This study aimed to discriminate the groups clustered by mobile phone dependency and use type and to explore the quality of parent child-rearing attitudes and peer relationships predicting the types of groups. The subjects were the 688 fourth-grade students participating in the Korea Child Youth Panel Surveys. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, cluster analysis, One-way ANOVA and multinominal logistic regressions. The main results of this study were as follows. Firstly, as the result of cluster analysis inputting the mobile phone dependency and use type, the four clustered groups were produced. Secondly, the quality of parent child-rearing attitudes and peer relationships discriminating the four groups were parents' supervision, over-involvement, love, senses of non-alienation from peers and communicating with them. Therefore, this study suggested the parent education and peer-relationship improving program to form children's good habits of mobile phone use.
This study was to find out the effect of child-parent and child-peer attachment levels on the quality of the child's friendship. Participants were 355 fifth and sixth graders of three elementary schools in Jeolabukdo. The questionnaire used for this study were Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment(IPPA) and Quality of Friendship Scale. The t-test and the regression-analysis were used for this study. According to the result, when the father attachment was higher and safer, the child's friendship was functioning more positively. However, there wasn't any meaningful relationship between the security of mother attachment and the quality of the child's friendship. When peer attachment level was higher and safer, the quality of the child's friendship was significantly higher. On the other hand, there was meaningful relationship between the security of parent attachment and peer attachment. On relationships among parent attachment, peer attachment, and the quality of the child's friendship, effects of secure father attachment and secure peer attachment were functioning meaningfully on the quality of the child's friendship. Secure peer attachment was the most effective factor functioning positively on the quality of the child's friendship among those three factors, child-parent attachment, peer attachment, and the quality of the child's friendship.

This study examined relationships between peer variables and externalizing behavior problems of 290 4th and 5th grade children in elementary school. The children completed the Friendship Quality Scale and the peer nomination questionnaire. Parents and teachers rated behavior problems of children using the Connors' Rating Scale. Results indicated that rejected children had more behavior problems than popular, average, or neglected children. Socio-emotional supports from a close friend and satisfaction with the friend were negatively related to behavior problems. Behavior problems were mainly predicted by low peer acceptance, and behavior problems of rejected children were negatively and strongly related to socio-emotional supports of a close friend. In conclusion, peer rejection was a risk factor and a friend's support was a protective factor for externalizing behavior problems in 4th and 5th graders.
This study examined the links among parents' interaction styles, their children's representational models of parents and peers, and children's peer acceptance and friendship quality. Forty-seven fourth grade children and their parents (47 mothers and 47 fathers) were observed during discussion interaction, and, one year later, 119 children (63 boys, 56 girls), including the original sample, were interviewed to assess representational models and peer competence. Parents' interaction styles predicted children's representations of parents, moderating the effect of each parent's style, children's representations of peers mediated the relations between the representational models of mothers and their peer acceptance.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the family and peer relationships on adolescents' self-esteem. The subject of this study were 563 students of second grade of middle school who reside in Bucheon, Geonggi-Do and 532 self reported questionnaires were used for final analysis. The findings of this study suggested that there was no significant difference between male and female adolescents in self-esteem. Second, adolescents' self-esteem were associated with relationship with parents, parental supervision, interparental conflict, friendship quality and peer victimization. Male adolescents' self-esteem was affected by peer victimization, relationship with parents, friendship quality. Female adolescents' self-esteem was affected by relationship with parents, friendship quality and peer victimization.
Relationships between peer bullying/victimization, friendship, and self- perception were examined in a sample of 279 fourth, fifth, and sixth grade elementary school students. Data on peer bullying/victimization was collected by peer report using Korean Peer Nomination Inventory; children reported for themselves on the Friendship Quality Scale and the Self-Perception Scale. Children who were involved in peer bullying/victimization reported fewer reciprocal friends and friends similar to themselves; they also showed low friendship quality. Peer victimization was predictable from low perception of social acceptance and friendship satisfaction, while intimacy with friends and high confidence on physical ability predicted peer bullying.
This study examined the influences of both peer and parent-child relationships on suicidal ideation in adolescents with a focus on interpersonal relationships in adolescence that can act as risks as well as protective factors for youth suicide. This study analyzed 5,440 middle and high school students drawn from data, the seventh Happy Planet Index of children-adolescent in Korea, and conducted a series of logistic regressions. The results are as follows. First, both direct and indirect involvement in the school violence affects suicidal ideation as a risk factor in peer relationships. However, the quality and quantity of close friends of adolescents do not represent a protective role against suicidal ideation insofar as they are exposed to school violence. Second, adolescents who live apart from one of their parents are vulnerable to suicidal ideation than those who live with two parents. Third, very poor parent-child relationships in adolescence are not necessarily associated with suicidal ideation in adolescents. Fourth, shared time or activities between parents and adolescents in terms of family meal times are more likely to reduce suicidal ideation in adolescents than the emotional characteristics (trustworthiness or a close relationship) of parents and adolescents. The findings provide implications that frequent contact and shared activities in terms of family dining may contribute to the prevention of adolescent suicide.

The current generation of adolescents stands out as the most digitally interconnected in the annals of history, navigating an era characterized by unprecedented levels of technological connectivity. This study explored the impact of smartphone addiction on the quality of peer relationships among adolescents, with a focus on the mediating role of depression. Analyzing data from 2,288 responses of 14-year-old adolescents extracted from the 2022 cross-sectional data of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2018, research questions were tested. The findings showed that smartphone addiction among adolescents exacerbates depression, consequently leading to a deterioration in the quality of peer relationships. The results contribute to expanding scholarly understanding of the intersection between digital technology and the mental and social well-being of adolescents. Furthermore, there is a call to action for parents, teachers, counselors, policy maker, and practitioner in education institutions to establish programs that monitor and intervene in cases of excessive smartphone use among adolescents.

This study aimed to analyze the relative effects of parents' child-rearing attitudes and the quality of peer and teacher relationships on poor adolescents' self-resilience and self-esteem. The subjects were 639 1st grade middle school students from the firstly poor, the secondary poor, and the thirdly poor families who participated in the Korea Child Youth Panel Surveys(KCYPS). The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics and hierarchical regressions. The results of this study were as follows. Firstly, the poor adolescents' self-resilience were influenced by the quality of peer relationships, parents' child-rearing attitudes, and the quality of teacher relationships in order and the specific variables enhancing adolescents' self-resilience were communication between adolescents and peers, trust with peers, parents' love, reasonable explanation, supervision, and teacher-adolescents' friendly relationships. Secondly, the poor adolescents' self-esteem were influenced by parents' child-rearing attitudes, the quality of peer relationships, and the quality of teacher relationships in order and the specific variables enhancing adolescents' self-esteem were parents' love, supervision, inconsistency, senses of non-alienation among peers, communication between adolescents and peers, trust with peers, and teacher-adolescents' friendly relationships. Finally, the future directions of education welfare programs targeting poor adolescents were suggested on the basis of the results.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating effects of a size of the friendship network and quality of friendship on the associations between mutual antipathy and maladjustment. The subjects were 678 fifth- and sixth-grade primary school children who were recruited from a public school in Bucheon City. The Peer Nomination Inventory was used to assess mutual antipathy, peer victimization, social withdrawal, aggression, and the friendship network. The children were given a classroom roster and asked to nominate up to three classmates who fit each description. Additionally, the children reported the quality of their friendships using the Friendship Quality Scale. Each child was asked to indicate his or her one best friend and rate how accurately a sentence describe done of their best friends on the scale. The results revealed that the friendship network and friendship quality significantly moderated the relationships between mutual antipathy and social withdrawal, and peer victimization. The magnitude of the association between mutual antipathy and social withdrawal was not significant for large friendship networks and high quality friendships. Although mutual antipathy was significantly associated with peer victimization, the association was stronger at lower levels than at higher levels of the friendship network and quality. However, there was no moderating effect of the friendship network and quality on the association between mutual antipathy and aggression. A large friendship network and high quality friendship could be protective factors among those who have mutual antipathy in peer groups.
