Multi-way relay networks (MWRNs) allow multiple users to exchange information with each other through a single relay terminal. MWRNs are often incorporated with capacity achieving lattice codes to enable the benefits of high-rate signal constellations to be extracted. In this paper, we analytically characterize the symbol error rate (SER) performance of a functional decode and forward (FDF) MWRN in the presence of channel estimation errors. Considering M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) with square constellations as an important special case of lattice codes, we obtain asymptotic expressions for the average SER for a user in FDF MWRN. The accuracy of the analysis at high signal-to-noise ratio is validated by comparison with the simulation results. The analysis shows that when a user decodes other users with better channel conditions than itself, the decoding user experiences better error performance. The analytical results allow system designers to accurately assess the non-trivial impact of channel estimation errors and the users' channel conditions on the SER performance of a FDF MWRN with M-QAM modulation.

This paper deals with an analysis of multipath which affect a transmission performance in underwater acoustic channel. Underwater acoustic channel with multipath structure is introduced to mathematical modelling for a basin environment. In this paper, SMR(Signal to Multipath Ratio) which is defined as a parameter of multipath's effect is presented as a mathematical equation, and the equation of SMR is simulated by MATLAB program. Furthermore, this paper is also dealt with an implementation of modulation and demodulation system for acoustic transmission. Acoustic Transmission is limited by frequency bandwidth, so $\pi/4 QPSK$(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) methods which is very useful at frequency ]imitation and FM(Frequency Modulation) are used at acoustic communication system. This implemented hybrid modulation/demodulation system is used as an analog board of image transmission system. In this system, adaptive equalization for reducing the multipath effect and baseline JPEG used for an image compressing are also stated.

This paper presents a $0.13{\mu}m$ CMOS 3-level envelope delta-sigma modulation (EDSM) RF signal generator, which synthesizes a 2.6 GHz-centered fully symmetrical 3-level EDSM signal for high-efficiency power amplifier architectures. It consists of an I-Q phase modulator, a Class B wideband buffer, an up-conversion mixer, a D2S, and a Class AB wideband drive amplifier. To preserve fast phase transition in the 3-state envelope level, the wideband buffer has an RLC load and the driver amplifier uses a second-order BPF as its load to provide enough bandwidth. To achieve an accurate 3-state envelope level in the up-mixer output, the LO bias level is optimized. The I-Q phase modulator adopts a modified quadrature passive mixer topology and mitigates the I-Q crosstalk problem using a 50% duty cycle in LO clocks. The fabricated chip provides an average output power of -1.5 dBm and an error vector magnitude (EVM) of 3.89% for 3GPP LTE 64 QAM input signals with a channel bandwidth of 10/20 MHz, as well as consuming 60 mW for both channels from a 1.2 V/2.5 V supply voltage.

Pilot symbol aided modulation (PSAM) using the conventional sinc interpolation (CSI) achieves nearly the same BER performance as Caver' optimal Wiener interpolation but with much less complexity. The CSI, however, has to use a non-rectangular window function that is applied to the sinc function to smooth out the abrupt truncation of rectangular window. In this paper, we propose the modified sinc interpolation (MSI). With the weighting factor the MSI scheme with no window has almost the same BER performance as the CSI scheme using window, In addition, if we use the MSI with a window its BER performance gets close to that of the theoretical one. We assume the multicarrier QAM system and an optimal frame structure for performance evaluation.

We have numerically implemented a receiver side all-optical signal processing method, i.e. optical backward propagation (OBP), by dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) and non-linear compensator (NLC) devised by effective negative Kerr non-linear coefficient using two highly non-linear fibers (HNLFs). The method is implemented for the post-processing of fiber transmission impairments, i.e. chromatic dispersion (CD) and non-linearities (NL). The OBP module is evaluated for dual-polarization (DP) m-ary (m=4,16,32,64,256) quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) in 112 Gbit/s coherent transmission over 1200 km standard single mode fiber (SMF). We have also investigated an intensity limited optical backward propagation module (IL-OBP) by using a self-phase modulation-based optical limiter with an appropriate pre-chirping to compensate for the intensity fluctuations in the transmission link. Our results show that in highly non-linear sensitive 256QAM transmission, we have observed a 66% increase in the transmission distance by implementing IL-OBP as compared to conventional OBP.
Multipath makes clear message transfer difficult in the underwater communication. To solve this problem, we propose a new method producing proper MFSP (Modulation Frequency Shift Period) which could be obtained by calculating time delay caused by different path from a transmitter to a receiver. At the transmitter end, messages were divided according to the size of the MFSP and transmitted accordingly alternating Frequency. At the receiver end, the received messages were demodulated in order to recover the original message by the adaptive BISMO algorithm which is constructed at the algorithm design stage. Adaptive MFSP and estimated BER (Bit Error Rate) were calculated through simulation test.

A Wireless Access for Vehicular Environment (WAVE) system based on Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is made for vehicle to vehicle wireless communications. The physical layer standard of the WAVE system is very similar to that of the IEEE802.11a wireless local area network (WLAN). Therefore, the performance of the WAVE system is degraded by continual channel variation in the WAVE multipath fading channels after starting initial channel estimation. In this paper, we research the performance improvement of equalization in 64 Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) transmission in WAVE environment. The proposed algorithms use the training sequence and the midamble sequence which is used for fast channel variation such as WAVE environments. Additionally, various interpolation methods are also used for the channel tracking.

Many researches on the multi-level QAM(Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) which is known to be a promising digital data transmission method for efficient use of channel bandwidth have been carried on, and their applications to various real fields are now being in progress. However, in the band-limited communication systems, each transmitted symbols is distorted by the ISI(Intersymbol Interference) and the phase error. Therefore, an equalizer and a carrier recovery must be taken into considerations to attenuate the effects of these distortions in the receiver. This paper presents an effective receiver structures that is applicable to the multi-level QAM. The proposed receiver system is consisted of an equalizer with Godard’s blind algorithm and a carrier recovery circuit. The phase error is estimated with a $\theta$-matching algorithm and is used in the carrier recovery to recover the correct phase. The simulation results are included to evaluate performance of the proposed receiver system for the various channel models.

The advantages of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) are high spectral efficiency, resiliency to RF interference, and lower multi-path distortion. To further utilize vast channel capacity of the multiuser OFDM, one has to find the efficient adaptive subchannel and bit allocation among users. In this paper, we compare the performance of the linear programming dual of the 0-1 integer programming formulation with the existing convex optimization approach for the optimal subchannel and bit allocation problem of the multiuser OFDM. Utilizing tight lower bound provided by the LP dual formulation, we develop a primal heurisitc algorithm based on the LP dual solution. The performance of the primal heuristic is compared with MAO, ESA heuristic solutions, and integer programming solution on MATLAB simulation on a system employing M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (MQAM) assuming a frequency-selective channel consisting of three independent Rayleigh multi-paths.
