A Study on Impact of Generator Maintenance Outage Modeling on Long-term Capacity Expansion Planning (발전기 계획예방정비 모델링 방식이 전원계획 수립에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • Long term capacity expansion planning has to be carried out to satisfy pre-defined system reliability criterion. For purpose of assessing system reliability, probabilistic simulation technique has been widely adopted. However, the way how to approximate generator outage, especially maintenance outage, in probabilistic simulation scheme can significantly influence on reliability assessment. Therefore, in this paper, 3 different maintenance approximation methods are applied to investigate the quantitative impact of maintenance approximation method on long term capacity expansion planning.

The Impact of the Hotel Employees' Psychological Safety and Intrinsic Motivation on Creative Process Engagement

  • In this quantitative research, it was enhanced to understand the impact of intrinsic motivation on creative process engagement by examining the significant role of psychological safety on intrinsic motivation. These relationships were examined by targeting the employees working full-time for five star deluxe hotels. Total number of 230 responses had been collected out of 250 cases requested and he number of 213 cases was used for the final analysis. The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling with SPSS 19.0 and AMOS 7 software program. The results suggested that psychological safety is significantly associated with intrinsic motivation. Furthermore, the hotel employees' problem identification, information searching & coding, and idea generation are affected by intrinsic motivation. That is, intrinsic motivation plays a significant role for each sub-factors of creative process engagement in the hotel industry. The theoretical and practical implications of these findings are established and related suggestion for formulating marketing strategy is well discussed.

A study on the evaluation method for slag detachability (SLAG 박리성 평가 방법에 대한 고찰)

  • A method which can be used for evaluating slag detachability is proposed in this study. The proposed method was intended to get an absolute value for slag detachability, to give consistent value for a given welded joint, and finally to be simple to test. With a test fig made in this study, an impact by dropping a steel ball (13Kg in weight) is applied on the back side of an as-welded plate having a slag layer on the weld bead. Such impact applied forces the slag to drop off from the bead surface. In order to make a quantitative evaluation the amount of slag removed was measured with increasing the number of drops. Using this method six kinds of fluxes were evaluated in terms of the effects of flux type, basicity and weding variables on the slag detachability. As an initial result of this test, it was found that welding heat input affects the detachability significantly. Most importantly the evaluation made using the presently proposed method gives the same order of ranking as that of the actual practice done by a welder.

A Study on the Technological Competitiveness of Aircraft Infra Industries by using Patents (특허분석을 통한 항공기반산업의 기술경쟁력에 관한 연구)

  • This paper considers the technological competitiveness of aircraft infra industries that are bases of the aircraft industry development in Korea. We performed focus group interviews to aircraft industry specialists and classified the aircraft infra industries by eight fields: metallurgical assembly, general machinery, precision instruments, materials & parts, communication appliances, computer, semi-conductor/ electronic component, electronics. Through the United States patents analysis for the G7 countries and Korea during 1995-2006, we identified the technological specificities and competences of each country. RTA(Revealed Technology Advantage) index and CII(Current Impact Index) are used to examine the technological specificity and technological competence respectively. Finally, we introduced TCI(Technological Competitiveness Index) which could reflect quantitative level as well as qualitative level of patents for each aircraft infra industry. The results show that Korea has occupied the technological competitiveness in the semi-conductor and electronic component industry out of eight aircraft infra industries, and achieved a competitive edge in communication appliance industry in the mid 2000s.

A Study on the Characteristics of Vibration Damping of a Beam with Inserted Viscoelastic Layer (점탄성층을 삽입한 3층 적층보의 진동감쇠특성에 관한 연구)

  • For a number of years it has been known that flexural vibration in a beam and plate can be damped by the application of layer of damping (viscoelastic) material that is in turn constrained by a backing layer or foil. In this study, a quantitative analysis of damping of the sandwich beam has been performed by using impact test. The damping is characterized by the loss factor .etha. in which the damping is normalized by imaginary part of the complex bending stiffiness of the beam. Results show that the relative thickness of the sandwich beam gives more effect on the riatural-frequencies and loss factor than the variation of width does. It is also shown that the Ross-Kerwin-Ungar equation and impact test can be effectively used to identify the damping characteristic of the sandwich beam and viscoelastic material.

The Technological Competitiveness Analysis of Aircraft-based Industries using Patent Information (특허정보를 활용한 항공기반산업의 기술경쟁력 분석)

  • This paper analyzes the technological competitiveness of aircraft-based industries that are the basis for the development of aircraft industry in Korea. By performing expert interviews with industry specialists in the field of aircraft technology, the paper categorizes eight fields that are fundamental to the development of the aircraft industry. By analyzing patents of G7 countries and Korea made in the US from 1995 to 2006 we were able to identify the technological specificities and competencies of each country. RTA (Revealed Technology Advantage) index and CII (Current Impact Index) are used to examine the technological specificity and technological competence respectively. Finally, by introducing the TCI (Technological Competitiveness Index) the paper is able to consider both the quantitative level and the qualitative level of patents for each field in the aircraft industry. By analyzing the TCI, the paper concludes that Korea has high technological prowess centered around IT industries such as semi-conductors/ electronics component, communication appliances and consumer electronics. Also Korea is relatively competitive in the precision instruments industry.

  • This study deals with bottom debris and benthos which have obtained by using a beam trawler in Chinhae bay, Korea. The temperature and salinity didn't impact on the fish species and weights in the bay. But bottom debris is dominated on the precipitation into the bay. And it also was nearly very soiled owing to geographical condition of semi-enclosed bay. Moreover, all debris was not related on the quantitative variability of benthos. On the other hand, it was revealed to be reverse-correlative with fish species and positive-correlative with fish weights.

  • As the hydrogen industry grows, expansion of infrastructure for hydrogen supply is required, but the safety of hydrogen facilities is concerned due to the recent accidents at the Gangneung hydrogen tank and the Norwegian hydrogen fueling station. In this study, the damage range and impact analysis on the on-site hydrogen fueling station was conducted using Hy-KoRAM. This is a domestically developed program that adds functions based on HyRAM. Through this risk assessment, it was evaluated whether the on-site hydrogen fueling station meets international standards and suggested ways to improve safety.

A Technique to Quantify the Extent of Postmortem Degradation of Meat Ultrastructure

  • This study investigated quantitative changes in the spaces between and within myofibrils and the impact of high and low voltage electrical stimulation on muscle ultrastructure as seen in electron micrographs. In addition, the relationships of these spaces and the impact to meat tenderness were investigated. The degradation of myofibrils during aging appeared to be localized across the muscle fibre. Structural deterioration of muscle fibres was evident 1 day post-mortem, involving the weakening in the lateral integrity of the myofibrils and Z-disc regions. Meat tenderisation, as shown by objective measurements, coincided with these increases in degradation, as assessed by the sum of the gaps between and within myofibrils. The results showed that the total size of gaps between and within myofibrils can be used as an indicator of meat tenderization during aging, but that ultrastructural alteration in electrically stimulated muscle had little relationship with meat tenderness.

Economic Analysis for Standardization R&D of Urban Rail System (도시철도 표준화 연구개발사업의 경제성 분석)

  • This study is to estimate economic benefits of Standardization R&D of Urban Rail System. Benefit was to be realized through standardization of main areas such as train vehicle, railway, power system, and signal system. To derive and calculate the quantitative benefit, the sources of economic impact was divided into three dimensions -operational cost savings, import substitution, and safety effects. Economic effect of the standardization was categorized based on a modified BSC model. Economic benefits from time and labor savings are converted into cost savings. Import substitution and investment multiplier effect have a positive impact in addition to cost savings. The estimation of the standardization R&D of Urban Rail System was conservatively estimated 370 billion Won. Cost effectiveness of standardized safety system was conservatively translated into economic benefit in this analysis. This study provides a practical guide to economic evaluation of the various railway R&D projects.
