  • It is generally known that particle filters can produce consistent target tracking performance in comparison to the Kalman filter for non-linear and non-Gaussian systems. In this paper, I propose a Rao-Blackwellized multiple model particle filter(RBMMPF) to enhance computational efficiency of the particle filters as well as to reduce sensitivity of modeling. Despite that the Rao-Blackwellized particle filter needs less particles than general particle filter, it has a similar tracking performance with a less computational load. Comparison results for performance is listed for the using single sensor information RBMMPF and using multisensor data fusion RBMMPF.

On the Cramer-Rao Bound for Estimating Parameters of Exponentially Decaying Function under Poisson Noise (Poisson 잡음 하에서의 지수 감소 함수 인자 추정시의 Cramer-Rao bound)

  • We computed Cramer-Rao bound for estimating amplitude and decay parameters of exponentially decaying function under Poisson noise. Since Cramer-Rao bound is the lowest variance bound for any unbiased estimator, the computed Cramer-Rao bound can be used for evaluating the performance of estimators under Poisson noise. In addition, we show that the performance of maximum-likelihood estimator is close to the Cramer-Rao bound by simulations.

  • In this paper we suggest a new alternative estimator for the characteristics that are pooly correlated with the selection probabilities by applying the Amahia et al.(1989)'s estimator to Rao-Hartley-Cochran sampling scheme and compare it with that of Rao(1966)'s under a super-population model.

Impact of Routine Histopathological Examination of Gall Bladder Specimens on Early Detection of Malignancy - A Study of 4,115 Cholecystectomy Specimens

  • Gall bladder carcinoma is the most common cancer of biliary tree, characterized by rapid progression and a very high mortality rate. Detection at an early stage, however, is indicative of a very good prognosis and prolonged survival. The practice of histopathological examination of gall bladder specimens removed for clinically benign conditions and its usefulness has been a subject of controversy. The present prospective study was carried out over a period of four years in order to find out the incidence of unsuspected gallbladder carcinoma in cholecystectomy specimens received in our histopathology laboratory and to analyze their clinico-pathological features. A total of 4,115 cases were examined. Incidentally detected cases comprised 0.44%, which accounted for 72% of all gall bladder carcinomas detected. The majority were in an early, surgically resectable stage. From the results of this study we recommend that in India and other countries with relatively high incidences of gall bladder carcinoma, all cholecystectomy specimens should be submitted to histopathology laboratory, as this is the only means by which malignancies can be detected at an early, potentially curable stage.

Empirical Analysis on Rao-Scott First Order Adjustment for Two Population Homogeneity test Based on Stratified Three-Stage Cluster Sampling with PPS

  • National-wide and/or large scale sample surveys generally use complex sample design. Traditional Pearson chi-square test is not appropriate for the categorical complex sample data. Rao-Scott suggested an adjustment method for Pearson chi-square test, which uses the average of eigenvalues of design matrix of cell probabilities. This study is to compare the efficiency of Rao-Scott first order adjusted test to Wald test for homogeneity between two populations using 2009 Gyeongnam regional education offices's customer satisfaction survey (2009 GREOCSS) data. The 2009 GREOCSS data were collected based on stratified three-stage cluster sampling with probability proportional to size. The empirical results show that the Rao-Scott adjusted test statistic using only the variances of cell probabilities is very close to the Wald test statistic, which uses the covariance matrix of cell probabilities, under the 2009 GREOCSS data based. However it is necessary to be cautious to use the Rao-Scott first order adjusted test statistic in the place of Wald test because its efficiency is decreasing as the relative variance of eigenvalues of the design matrix of cell probabilities is increasing, specially more when the number of degrees of freedom is small.

Prediction of Barge Ship Roll Response Amplitude Operator Using Machine Learning Techniques

  • Recently, the increasing importance of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has led to its increased use in various fields in the shipbuilding and marine industries. For example, typical scenarios for AI include production management, analyses of ships on a voyage, and motion prediction. Therefore, this study was conducted to predict a response amplitude operator (RAO) through AI technology. It used a neural network based on one of the types of AI methods. The data used in the neural network consisted of the properties of the vessel and RAO values, based on simulating the in-house code. The learning model consisted of an input layer, hidden layer, and output layer. The input layer comprised eight neurons, the hidden layer comprised the variables, and the output layer comprised 20 neurons. The RAO predicted with the neural network and an RAO created with the in-house code were compared. The accuracy was assessed and reviewed based on the root mean square error (RMSE), standard deviation (SD), random number change, correlation coefficient, and scatter plot. Finally, the optimal model was selected, and the conclusion was drawn. The ultimate goals of this study were to reduce the difficulty in the modeling work required to obtain the RAO, to reduce the difficulty in using commercial tools, and to enable an assessment of the stability of medium/small vessels in waves.

A Numerical Study on the Appendage Shape for a Heave Motion Reduction of Floating Cylindrical Structure (원통형 부유체의 heave운동 저감을 위한 부가물 형상에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • In this paper, attaching various damping plates to the cylindrical structure and performing numerical simulations try to study heave RAO and natural period for cylinder. Most of all, we identified heave RAO of the cylinder by simulations of the motion and the wave. And then, we performed numerical simulations by changing the size and shape of heave damping plate attached to the cylinder and reviewed the heave RAO and natural period for each case. The conclusions of this research are as follows. Firstly, the natural period of cylindrical structure is increased by attached to the cylinder with heave damping plate and the heave RAO of cylindrical structure is reduced in the peak period for incident wave by attached to the cylinder with from the size of 1.30D for heave damping plate. Secondly, circular plate has long natural period than Y-type plate in all of these sections. Finally, the motion response spectrum considering the marine environment of Piranema field was identified as the heave motion of cylindrical structure is remarkably reduced with both circular plate and Y-type plate in the peak period for incident wave.

  • In this paper amplitude and phase distortion of the received signal through a fading channel results in a severe performance degradation of the communication system, Therefore we consider the variance of the maximum a posteriori phase estimate of sinusoidal signal by the Cramer-Rao bound in wireless fading channel. To find the Cramer-Rao lower bound for the variance of the phase, We use the derived probability density function(pdf) of the phase in Nakagami fading channel. We analyze the error performance of modulation signals using order statistics on generalized combining reception and find adequate diversity branch number.
