  • This paper focuses on reliability prediction of long-term creep strength for Modified 9Cr-1Mo steel (Gr. 91) which is considered as one of the structural materials of next generation reactor systems. A "Z-parameter" method was introduced to describe the magnitude of standard deviation of creep rupture data to the master curve which can be plotted by log stress vs. The larson-Miller parameter (LMP). Statistical analysis showed that the scattering of the Z-parameter for the Gr. 91 steel well followed normal distribution. Using this normal distribution of the Z-parameter, the various reliability curves for creep strength design, such as stress-time temperature parameter reliability curves (${\sigma}$-TTP-R curves), stress-rupture time-reliability curves (${\sigma}-t_{r}-R$ curves), and allowable stress-temperature- reliability curves ([${\sigma}$]-T-R curves) were reasonably drawn, and their results are discussed.

  • This paper presents a method to quantify R-ratio effect on J-integral under large-amplitude cyclic loading condition. Generally, monotonic tearing resistance curves are used to assess stability of cracked nuclear piping under seismic loading. However, it is well known that fracture toughness decrease at cyclic loading condition, according to R-ratio. For this reason, it is important to quantify the J-R curves under cyclic loading condition. To quantify the R-ratio effect, correction method which was proposed by Tranchand is considered. This method considers crack opening area in order to calculate modified J-integral. This method leads to an increase of fracture toughness. At R=-0.5 case, this method is good agreement with monotonic J-R curves. However, results show that this method has a limit to apply a large R-ratio case.

  • We present an algorithm for computing the Hausdorff distance between two parametric curves in $\mathbb{R}^n$, or more generally between two sets of parametric curves in $\mathbb{R}^n$. During repeated subdivision of the parameter space, we prune subintervals that cannot contain an optimal point. Typically, our algorithm costs O(logM) operations, compared with O(M) operations for a direct, brute-force method, to achieve an accuracy of $O(M^{-1})$.

  • The general stereographic projection which maps a point on a sphere with arbitrary radius to a point on a plane stereographically and its inverse projection have the pythagorean-hodograph (PH) preserving property in the sense that they map a PH curve to another PH curve. Upon this fact, for given spatial $C^1$ Hermite data, we construct a spatial PH curve on a sphere that is a $C^1$ Hermite interpolant of the given data as follows: First, we solve $C^1$ Hermite interpolation problem for the stereographically projected planar data of the given data in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with planar PH curves expressed in the complex representation. Second, we construct spherical PH curves which are interpolants for the given data in $\mathbb{R}^3$ using the inverse general stereographic projection.

  • The goal of this paper is to generalize the concept of Bezier curves and surfaces defined on the vector space $R_n$ to Lie groups, which is a new generation method of curves (called Bezier curves) on Lie groups. The defined Bezier curves and surfaces are alsways smooth because of the properties of Lie groups. We apply this method to smooth motion interpolation or smooth trajectory generation for moving rigid body in space.

  • For a reduced, irreducible and nondegenerate curve C ⊂ ℙr of degree d, it was shown that the arithmetic genus g of C has an upper bound π0(d, r) by G. Castelnuovo. And he also classified the curves that attain the extremal value. These curves are arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay and contained in a surface of minimal degree. In this paper, we investigate the arithmetic genus of curves lie on a surface of minimal degree - the Veronese surface, smooth rational normal surface scrolls and singular rational normal surface scrolls. We also provide a construction of curves on singular rational normal surface scroll S(0, 2) ⊂ ℙ3 which attain the maximal arithmetic genus.

  • Let $C{\subset}{\mathbb{P}}^r$ be a nondegenerate projective curve of degree d > r + 1 and of maximal regularity. Such curves are always contained in the threefold scroll S(0, 0, r - 2). Also some of such curves are even contained in a rational normal surface scroll. In this paper we study the minimal free resolution of the homogeneous coordinate ring of C in the case where $d{\leq}2r-2$ and C is contained in a rational normal surface scroll. Our main result provides all the graded Betti numbers of C explicitly.

  • We offer a refinement of the classical Clifford inequality about special linear series on smooth irreducible complex curves. Namely, we prove about curves of genus g and odd gonality at least 5 that for any linear series $g^r_d$ with $d{\leq}g+1$, the inequality $3r{\leq}d$ holds, except in a few sporadic cases. Further, we show that the dimension of the set of curves in the moduli space for which there exists a linear series $g^r_d$ with d<3r for $d{\leq}g+l,\;0{\leq}l{\leq}\frac{g}{2}-3$, is bounded by $2g-1+\frac{1}{3}(g+2l+1)$.

  • Following the method described in ASTM E1737, J resistance curves are measured for Cr-Mo steel SA387, and Cr steel A240 which are used as piping materials in nuclear industry. Crack driving force diagrams are generated in order to find out instability points in crack growth. The $J_{appl}$ curves, which are used in the crack driving force diagram, are obtained from EPRI J estimation method and the finite element analysis. Crack growth instability points are plotted in load-crack length plane and the results are discussed.

  • Objective: To establish diagnostic criteria for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in children by using parameters obtained through noninvasive cardiac computed tomography (CCT). Materials and Methods: We retrospectively measured parameters from CCT images of children from a single institution in a multiple stepwise process. A total of 208 children with mean age of 10.5 years (range: 4 days-18.9 years) were assessed. The variables were classified into three groups: the great arteries; the ventricular walls; and the bilateral ventricular cavities. The relationship between the parameters obtained from the CCT images and mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP) was tested and adjusted by the children's body size. Reference curves for the pulmonary trunk diameter (PTD) and ratio of diameter of pulmonary trunk to ascending aorta (rPTAo) of children with CCT images of normal hearts, adjusted for height, were plotted. Threshold lines were established on the reference curves. Results: PTD and rPTAo on the CCT images were significantly positively correlated with mPAP (r > 0.85, p < 0.01). Height was the body size parameter most correlated with PTD (r = 0.91, p < 0.01) and rPTAo (r = -0.69, p < 0.01). On the basis of the threshold lines on the reference curves, PTD and rPTAo both showed 88.9% sensitivity for PAH diagnosis, with negative predictive values of 93.3% and 92.9%, respectively. Conclusion: PTD and rPTAo measured from CCT images were significantly correlated with mPAP in children. Reference curves and the formula of PTD and rPTAo adjusted for height could be practical for diagnosing PAH in children.
