  • This study investigates the relationships among SMEs' innovation capacity, standardization education activities, and performances. Employing about 900 SMEs in the ICT and electronics electricity industries, this study used regression analysis and examined the effects of standardization education activities on performance and the moderating effect of innovation capacity. The results indicate that standardization education activities positively affect SMEs' production and quality improvement and R&D activity improvement. The results also show that R&D investment ratio moderates the relationship between standardization education and production and quality improvement. This study provides practical insight into why firm managers should pay attention to standardization education and innvation capacity to improve firm performance.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation of various Lactobacilli strains on growth performance, intestinal microflora, ileal villi development and ileal mucosal surface of broiler chickens. Six hundred 1-d-old male chicks(Avian) were randomly divided into five groups of four replicates, each replicates containing 30 birds and fed corn-soybean meal diets containing Latobaillus were isolated from cecum of chichens at 107cfu/g diet for five weeks. The treatments were control(antibiotics-free diet), Lactobacillus crispatus avibro1(LCB), Lactobacillus reuteri avibro2(LRB), Lactobacillus crispatus avihen1(LCH) or Lactobacillus vaginalis avihen2(LVH). The body weight gain in groups fed Lactobacillus significantly improved as compared to those of control(P<0.05). Feed intake was not statistically different among the groups. The number of Lactobacillus in ileum and cecum of chicks fed various Lactobacillus tended to be increased or significantly increased as compared to those of the control(P<0.05), but there was difference by age of chicks and species of Lactobacillus. The number of yeast was significantly increased in cecum and ileum at three weeks old chicks fed Lactobacilli compared with the control(P<0.05). The anaerobes’ number of ileum and cecum tended to increase or significantly increased in Lactobacillus treatments compared with the control(P<0.05). The ileal villi length extended greatly at three weeks of age in groups fed Lactobacillus compared with the control(P<0.05). The length of ileal villi in chicks fed Lactobacillus was continuously increased up to five weeks of age, but did not increased in the control(P<0.05). Lactobacillus was found on ileal mucosal surface. And ileal mucosal surface was maintained better with Latobacillus feeding. These results suggest the possibility that cecal Lactobacillus of chickens could be used as probiotics by improving the growth performance and promoting development of ileal villi in broiler chicks.

  • Construction Research and Development (R & D) projects have been begun with the investment of 1.2 billions in 1994 and have been reached to 30 billions in 2004. During this ten-year period, a total of investment for construction R&D amounts to 125.7 billions (Total 418 construction R&D projects). However, the results of each R&D project could not apply to real construction site because each project has been performed by a small size (0.5 billions). In addition to those, the social interest on the construction R&D projects has not been received and those importance has not been recognized. Especially, there aren't still standardized methodologies or weighted measurement data for evaluating research performance of the construction R&D projects up to now. The construction R&D projects has been Invested on the basis of an annual technology demand survey rather than the research performance outcome. Therefore, it is important to establish a qualitative performance measurement model for evaluating construction R&D projects. This paper proposes a new research methodology for analyzing the performance measurement of the construction R&D projects. First of all, the Balanced Score Card (BSC) is used to evaluate the construction STAR technologies selected in this research. The performance items of BSC has been modified as four criteria such as "productivity, "knowledge accumulation," "training of students," and "welfare." The new research methodology developed in this paper is expected to use in establishing resonable construction R&D budget in the future.

  • In the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, global powers are enhancing R&D support to leverage innovations like AI, IoT, and big data for productivity gains and structural economic and social reforms. Yet, the declining R&D budget growth rate and the forecasted sharp cut in South Korea's R&D budget in 2024 highlight the critical need for national R&D performance management system discussions. Diverging from previous studies focused on quantitative analysis of performance determinants, this research utilizes fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis(fsQCA) to explore the interplay of factors affecting research institutions' outcomes comprehensively. Analyzing data from 2018 to 2022, it examines three outcome types of research institutions, identifying factor combinations crucial for success. By pinpointing these factors' configurations, the study offers institution-specific performance enhancement guidelines and insights for national R&D policy management and performance evaluation efficiency.

  • Adeno-associated virus (AAV) has been considered to be a very safe and efficient gene delivery system. However, the major obstacles to therapeutic usage of AAV have been to achieve highly efficient and reproducible production processes, and also to develop a reliable quantifying method of various serotypes with a simple protocol. We compared the efficiency of the conventional production protocol of AAV2 and adenovirus (Ad) co-infection to that of a new method containing AAV2 infection followed by pHelper transfection. We tested HEK293 and 293T, and further examined the time-dependent changes of AAV2 production. The new method of AAV2 and pHelper DNA gave about ten times higher production efficiency than that of the conventional protocol. The highest production efficiency in 293T was achieved as $1.61{\times}10^5$ virus genomes (v.g.)/cell by the new method of 10 MOI of AAV2 infection and 5 days post-infection. This protocol of the highest efficiency was then applied to produce various AAV serotypes and showed the efficiencies higher than $10^5$ v.g./cell. Next, we designed the universal PCR primers of highly conserved regions for various AAV serotypes to develop a simple and reliable titration method. The universal primers could amplify all the tested AAV serotypes with similar sensitivities by ten molecular copies. Therefore, this pair of universal primers can be further utilized to detect AAV contaminants in therapeutic adenoviral vectors.

  • National R&D programs are managed and operated by institutes under different ministries. The R&D information created through these programs are designed and constructed heterogeneously both semantically and structurally. Therefore, integrated collection, analysis and application of the information through the interoperability of information at the national level becomes nearly impossible, and redundant production and operation of R&D information becomes a general problem. The Office of Science and Technology Innovation has started the construction of the National Science and Technology Information System(NTIS), which is based on the interoperability and sharing of R&D information, to resolve these issues. In this paper, we propose a method to construct a system for sharing national R&D information held by different ministries while minimizing the effect on the autonomy of the institutes involved.

  • Thirty Streptomyces sp. and 200 Bacillus sp. isolated from Korean soils and traditional foods were screened for their abilities to inhibit ${\alpha}$-glucosidase and produce 1-deoxynojirimycin (DNJ). This screening identified a Bacillus sp. bacterium that strongly inhibited ${\alpha}$-glucosidase and produced high levels of DNJ from Chungkookjang, a Korean traditional food. The bacterium was characterized in terms of its biochemical and molecular biological properties such as sugar utilization, cellular quinone composition, cell wall fatty acid composition, and 16S rDNA sequence. In addition, scanning electron microscopy was used to visualize the morphology of the bacterium. These analyses identified the bacterium as B. subtilis, a bacterium with Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status. The selected strain was named B. subtilis MORI.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of enterprise R&D investment on inter-industry technology spillover in Korea under the new Normal Era. In order to do this, we tested the effect of production inducement, backward and forward linkage effects, and the effect of technology spillover such as technology intensity effects and technology diffusion effects based on an input-output framework. The results show that the high index industries of the production inducement effect were professional, scientific and technical activities, manufacture of metal products, and general machinery. Some manufacturers of other non-metallic mineral products and transport equipment sectors appeared to have the strong effect of forward and backward linkages that were almost equivalent to high-tech manufacturing industries. In particular, the industries of professional, scientific and technical activities appeared to have the strong effect of both forward and backward linkages. Therefore, we need to drive a strong policy support to higher enterprise R&D investment in the those particular industries not only to increase global competitiveness, but also to widen up the technology spillover effect on other industries.
