RCD Snubber Design and Analysis using Resonance Coordinate

  • An approach to design and analyze an RCD snubber for flyback converters will be introduced. The resonance coordinate provides an easy way to understand the transient period of the switch turn-off and helps to design and analyze the RCD snubber easily. An example of analyzing RCD snubber losses for 40W prototype will be given and experimented to show the effectiveness of the suggested method.

Flyback-type Snubber of High Efficiency for 10kV IGCT in 7MW Wind Turbine Systems

  • 10kV IGCT has been recently developed and has the potential to push wind turbine systems to higher power and voltage rating. Converters employing IGCTs need snubber and OVP circuit to limit the rate of rise of current and peak over voltage across IGCT during turn on and off state respectively. The conventional RCD snubber which is used in such power converter dissipates a significant amount of power. In order to reduce the amount of energy lost by conventional RCD snubber, this paper proposes an isolated inductor snubber circuit that not only meets all of the IGCTs characteristics during on and off-state but also significantly saves the power loss. Loss analysis of conventional di/dt snubber and OVP circuit is performed for the 3-level NPC type back-to-back VSC supplied from grid voltage of 6.9kV. In comparison with the conventional snubber, isolated inductor snubber has a fewer number of components and improved efficiency leading to a reliable and efficient wind turbine systems.

  • In this paper, We have researched about the Electronic Ballast for 250W HPS(High Pressure Sodium) lamp. This Electronic Ballast is capable to operate the Ignition and Steady State Using the Class D LCC resonant tank, and minimizing the full-bridge inverter's Switching Stress by implementation Quasi-square ZC-ZVS Soft Switching Method. And also, We have reduced the heat of MOS-FETs and high frequency switching surge noise using the RCD damp snubber. Therefore, We are sure that the developed ballast has the properties of the stable & reliable Control and the function of minimizing the total noise of the system.

  • This paper proposes a snubber circuit for flying capacitor 3-level inverter and converter. The proposed snubber circuit makes use of Undeland snubber as basic snubber unit. It has such an advantage of Undeland snubber used in the two-level inverter. Compared with conventional RLD/RCD snubber for 3-level inverter and converter, the proposed snubber keeps such good features as fewer number of components, reduction of voltage stress of main switching devices due to low overvoltage, and improved efficiency of system due to low snubber loss. In this paper, the proposed snubber is applied to multilevel flying capacitor inverter and its feature is demonstrated by computer simulation and experimental result.

  • 지금까지 멀티레벨 컨버터 및 인버터에 적용되어온 기존의 스너버는 턴온 스너버로 RLD 스너버 턴오프 스너버로 RCD 스너버를 사용하였으나 이들 RCD/RLD는 많은 소자를 필요로하며 스위칭시의 overvoltage와 스너버 손실이 큰 단점을 지니고 있다. 이와같은 문제점을 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는 Diode-clamped 4-레벨 컨버터 및 인버터를 위한 새로운 스너버를 제안한다. 새로 제안하는 스너버는 Basic snubber unit로 특성이 좋은 Undeland 스너버와 수정된 RCD/RLD 스너버를 사용한다. 따라서 제안하는 스너버는 Undeland 스너버와 McMuray 스너버가 갖고 있는 특성 즉 사용소자의 수의 감소 과전압의 감소 스너버 손실의 감소 등과 좋은 특성을 지니고 있다 또한 본 논문에서 제안하는 4-레벨 컨버터 및 인버터를 위한 스너버 회로를 구성하는 방법은 다른 레벨의 멀티레벨 컨버터 및 인버터에도 적용가능하다,

Magnetic Design of Flyback Type Snubber for IGCT Applications

  • 10kV IGCT has been recently developed and has the potential to push wind turbine systems to higher power and voltage rating. The conventional RCD snubber which is used in such power converter dissipates a significant amount of power. In order to reduce the amount of energy lost by conventional RCD snubber, this paper proposes flyback type snubber comprising two coils wound on a magnetic core. The flyback snubber not only meets all of the IGCTs characteristics during on and off-state but also significantly saves the power loss. Modern magnetic model using permeance-capacitance analogy leads to more accurate loss analysis of flyback type di/dt snubber circuit in 3-level NPC type back-to-back VSC. In turns, the comparison between conventional and flyback type snubber yield the effectiveness of proposed snubber in wind turbine systems.

  • 본 논문은 Full-bridge converter 2차측 다이오드의 Ringing 전압을 제거하는 방법으로 Active Snubber를 제안한다. 기존 RCD Snubber는 다이오드의 Ringing 에너지를 저항으로 소모하는 방식으로 전압 서지를 줄이는데 한계가 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 Active Snubber가 제안 되었으며, Active Snubber는 다이오드의 Ringing 전압을 회생시킴으로써, 전압스트레스를 줄이고 효율을 개선하는 이점을 보여준다. 본 논문에서는 7KW Full-bridge converter에 제안하는 Active Snubber를 적용하여 그 유도성을 입증하였다.

  • Nowadays, more than ever before, many researchers take much interest in raising the efficiency of a power converter. In Flyback converter, the resistor of RCD snubber consumes the stored energy in leakage inductor. It plays a role in degrading the overall system efficiency. Thus, in this paper, a novel energy recovery circuit of Flyback converter is proposed to improve the efficiency. The operational principle of the proposed circuit is explained in detail. And, it is vilified through the simulation and experimental results.

  • This paper proposed a snubber circuit for flying capacitor multilevel inverter and converter. The proposed snubber circuit makes use of Undeland snubber as basic snubber as basic snubber unit and has such an advantage of Undeland snubber used in the two-level inverter. Comparing conventional RCD/RLD snubber for multilevel in verter and converter the proposed snubber keeps such a good features as fewer number of components improved efficiency of system due to low loss snubber and reduction of voltage stress of main switching devices due to low overvoltage. Furthermore the proposed concept of constructing a snubber circuit for flying capacitor 3-level inverter and converter can apply to any level of them. In this paper the proposed snubber applies to three-level flying capacitor inverter and demonstrates its feature by computer simulation and experimental result.
