  • Student questioning is included in the priority of science literacy, to enable students to solve problems by exploring questions, communicating and constructing knowledge(AAAS, 1989). Also, the essence of student questioning in science lies in its function as a link between thinking and learning. But educators did not pay much attention to students' questioning in Korea. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of science question enhancement instruction on students' science questioning level and achievement. Also, this study showed the effects of other variables(logical thinking, science achievement, interest, and gender) on students' science questioning level. The pretest-posttest control group design group design was used. The sample was consisted of 80 second grade middle school students in experimental group(Science question enhancement instruction) and 74 students in control group(Traditional learning). Students in both groups were received identical content instruction on the unit 'Structures and functions of plant'. These groups were treated for 15 hours during 6 weeks. Students' questions were rated using the four levels described by the Middle School Students' Science Question Rating Scale(r= .96,)(Cuccio-Schirripa & Steinner, 2000). Science achievement data were collected using a 17 item multiple choice test(Cronbach ${\alpha}$= .84). To investigate students' logical thinking ability, a abridged GALT(Cronbach ${\alpha}$= .69) was used. Five-way ANOVA, ANCOVA, and multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the results. The results indicated that students who received instruction on researchable questioning outperformed those students who were not instructed on high-order questioning(p< .01). Results of correlations indicated that instruction(r= .640), science achievement(r= .311) and logical thinking ability(r= .212) was significantly and positively related with students' questioning level. But, interest and gender did not show any significant correlation with students' questioning level. Science question enhancement instruction was more effective on science achievement than the traditional instruction(p< .01).

  • According to instruction of standard-based assessment system, teachers with higher level of competence in student assessment are required. The purpose of this study is to offer the basic data to enhance pre-service physics teachers' competency in student assessment. 17 pre-service physics teachers, who are sophomore in department of physics education, participated in the study for a whole semester. To do this, we gave the assignment of multiple choice question construction in physics conceptest for formative assessment to pre-service teachers and observed review questions constructed by them. We also analyzed multiple choice questions of 17 pre-service teachers. They had 5 classes for the review process of the question and improved their questions through it. 16 of 17 pre-service teachers completed test design. Our results show that pre-service teachers had a little low competence in test design for classroom assessment. In addition to, constructing and revising questions, almost of them didn't have various perspectives and didn't consider to get information about the pre-conceptions of students. These findings indicate that they have difficulties with constructing multiple choice question and more specific plan needs to enhance the overall student-assessment competency levels of pre-service teachers for successful settlement of the standard-based assessment system.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze pre-service teachers' perceptions and change on the images about young children. The subjects of this study were 31 students in the early childhood department at a university. It was a longitudinal study conducted for four years. The data regarding the images that students had about young children were collected by having them answer a question. The question was "Young children are... Because of..." Subjects were asked to answer that question when they were freshmen and then, to answer the same question when they were seniors in order to see the change. A content analysis and frequency were conducted. The study of the results could be summarized as follows. Firstly, from their first year to senior year, the images that pre-service teachers perceived such as, vibrant active beings and beings with various characteristics" did not change. However, the images such as "being who was capable of interacting with environments" had changed. And the new image which viewed a child as a being who should be respected emerged. Secondly, the factors that influenced the image changes were based on the experience of working as assistant teachers at an early childhood setting, and practicum. Therefore, a systematic work on assistant teachers should be done and a concept about child-center education should be built.

  • It is very vital for the presidential preference not only to be a political achievement of the president himself, but also to be an influential base of people-related policy and its implementation. The purpose of this study is to provide the newly developing ideas to compose an appropriate question and to point out the present problems in the utilization of survey results. At first, it turned out to be inappropriate to make a question for evaluation of presidential job approval in the perspective of questionnaire planning. As the respondents were not informed of what the president did, so they were more likely not to know whether the president did well or not. Secondly, the correlation analysis has been made between the evaluation question of the presidential job approval and policy-related questions including the direct one for the presidential preference in the aspect of statistical analysis. Through this process, evaluation of the presidential job approval is not accountable and the direct question for the presidential preference is at best explainable. In conclusion, it seems more persuasive to compare the statistical outcome of the presidential preference which has been derived of to the high rating what the respondents think comprehensively not depending on a subjective decision by mass media.

  • The student's pre-questions (pre-class questions related to the learning contents) not only provide the teacher a gauge of the interest and level of the student, but also provide a useful means of providing clues to proceed with the teaching-learning process. The purpose of this study is to develop an analytical framework for effectively analyzing students' pre-questions and to analyze students' pre-questions related to elementary science learning unit of the 2009 revised curriculum by applying this framework. The developed framework is composed of three major categories: knowledge type, extended type, and curious type, each of which is then subdivided into several sub-categories. Using the developed analysis framework, 914 pre-questions from the students presented in the $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ grades of elementary science in the 2009 revised curriculum were analyzed, and the types of questions distributed by grade. The percentage of questions by type was also different. Based on the results of this study, students' needs for learning can be grasped through the pre-questions analysis framework and reflected in the teaching-learning process, and student-centered learning contents and methods could be presented. It is expected to make a meaningful contribution to the analysis framework.
