided into LNA (low noise amplifier) and down converter, those are designed to send only horizontal polarization to modem. The existing building is re-designed and arranged for the KOSC operation concept; computing room, board of electricity, data processing room, operation room. Hardware and network facilities have been designed to adapt for efficiency of each functions. The distribution system which is one of the most important systems will be constructed mainly on the internet. and it is also being considered constructing outer data distribution system as a web hosting service for offering received data to user less than an hour.

  • In emergency rescue situations, the localization accuracy of the rescue requestor is a very important factor in determining the success or failure of the rescue. Indoors where Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is not operated, there is no choice but to use Wi-Fi or LTE signals. However, the performance of the current emergency rescue system utilizing those RF signals is exceedingly low. In this study, the effectiveness of the surface correlation technology using the accumulated signal pattern of RF signals was verified in relation to the emergency localization technology. To validate the proposed system, we configured and tested an emergency rescue scenario in multi-floors building. When the emergency rescue was requested, it was confirmed that the initial localization error was large owing to the short length of the accumulated signal pattern. However, the localization error decreased over time, which eventually led to the accurate location information being delivered to the rescuer.

  • In this paper, we studied a spectrum sensing algorithm for the efficient use of available spectrum in RF energy harvesting system combined with backscatter communication. We first looked for white spaces and then, selected low fading channel among white spaces using spectrum sensing algorithm at a transmitter. The transmitter employing the algorithm alleviates signal interference and improves the received signal strength indication through signals transmitted by low fading channel. The proposed RF energy harvesting system combined with backscatter communication is used the transmitter employing the algorithm. As a result of computer simulations, we can find the performance improvements of RF energy harvesting, BER of backscatter communication, and the received signal strength per distance of backscatter tag.

  • At COMS SOC, 13m antenna system will serve to transmit command and receive telemetry in S-Band for COMS operation. In addition, Sensor Data and LRIT/HRIT in L-Band will be received and LRIT/HRIT in S-Band will be transmitted through this antenna system. In many cases, G/T is used as barometer to estimate the receiving capability of antenna system. To estimate G/T, this paper presents two approaches, one is analysis based on the specification of antenna and RF equipment while the other is measurement by using Sun. From the results, G/T was proven as more than 20dB/K and it means that the required G/T, 19dB/K is verified successfully.

  • As for satellite programs, the multipurpose satellite 1(KOMPSAT-1) was successfully launched on Dec. 21, 1999 and operated for three years. It is still properly operated even though its life cycle was ended. The development of KOMPSAT-2 (Korea Multipurpose Satellite-2) is near completion and the development of KOMPSAT-3, KOMPSAT-5 and COMS (Communication, Ocean, Meterological Satellite) are proceeding swiftly. In KORDI(Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute), the KOSC (Korea Ocean Satellite Center) construction project is being prepared for acquisition, processing and distribution of sensor data via L-band from GOCI(Geostationary Ocean Color Imager) instrument which is loaded on COMS(Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite); it will be launched in 2000. • In this paper, the key technologies of Navigation receiver for GNSS sensor station are presented as a development result of a GNSS ground station in ETRI. A wide-band antenna and RF/IF components and SW signal processing unit to cover the GPS and Galileo signals for GNSS receiver are developed and its performance is verified by using GPS live signal and GNSS RF signal simulator from SpirentTM. We also gather GIOVE-A signal by using H/W antenna and RF/IF units in IF-level as sampling frequency and bit number, 112MHz and 8bits, respectively by using the developed wide-band antenna and RF/IF components. Data acquisition is done by using commercial data acquisition device from National Instrument TM. The gathered data is fed into SW receiver to process Galileo E1 to verify Galileo signal processing by Galileo live signal from GIOVE-A.
