  • Visible Light Communication (VLC) is a promising wireless communication technology. It offers huge, worldwide available and free bandwidth without electro-magnetic interference, which makes it very attractive for RF-sensitive operating environments. We propose colored LED-based VLC system for hospital use which includes voice recognition system for operating the medical equipments. New Mr hlation Scheme based on the Light Color Space is suggested to overcome the effect of noise generated by background light. Different color space constellations for different symbol sizes are also suggested which would give better bit error rate performance. Finally, Slotted ALOHA or TDMA medium access control protocols are suggested for multi-user operations.

  • The Global Positioning System (GPS), Inertial Navigation System (INS) and Pseudolite (PL) technologies all play very important roles in navigation systems. As an independent navigation system, GPS can provide high precision positioning results which are independent of time. However, the performance will become unreliable when the system experiences high dynamics, or when the receiver is exposed to jamming or RF interference. In comparison to GPS, though INS is autonomous and provides good short-term accuracy, its use as a standalone navigation system is limited due to the time-dependent growth of the inertial sensor errors. PLs are ground-based transmitters that can transmit GPS-like signals. They have some advantages in that their positions can be determined precisely, and the Signal-to-Noise Ratios (SNR) are relatively high. Because their combined performance, in principle, overcomes the shortcomings of the individual systems, the integration of GPS, INS and PL is increasingly receiving attention from researchers. Depending on the desired performance vs complexity, system integration can be carried out at different levels, namely loose, tight and ultra-tight coupling. Compared with loose and tight integration, although it is more complex in terms of system design, ultra-tight integration will be the basis of the next generation of reliable and robust navigation systems. Its main advantages include improved performance under exposure to high dynamics, and jamming and RF interference mitigation. This paper presents an overview of the ultra-tight integration developments and discusses some of the challenging issues.

  • The PLT thin films on (100) cleaved MgO single crystal substrate have been fabricated by rf magnetron sputtering using a PbO-rich target. The dependence of physical and electrical properties on the degree of c-axis orientation has been studied. The degree of c-axis orientation of PLT thin films depends on fabrication conditions. Fabrication conditions of the PLT thin films were such that substrate temperature, working pressure, gas ratio of $Ar/O_{2}$, and rf power density were $640^{\circ}C$, 10 mTorr, 10 seem, and $1.7\;W/cm^{2}$, respectively. In these conditions, the PLT thin film showed the Pb/Ti ratio of 1/2 at the surface, the resistivity of $8{\times}10^{11}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, and dielectric constant of 110. The pyroelectric infrared sensors with these PLT thin films showed the peak to peak voltage of 450 m V and signal to noise ratio of 7.2.

  • In this paper, the relationship of chamber contamination and the intensity change of specific wavelength was investigated. "diff_CO" formula was introduced to rule out background noise caused by external conditions and to detect when the polymer is removed from the chamber. As RF time increased, diff_CO trend showed the decrease of the maximum peak and increased number of small intensity peaks. From the diff_CO change, it was possible to determine when the chamber needs to be cleaned without opening the chamber.

  • This paper presents design of a wide tuning range digitally controlled oscillator(DCO) for Mobile-DTV applications. DCO is the key element of the ADPLL block that generates oscillation frequencies. We proposed a binary delay chain(BDC) structure, for wide tuning range DCO, modifying conventional fixed delay chain. The proposed structure generates oscillation frequencies by delay cell combination which has a variable delay time of $2^i$ in the range of $0{\leq}i{\leq}n-1$. The BOC structure can reduce the number of delay cells because it make possible to select delay cell and resolution. We simulated the proposed DCO by Cadence's Spectre RF tool in 1.8V chartered $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process. The simulation results showed 77MHz~2.07GHz frequency range and 3ps resolution. The phase noise yields -101dBc/Hz@1MHz at Mobile-DTV maximum frequency 1675MHz and the power consumption is 5.87mW. The proposed DCO satisfies Mobile-DTV standards such as ATSC-M/H, DVB-H, ISDB-T, T-DMB.

  • This study suggests the development of the ALE (Automatic Link Establishment) system for the long-range communication with a helicopter at the lands or marines by HF (High Frequency) radios. In the condition of LOS or more than 35 NM, the communication success rate is significantly lowered when the frequency is manually selected because of the reduced transmission power and various strong RF environment noise signals. In this paper, we make an effort to overcome the difficulties of choosing the optimal frequency when the operating frequency selection is manually operated in long-distance communication or LOS uncertain environment. The ALE system is designed based on the frequency analysis propagation software and is verified that the communication success rate is increased by applying the proposed system. The ALE system was applied to the helicopter system and the ground/flight test was conducted. As a result, the superiority and efficiency of the proposed system were verified.

  • Until now, Electroencephalography(: EEG) has been the most important and convenient method for the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy. However, it is difficult to identify the wave characteristics of an epileptic EEG signals because it is very weak, non-stationary and has strong background noise. In this paper, we analyse the effect of dimensionality reduction methods on Epileptic EEG feature selection and classification. Three dimensionality reduction methods: Pincipal Component Analysis(: PCA), Kernel Principal Component Analysis(: KPCA) and Linear Discriminant Analysis(: LDA) were investigated. The performance of each method was evaluated by using Support Vector Machine SVM, Logistic Regression(: LR), K-Nearestneighbor(: K-NN), Decision Tree(: DR) and Random Forest(: RF). From the experimental result, PCA recorded 75% of highest accuracy in SVM, LR and K-NN. KPCA recorded 85% of best performance in SVM and K-KNN while LDA achieved 100% accuracy in K-NN. Thus, LDA dimensionality reduction is found to provide the best classification result for epileptic EEG signal.

  • This paper presents a crystal-less reference clock recovery (CR) frequency synthesizer with compensation designed for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Smart-tag applications, operating at frequencies of 32, 72, and 80MHz. In contrast to conventional frequency synthesizers, the proposed design eliminates the need for external components. Using a single-ended antenna to receive a minimal input power of -36dBm at a 2.4GHz signal, the CR synthesizes frequencies by processing the RF signal received through a Low Noise Amplifier ( L N A ) . This approach allows the system to generate a reference clock without relying on a crystal. The received signal is amplified by the LNA and then input to a 16-bit ACC (Automatic Clock Compensation) circuit. The ACC compares the frequency of the received signal with the oscillator output signal, using the synthesis of a 32MHz reference clock through a frequency compensation method. The oscillator is constructed using a Ring Oscillator (RO) with a Frequency Divider, offering three different frequencies (32/72/80MHz) for various system components. The proposed frequency synthesizer is implemented using a 55-nm CMOS process.

  • In this paper, a cascade of a wideband amplifier and a high-Q bandpass filter (BPF) has been realized in a 0.18mm CMOS technology for the applications of subsampling direct-conversion receivers. The wideband amplifier is designed to obtain the -3dB bandwidth of 5.4GHz, and the high-Q BPF is designed to select a 2.4GHz RF signal for the Bluetooth specifications. The measured results demonstrate 18.8dB power gain at 2.34GHz with 31MHz bandwidth, corresponding to the quality factor of 75. Also, it shows the noise figure (NF) of 8.6dB, and the broadband input matching (S11) of less than -12dB within the bandwidth. The whole chip dissipates 64.8mW from a single 1.8V supply and occupies the area of $1.0{\times}1.0mm2$.
