On the basis of Sternberg's the theory of mental self-government, this study investigated the differences in students' thinking styles between gifted and average students and the differences in teachers' thinking styles by school quality (gifted school/ average school), sex, professional teaching experience (as measured by duration), and subject of teaching. The subjects were consisted of 191 gifted high school freshmen, 245 average high school freshmen, and 73 teachers. The results of this study were as follows: First, there were statistical differences in many of thinking styles between gifted and average student school. Gifted students scored higher on the legislative, executive, judicial, global, and hierarchic, internal thinking styles. Second, there were no differences in teachers' thinking styles by school quality (gifted school/ average school). Third, teachers with more professional teaching experience (as measured by duration) tended to score higher on the executive, local, and conservative thinking styles. Fourth, there were no differences in teachers' thinking styles by sex and by subject of teaching. To conclude, the thinking styles of students and teachers can play an important role in teaching and learning in schools. Therefore, we need the cognition of thinking styles of students and teachers for the ideal gifted identification and instructional procedures.
The purpose of this study was to synthesize intervention studies, which utilized single case experimental design, on teaching mathematical word problems for elementary school students with disabilities and evaluate each of their methodological rigor. The researchers reviewed all studies from 2000 to 2022 that involved teaching mathematical word problems to individuals with disabilities. A total of 12 studies was included for a final analysis. Most of the interventions were delivered by researchers for about 30-40 minutes per session to elementary school students with disabilities. Schema-based instruction, cognitive-metacognitive strategy, and technology-based instruction were used as intervention methods, and explicit instruction was mostly used in conjunction with them. On the other hand, the researchers found that none of research articles met quality indicators for single case experimental design according to Cook et al. (2015). Limitation and directions for future research were also discussed.
Higher education is under unprecedented pressure for quality improvement and cost containment/reduction due to global competition and ever-increasing tuition costs. These twin challenges require an unconventional approach, and massive open online courses (MOOCs) and flipped learning have recently emerged as two promising educational alternatives not only to address the current problems but also to direct the future of education. This paper discusses the rapidly changing environment for education, MOOCs, and flipped learning as learning alternatives, the relationship between MOOCs and flipped learning, and course redesign for the implementation of flipped learning. The case of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) is also discussed for benchmarking purposes since it has been pioneering an innovative educational methodology for teaching and learning IT-enabled active learning methods from its inception in 2009. It has redesigned almost 70 courses (20% of all the courses to offer) for flipped learning. The objectives of UNIST's educational experiment are three-fold: improving the quality of education for students, improving teaching productivity for the faculty, and containing/reducing education costs for the university.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics influencing consultation and waiting time in ambulatory patients. Methods : This study was conducted in a tertiary teaching hospital. Subjects were a total of 10,383 ambulatory patients. Consultation time was measured by time spent for meeting with his/her physician per patient. Waiting time was defined as the time difference between each patient's reserved time and time to meet with his/her physician for ambulatory care. Multiple regression analyses were performed to determine the factors influencing consultation and waiting time. Results : Consultation time was different according to patient' age, previous experience of clinic visit, recent admission history, medical department, specialist care, type of reservation, and day of the week. Significant factors influencing waiting time were patient' age, residential area, previous experience of clinic visit, recent admission history, medical department, specialist care, time spent after ambulatory care begins, and day of the week. Conclusions : The medical department was the strongest factor affecting both consultation time and waiting time. The ambulatory reservation management systems should take into account patient characteristics as well as care-related features.

Purpose: This study was done to explore recognition of accreditation for nursing education, job satisfaction and intention to change teaching area for faculty in Fundamentals of Nursing. Methods: Participants were 104 faculty members teaching Fundamentals of Nursing. Each participant responded to a questionnaire. Data were collected from June 25 to October 25, 2016, and analyzed using SPSS 23.0 for descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The participants' recognition of accreditation in nursing education was $3.45{\pm}0.81$ out of 5 and in the sub-items, the score for quality improvement in professors in Fundamentals of Nursing was lowest at $3.21{\pm}1.03$. Job satisfaction was $3.30{\pm}5.30$, and intention to change teaching area was $2.62{\pm}1.00$. Attributes related to practice appear to be major reasons why participants intended to change their teaching area and scores for intention to change teaching area were medium or higher. Conclusion: Results indicate that it is necessary to develop strategies to improve job satisfaction and reduce intention to change teaching area for faculty with less experience in Fundamentals of Nursing education. Development of strategies, management and support are needed to improve young professors' job satisfaction and reduce intention to change teaching area.

The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing learning satisfaction of nursing students in online non-face-to-face classes during COVID-19 pandemic. 138 undergraduate nursing students were recruited from C nursing colleges of C city in Gyungnam. Data was collected using a self-reported online-questionnaire from 5 January to 18 January, 2022. Collected data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 27.0 program using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. Factor influencing learning satisfaction among undergraduate nursing students on online non-face-to-face classes during COVID-19 pandemic were teaching presence(presence of teacher)(𝛽=.43, p<.001), instructional quality(content qualities)(𝛽=.41, p<.001), Satisfaction of nursing major(satisfaction)(𝛽=.13, p<.001). instructional quality(interface)(𝛽=.12, p=.036), which explained about 85.3% of total variance(F=192.78, p<.001). Therefore, in order to improve class satisfaction in online non-face-to-face classes, it is necessary to operate classes that prioritize the presence of teacher so that learners can recognize and trust the presence of teacher by passionately professional performing. And, among instructional quality, we should be strengthen the usefulness of learning materials, content factors related to tests and assignments, and strive to improve satisfaction of nursing major. In addition, it is necessary to prepare and operate classes that fully consider the interface factors related to the manual composition and system convenience for online classes among the quality factors of classes.
In Intensive Care Units (ICUs), where severely ill patients are treated, importance of reducing Hospital Acquired Infection (HAI) cannot be overstated. One of the simplest and most effective actions against HAI is proper hand hygiene (HH) behavior of Health Care Workers (HCWs). However, compliance varies across different cultures and different job types of HCWs (physicians, residents and nurses). This study aims to understand determinants of HH behavior by HCWs' job types in Korea. Qualitative analysis was performed based on Reasoned Action Approach style interviews with staff physicians, residents and nurses across 7 teaching hospitals. We found that all HCWs strongly believe HH is important in reducing HAI. There were, however, job type-specific HH behavior modifying factors; staff physicians stated feeling pressure to be HH behavior role model. Residents identified Quality Improvement team that measured compliance as a facilitator; a notable barrier for residents was senior physicians not washing their hands, because they were afraid of appearing impudent to their seniors. Nurses designated their chief nurse as a key referent. All participants mentioned heavy workload and lack of access to alcohol-based sanitizer as situational barriers, and sore and dry hand as deterrents to HH compliance.
This study examined the interactive effects of physical environment of childcare centers and teachers' creative teaching approaches on the level of young children's creativity. To do so, the study conducted an assessment called TCAM(Thinking Creativity in Action and Movement) that was developed by Torrance to 182 young children. Also, it utilized questionnaires to ask 28 teachers concerning physical environment of childcare centers and their creative teaching approaches level. The findings of this study were: First, the gender of young children didn't affect the level of young children's creativity but the age of young children positively affected the level of their imagination that is the subordinate area of creativity. Second, the high level of physical environment of childcare centers positively affected the level of young children's creativity. Third, teachers' actively creative teaching approaches positively affected the level of young children's creativity. Forth, both physical environment of childcare centers and teachers' creative teaching approaches interactively and positively influenced the level of young children's creativity. Fifth, both physical environment of childcare centers and teachers' creative teaching approaches positively affected the level of young children's creativity. The result of this study implies that the level of young children's creativity increases when childcare centers demonstrate high quality of physical environment and teachers deliver creative teaching approaches actively.
This study investigated the effects of utilizing 3D printed teaching aids on academic achievement and learning motivation in a non-face-to-face learning environment during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study was divided into an experimental and a comparison group that applied traditional lecture-based teaching and self-directed learning using 3D printed teaching aids and videos. The results of the study showed that the experimental group using 3D printed brain puzzles improved their academic performance compared to the comparison group using traditional lectures. This may be due to the fact that visual and experiential learning helped students to acquire knowledge on their own. The brain puzzles provided an interesting learning experience for the students, and their overall satisfaction with the class was also positive. These results indicate that teaching with teaching aids can increase students' motivation to learn and improve their academic performance. Therefore, the active introduction of 3D printed teaching aids in the non-face-to-face learning environment caused by COVID-19 is expected to improve the quality of education through innovation in learner-centered teaching methods.
In this study, we analyzed professors' performance of teaching in college of science and engineering from the perspective of the CHAT. Two professors volunteered to participate in this study. Their syllabi were collected before the lectures, and their lectures were observed and videotaped. Semi-structured interviews were conducted before and after their lectures. The CHAT components were classified into 'subjects', 'objects', 'rules', 'communities', 'division of labor', and 'tools'. We extracted the content of six CHAT components from the data and constructed the analysis framework based on the extracted contents. The analyses of the results revealed that both professors had difficulties due to the contradictions among the components of subject, object, rules, and community in the activity system. Both professors used various strategies to relieve the contradiction related to students' ability, such as inviting students to participate in their lecture. However the extent of providing opportunities to students to participate was different between two professors. Meanwhile, both professors preferred to continue their own strategies, because they observed positive changes in students' learning. In other words, the success experiences of two professors influenced their performances of teaching. We discussed some suggestions to improve the quality of the lecture in the college of science and engineering.
